Summer in The Caribbean

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I am truly interested in why the summer months of July through early September are not considered to be hot months for travel and DW's. My personal experience has been great weather, less crowded and less humidity (I am from the North East). Also, this is when most people take their vacations. So please explain. Thanks Corinne

I'm thinking a little something called hurricane season. A major catastrophe doesn't always happen, but when planning an important event like a wedding or big vacation the potential for a storm can be a deterrent and not worth the risk.

Do you not get many guests at your villa during that time of year?

Because people are afraid of the possibility of 130MPH wind

Than the desert yes. Less humidity than the Caribbean in the spring? No way.

But, I am a fan of traveling in June or early July and have even gone in October. We even had our wedding on July 4th which is technically Hurricane season in Mexico. I never would have agreed to doing our wedding even a month later. I am just too paranoid.

Thank you all for your thoughts and comments. It seems that many of my guests and now this forum, can really give me more insight into the world of travel and its established patterns.

Last August and September I had many bookings. And I too thought, I would never book in August and September because of the potential threat of Hurricanes. Which never did happen. And the biggest storm last year in the Caribbean was Olga and it did not happen until December.

I guess you have to weigh the differences. For just a quick trip to the Caribbean that can be cancelled and refunded with travel insurance, it may make sense to take advantage of the special rates. But a DW...all the planning...As one of you put it...you can not take the chance. Thanks again!
