Kendra that is awesome! I am laughing to hard right now! I supposed the hyphenation debate is a bit of a moot point for you then? LOL!

My mother always jokes about how funny it was that she was attached to her maiden name and insisted on giving it to both me and my sister as a second middle name -- her maiden name is Smith! It totally could have happened to her too!

The DMV incident got me thinking...What salutation will everyone be using after they're married? Regardless of whether you change your name or not.
Mrs. until I'm Dr.

I wish there was a salutation for having a masters. Master Morgan Lastname. Mst. for short.

Ha ha ha, Master is the proper salutation for an unmarried boy. It's the male equivalent of Miss. How come it's so rare to hear Master used but we're still dealing with Miss? You should've asked the DMV chick that!

I agree about having a special title for having a Masters degree though. It'd be nice to get a little recognition!

Bachelor is an unmarried guy too. What's up with that?

I second that wish! I worked hard for my masters, yet theres no overt way for people to know i'm a master at my craft haha

actually morgan, my FI always wanted to be called Dr. (not actually be a medical one, just for people to call him that, or for him to get his PhD in something so people would call him Dr.) so 2 christmases ago when his family went on a cruise, and they asked for his name or whatever to put on his room key/card, he put "Dr. ____" so that the whole cruise the staff was calling him Dr! He got such a kick out of it that he kept the card. and boy was he pissed when i explained to him that publications wont print Dr. next to your name unless you are a real medical doctor -- phds DONT count as a Dr. salutation.

but back to topic,
i got really sad the other day because i realized that when i legally change my name i have to surrender my old passport and get a new one with my married name (plus pay the fee for a new one, ugh!) sad.gif i have lots of cool stamps in there from when i studied abroad and i feel like it contains a record of my life's journeys. also, it will have the passport stamp from our wedding trip.... maybe ill just tell them i lost my passport and need a new one, and i can keep the old one!

i am changing my name legally but not professionally. i am already established in my career with my maiden name, and in my business, your name is your brand. if people already trust your brand, and then you switch your brand name, you have to rebuild your reputation and trust with clients just as you would if you were a marketer's product. too many people in my industry know who i am since im in the public eye, so changing my name would hurt my credibility.
