Alternatives to Bouquet/Garter Toss

Recommended Posts

I like the "dance of all ages" idea too. I think we only have like 2-3 single girls so I would feel so bad for them!!! I think you are all right though, we have the cake cutting and first dance , father-daughter dance, etc. And everyone will be drinking so thats not something all that memorable!

I agree with Rachel and Gionne also, I alwasy HATED the bouquet toss. I'd either hide in the bathroom or go smoke a cig while that was happening, cuz it was so embarrassing. I know some girls that would practically throw down thought o catch it. So I guess it's all a preference.

We are just not going to do it, I don't think we will do anything in it's place. Although one thing my mom mentioned to do at my AHR (since we have about 300 people there), was to have them announce the oldest woman from my family and the oldest man from Matt's family need to meet on the dance floor and dance. It wouldn't be announced like that, but use their names. Or something similar, to get hte families interacting. Since our families are both so large, it's going to be hard enough to talk to everyone in their own family let alone to meet the other side of the fam, so she was trying to think of a way to kinda force it. I don't really like the idea, but thought I could still play around with it for a bit.

I like the alternative ideas. We will only have 3 single guys at the DW (65 year old bachelor friend and my two nephews 3 and 5 years old). I think about a half dozen single girls, all friends of mine. I think we are still going to do it (I have 2 garters, and Army one and a blue one from my Mom) but likely just let me little nephews duke it out.

We're not doing a bouquet or garter toss because I hate both of those traditions and we will only have 2 single people coming any way. Also, we only have the private room for dancing for 2 hours so it will be more of a waste of time than anything. The pinata idea that someone else mentioned sounds fun if you really want to do something else.

I don't think I'm doing the bouquet/garter toss either. I know I dont want too, and I'm not sure how Joe feels. he will most likely want to do it cuz him and his friends are freaks and love to act lke maniacs. So we will see. Like Carly said, I'm one of those girls who run to the laides room most of the time when that happens, haahaa

As far as replacing it with something, I think I'd rather save that time for dancing. I was thinking that I def wanted the photographer to take a group pic with me in the middle of all of my girls standing around me, and the same idea for joe and his friends. So maybe I can use the hour I dont use for the tossing for the group pic thing?? Getting everyone together for that might take an hour, haha I duno.

I don't tend to like the traditional wedding things, but for some reason I've always enjoyed the bouquet toss. I'm always up there on the front row in my guarding stance. I was in a wedding in janauary & went up there. My friends said I don't get to because I'm engaged. I don't really know the rules, but I knew it was my last chance to catch it so I went up there.

I won't be doing it at my wedding though. Same reasons. I won't really have many single guests. plus I want to keep my bouquet in my room the rest of the trip.

Thats so good to hear! My original quote has the GM boutonnieres but I think FI doesn't want to wear one so I might just have 1 for dad and a corsage for mom. I had also had the flowers for the gazebo on there but I think I'm going fresh with that so I don't have to lug even more stuff down!

Do you know how much extra the jewls are? Do you mind taking some pics once they arrive and sending them to me?

Thanks!
