Warning to All Brides Shipping Favors to Cabo or Mexico....

Hi ladies,

My TA just got back from a site visit at Dreams Cabo and she came back with some info that I would have never thought of.

Yesica told her that when shipping favors, center pieces, etc. to the hotel a month before the wedding, to make sure that nothing is "Made In China" because it will be confiscated and not allowed in the Country. They search these incoming boxes. She said a bride shipped so many cute trinkets that were Made In China and she never got to use any of it because it was not allowed.

So one more thing to add to the list to be worried about. How frustrating!!!

I've read on here that most of the time you are ok in customs Morgan. It's helpful to have a receipt to show amount of purchase.

 

I could be wrong but I think there are different standards for shipping them vs. bringing them through yourself.

From my research, they (Mexico) are concerned about "dumping" of chinese products in Mexico. I took (with me...not shipped) a lot of made in china items with me and didn't have a problem through customs, but I did take off all the tags just to be sure. They might be more stringent when shipping items down, because they won't know if you planning to dump them, but really why would someone ship a bunch of stuff to Mexico to dump it? crazy custom rules.

Thank you for letting us know. I'm taking off all of the tags, since almost everything is now mad in China... yikes! I think it's awful.

Hey there!

 

Just so you know, Mexico will not really 'confiscate' shipped items that are made in China, however they WILL detain your package in mainland Mexico and will require a compensatory tax of 300% - 500% of the estimated cost of the Chinese items before releasing the package ... It's important to note that they not you, will be the ones assessing the value of the items/shipment, so you can only imagine the figures they come back with!!

 

If you must ship anything to Cabo, do NOT use a regular courier service such as DHL or FedEx, consider using a broker or an Import/Export company if your shipment is large (convention quantities for example).

 

If you are only bringing items for your welcome bags or such, consider boxing them and checking them as extra luggage. If you are not bringing too many items but they are still too many for you to carry in your bags, ask your family to share the load .. literally!

I should also add that it's unlikely that you'll have a problem bringing items with you through customs... Customs officials are used to seeing wedding groups, so should it become an issue, just let them know you are getting married here. That should take care of it.
