Natasha I am so glad you started this thread b/c I was going to start one today asking people if money wasn't an issue would they still have had a DW. But now that you started this thread I can see that most of you were so happy with your decision. And of course I have a question after the long line of questions get answered. For those of you that had DJs at the reception: Did the DJ have up to date music or was it very limited in selection? I have fears of hearing "cotton eye joe" or "macarena" at my wedding.

The married gals will no more than me, but I'm pretty sure you can bring your own music to ensure that this doesnt happen.

TammyM - Our guitar player was a huge hit @ $250/hour. Let me know if you want his info? I guess I personally just do not associate the flute with a beach wedding. Call me crazy?

 

Christine - We made a last minute decision to get a videographer and I am now glad about that. I think we will love watching it years down the road. I can't think of anything else I wished I had...is that crazy? I probably could have done without cake, honestly. And like I said above, we didn't do favors, which made life a lot more simple. Ditto on the seating chart, but I think that totally depends on your guests.

 

Glenda - Our DJ mostly played what we asked him, but I would suggest the following. Ask one of your friends to be the point person for the DJ that night. Give her the list of requests and the DO NOT PLAY songs (also give the list to the DJ himself) and have her be the person who keeps the DJ on the right track. Most DJs will follow your wishes but that way you have a backup plan and don't have to worry about it yourself!

Most of the time I just "lurk" around because it's more specific questions like... I'm getting married at X and looking for Y....

Before we went to Cabo, I was stressed, worried and overall unsure if it was going to be worth it. My siblings live in different cities and it was a great way to have us all together... I probably don't have to tell you how happy my parents were to have us all together! Wow, this is all a matter of taste. The wedding ceremony will probably only be 30 mins (or less) so keep that in mind. If you are having a cocktail hour, then I recommend having any of the above since they will have to be hired for at least one hour. If not, then just do the IPod. We had a classical trio during the ceremony and it was beautiful. I highly recommend it!!

I had programs, I felt it was totally unecessary.

I did not have menus, favors, bouquet/garter toss, something blue... am I missing any other tradition?

We did a guestbook, but it was actually a Polaroid guestbook.

We still look through it, totally recommend it if you are going to have a guestbook.

We had DJ Mijares at our reception and he did a great job. Several of us posted our music list that we gave to the DJs http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t985. He followed our list and added several similar songs. No macarena, no Cotton eye joe... even though we did have the Cotton Eye Joe TWICE at the Austin reception... yes, that's right, not a typo.... TWICE!!!

we had a quasi destination wedding. we rented an estate in palm springs for 5 days and had everything there. friday night BD/welcome party - it was my husbands BD. saturday wedding. sunday pool party. we had 60 guests. if money were not object yes i still would have had the DW only i would have had it here - Villa Hurmuses ≈ Mykonos ≈ Home

we actually thought about going to greece and getting married at this house. only we know we would have had about 4 guests instead of 60 and i would have had to have a party when i returned anyway. so yes but here in greece and i could have paid everyones way!!!

Also, do most people have a cocktail hour or do we just skip it and start the reception?

For all the guests that were unable to attend did you send them anything after the wedding? Picture? Announcement card? Anything?

i really LOVED having the mariachi band. but i had a bigger wedding. They played before the ceremony, as i walked down the aisle and for the cocktail hour. the kids loved it and were dancing. it was really cute.

i did not do prgrams, BUT did print out menus. i found this palce that printed them in 5 days notice. i also did table numbers, and seating cards all with a shell design

the dj's have a pretty extensive list of music. if you have very specific requests, you may want to burn them on adisk or have them on your IPOD and let the dj know you will do that

i loved having a cocktail hour because we were able to leave to have our pictures taken w/o feeling like we were abandoning out guests.

we sent links to the video juan carlos made us...i also made a colage for fun and sent them to coworkers, etc.
