Favourite Cookbooks

Recommended Posts

I'm a huge cookbook junkie...I'm always on the lookout for new ones.

What are some of your favourites?

Mine have to be;

- The Silver Palate Cookbook - it's my go-to book for dinner parties or when I'm really stuck for something new

- Eat, Shrink & Be Merry, Looneyspoons & Crazy Plates - these books are freaking amazing - the recipes are so delicious and easy and super healthy!

- The Joy of Cooking - EVERYONE should have a copy of this...even non-cooks because when you need to know how to do something fast it's guaranteed to be in there! Whenever I'm having a food crisis it's the first place I go :P

I agree Melissa, everyone should have the Joy of Cooking! I use it all the time. I also love the Joy of Baking.

Martha Stewart Hors D'oeuvres is a good one too.

The new Betty Crocker cookbook is good.

My favorites for home cooking are the church/junior league/school cookbooks. I have one from my grandmothers church that is seriously 60+ years old!

I gotta say.... my favorites are actually the ones I inherited from my mom and grandmother---- they're the local cookbooks from the community I grew up in. It's so cool to see the family names I grew up with from 1-2 generations back.

If I had to pick a favorite that is more widely distributed, I can't even remember the actual name of it---- but it's an Italian cookbook.

I love Ina Garten. I've made many of her recipes, and they are all really delicious. Her Barefoot Contessa cookbooks are one of my favorites...i have all of them. Not only great recipes, but beautiful pictures that make your mouth drool. I love her style...so clean, so fresh, so classic.

I dragged John with me to her book signing. BTW, I also met Chef Morimoto in New York!!!

I don't think so- that name doesn't ring a bell.... it's a black cover book that I picked up at a book fair at work back in 98.... the binder is destroyed and it's completely falling apart because I've used it so much and it's fallen down from the shelves so often when I try to pull it down.... has some really great, simple Italian dishes in it....
