At home civil ceremony

Recommended Posts

We are doing the legal ceremony at home since we don't want to take a blood test in Mexico and wanted to have more control over our ceremony in Mexico. I was worried getting married before would take away from it. The only way to downplay it would have been to get married in jeans and sign the papers in somewhere like a coffee shop. But just could not wrap my head around that. Even though our real marriage is in Mexico, the legal aspect does mean something to me.

So we are getting married the next day we return at city hall with a few close friends and my parents. Then we are going out to dinner afterwards. The great thing about it is I get to wear another dress :)

We are getting married right before we leave... nothing big just the JP thing. We just didn't want to have four of our honeymoon days ahead of the wedding. This way we can have most of the days after the wedding! And the bloodtests scared me a little too lol

I hate needles so we decided against doing it legally in Mexico. We will probably go to the courthouse right before we go to Mexico. I still feel like the wedding in Mexico will be our "real" wedding. The other is just the legal stuff. I do feel like I may be more relaxed knowing the legal stuff is out of the way before the wedding and once the mexico ceremony is over then we are married, nothing left to take care of.

We are actually waiting until we get back from Mexico to do the legal wedding. We are both Catholic and having a church ceremony in Mexico followed by a sand ceremony at the resort. We really only care about the religious ceremony so that is the day that will matter. We will probably just run down to the courthouse on a lunch break when we get back to do the legal stuff.

We decided to so we had one less thing to stress about. Plus my FI will eventually start the processing of becoming a US and we don't want to add any more complicating factors. Our Jamacain wedding will always be our wedding though! (however - now we will have an extra day each year to celebrate the 2 of us)

We are doing it w/ a notary a few days prior to leaving for DW. No vows, no hoopla, just our signatures -- saving the rest for what we want to say to each other in front of family and friends -- which will serve as our 'real' wedding day in our head and heart. We are not telling anyone about the civil ceremony.

We aren't positive yet but we think we are going to get married when we get back. We dont want to take away from the excitement beforehand but yet we dont want the hassle. i hadn't even considered this before BDW but after reading all the pros and cons we think we may do this.

I think we're leaning on doing it after the destination wedding. Part of me wants to do it before so I can come back and in the couple of days I took off after the wedding, go and get my new license and all the paperwork. But I don't want to do any vows before the ones in Mexico, I want them to feel like the real ones. So I figured if we waited til after, it really will seems like just paperwork.

Plus its one less thing I need to do in the days leading up.
