Hilton Head Island, SC

There has been much debate in my family about Eric and I getting married in Mexico. So, Eric and I have decided to check out another location to make peace in the family! smile124.gif

We are contemplating getting married in Hilton Head Island, SC. I would love to rent a big beach home for the wedding party and have the wedding right outside the house on the beach. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on homes, vendors. etc. for a beach wedding in HHI? Anything and everything would be extremly helpful at this point! Thanks!

I haven't been to hilton head, but I've been to kiawha island, SC. I think they are similar. It's beautiful! The beach is so nice & we saw dolphins swimming so close to the shore. There are bike/ walking trails all over. It's such a peaceful place.

At one point I looked into doing something like this. I was looking at the outer banks, so it might be different. You can't rent just any house. It has to be one that is approve for weddings. Houses have occupancy limits. I think a lot of it has to do with if the septic systems is set up to accomidate a lot of guests.

I think it sounds like fun. Guests could rent houses or condos to stay in. There are rental agencies that make that really easy in places like hilton head. When we stay at Kiawha, there is one number to call to rent a place anywhere on the island. It's so easy.

I have photographed lots of Hilton Head weddings. Renting a beach home is a great way to go! Sea Pines is a popular place to do so. Another cool place is Daufuskie Island which is just off the coast of Hilton Head- you take a ferry over there.

Here is an old Daufuskie slideshow:

I'll see if I can dig up some HHI slideshows when I get a chance.

Good luck!

be careful about where you pick because june is beach week for all the high school kids on the east coast. As soon as they get out of school they head down to the carolina's for beach week, 20 kids per house and from what their parents tell me its not tame whatsoever (sorry high school teacher-I know too much about my seniors lives)

oh and also, the summer months are the most expensive in coastal carolina, late September/early October is really pretty.

And as far as I have seen most back up to public beaches so in the summer time you could imagine how many "guests" you would have.

I think this is a great alternative but maybe not in June.

Ohhh! Good info to know! I never thought about that. I go to HHI every year with my family and we usually stay in the South Forest Beach area or Sea Pines, so we rarely have to deal with the party crowd. But, we have never rented a home, so this is info I will keep in the back of my mind as I am looking for locations. Do you know what area most of the party crowd tends to go to? I want my wedding to be a relaxing experience!

As I have been researching, I have noticed that the prices sky rocket the second week of June. I am a school teacher, too! My other two sisters are also in the school system. So, to try to schedule our wedding to match everyone's breaks is really hard! So, the summer months work out the best for scheduling, but not for budget and weather! Ha!

Thanks for your help! If you have any other great suggestions, I would love to hear them!

Maybe you could check with the chamber about when the kids are there to party. I have never heard of that - at Myrtle Beach definitely - but not Hilton Head. Not saying it doesn't exist - I'm sure it probably does. Anyway...if you have any trouble finding out - send me a message. I could ask former clients for you.
