sounds like things are getting better down there, thankfully!

Congratulations SMB&CRZ for booking!

We are planning to book there as well (June 2010) but are waiting to hear from Perla about our requested date and quote for the cost. I know things are a little crazy down there and assume it will take a week or so to hear back from her. How long would any of you wait before emailing her again? I have read that a few of you say she does take some time, especially when the wedding is so far out.

Hi Rachelle - Just to be sure you get the date you want, I would stay on top of her. When I was going through the booking and quote process with Perla, she was pretty slow to respond. I was told to expect 2 or 3 days response time, but at times it would take up to 2 weeks to get an answer. Which was especially frustrating once we were ready to book, but just had some minor questions. Our TA was also frustrated with her and sent her a few "encouraging" emails in addition to ours. But around the same time, I found this forum and read all about what a great job she does in the end. And the closer to your wedding the more responsive she is. I definitely hope that's the case for me too! Good luck!

Lauren I am so sorry to hear this!! My travel agent called me last night in regards to some of the other brides complaints and asked if I wanted to switch resorts. After talking to my FI we decided to stay at the Paradisus. She did say that she is attending a conference with the Paradisus's parent company later this week and will try to find out as much information as possible from corporate and then let me know.

I'll be sure to pass the information along to the other brides!!

Hey Ladies, I just wanted to throw out another perspective on things that may be closed at the resort. This is a chance you take at any time of the year, swine flu or no swine flu. I doubt they could ever 100% guarantee that everything at the resort will be open every day of your stay. It all depends on occupancy and this hasn't changed due to any type of flu. When we were there in early January there were not many people there the first week of our trip. Not all of the restaurants were open each night and Perla could not know in advance if there would be a show the night of our welcome dinner or not. It was truly fine. You will always find something to do. You will be with your family and best friends in a beautiful setting, the fact that shows may be cancelled will not effect your trip. You'll be too busy having a great time to notice and your guests will be so happy to be with you, they will not notice either. And, I feel that the resort will do everything they can to make sure you are happy. Look at what they ended up doing for Yamille (hope you don't mind me throwing in the example). While they couldn't open all of the restaurants and put on a show for her, they did try to accomodate and make up for it in their own way.

Relax and you will have a fabulous time at Paradisus!

I understand your frustration! I didn't know about all the restaurant closings until we arrived, so there wasn't much we could do. It was a really disappointing b/c I had envisioned devouring plates upon plates of sushi at the Japanese restaurant. While I can't say our guests weren't equally disappointed, but we all rolled with it knowing swine flu caused low occupancy rates. However, everyone still had a blast -- it's not hard to with the sun, beach and unlimited drinks!

We spent most of our evenings having long dinners and catching up. Then we attended whatever entertainment was provided, hung out in the lobby, or had a party in our room (yay, room service).

Perhaps you can negotiate. Upgraded rooms for the guests so people can at least chill in their hot tub on the balcony since no entertainment is provided in the evening? Or maybe a discounted rate for car/shuttle into the city at night? Generous discounts on massages?

Our experience...

Friday - Arrived at Paradisus. Very, very few guests. The ones who were there We lunch at the terrace and dinner at the Carribean Marketplace. The entertainment that night was karaoke in the lobby. There were a handful of people there singing.

Saturday - A ton of people checked-in and the resort got much busier. Dinner at Caribe, but they were serving from the Reef Grill menu. The entertainment was fun. There was a live band and a ton of guests.

Sunday - Carribean Marketplace and Reef Grill menu for dinner. It was a litte quieter today. I don't remember if there was entertainment.

Monday - Wedding day. We pretty much had the resort to ourselves!

Lauren I'm sure everything will be wonderful.

I don't know if this helps at all but FI and I really thought about WHY we chose the Paradisus to begin with. The resteraunts and shows to us were just an added bonus. We were really psyched about the one wedding a day and how amazing the resort looked and just the atmosphere that we feel it will provide. Like the other girls have said you will be so busy enjoying your moment that the resteraunts will probably end up being just a small aspect of your experience. I am convinced that everything will be spectacular regardless.

I emailed her on June 2nd to reserve my day and she only just responded today. I ended up calling on Thursday, as I am very impatient. The first time I called I got voice mail, the 2nd time I got through and she sent me the info to reserve the day right away.
