Mexico hopping - Mazatlan to Cabo?

Recommended Posts

Hello Cabo ladies - I have jumped here for a moment, taking a break in my Mazatlan wedding research... because all you beautiful Cabo brides have the most wonderful pictures and plans and are a WEALTH of information. I have to say Juan Carlos' pic alone are enough to want me to jump over to Cabo! My fiance and I talked on the phone last night at 3:30am as he tried to calm me down from my first mini-meltdown in wedding planning and we thought we would also do some research in having our wedding at the Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas or maybe even the Riu Palace Mayan Riviera.

My first question is in regards to Catholic ceremonies - how difficult is this to plan/organize in Cabo? Is this something that Riu palace there deals with regularly? To have ceremony in a church, then reception at the resort?

Second question - how is weather in Cabo at the end of April?

Third question - Any info on the quality of the food there and well, everything you can tell me would be fantastic. Sorrry, don't mean to make you repeat what you've probably already exhausted in other forums!!

Thanks for your help and enthusiasm. This forum has been great!!

My first question is in regards to Catholic ceremonies - how difficult is this to plan/organize in Cabo? Is this something that Riu palace there deals with regularly? To have ceremony in a church, then reception at the resort?there is a beautiful church in san jose, i think edyta is getting married there and MariaELM got married there and we have pics...bu it is far from riu so it will cost alot of $$ to transport them back to riu for the reception. riu has some beautiful terraces/gazebos to get married so if you are not fully committed to a church wedding that might be an option for you

Second question - how is weather in Cabo at the end of April? FANTASTIC! high 80-low 90's in day...cooler at night but not cold.

Third question - Any info on the quality of the food there and well, everything you can tell me would be fantastic. Sorrry, don't mean to make you repeat what you've probably already exhausted in other forums!! this is so subjective. sarah (aqharider) sayed and ate at riu but got sick..i think RM has better food than cabo...more lobster, etc. just my opnion

Thanks for your help and enthusiasm. This forum has been great!!

hope this helps

The Sheraton in Cabo has a really pretty church on site. It's not huge, but it would make for a BEAUTIFUL wedding. Also, the food there is great and the restaurant by the water would make for a beuatiful site for a reception. I believe TammyM is having her dinner reception there.

The sheraton Church is really pretty, can probably hold (I'd guess) at least 80 people, but I didn't really check into it. There are a few places ocean front to have your dinner there. The good thing about all this is you don't have to stay at that resort if you don't want to. If you want to do an AI resort just transport your guests there. I fell in love with the Sheraton the second I stepped foot on their grounds.

Hey Salsa_bride (love the name!),

I'll try to help you out the best I can so feel free to pm me anytime....honestly anytime because this work thing really sucks - the more distractions the better!

First off, don't stress - this planning stuff is 'supposed' to be fun. Much easier said than done! As for the catholic/church ceremony, I can't really help you out. As host mentioned, MariaElm will be a much bigger help to you on this. We have chosen to get married at the gazebo because I simply love them and in Cabo I believe there is still a view of the beach, ocean, and rock structures in the background.

As pp mentioned, weather in Cabo is great in April and pretty much all year long. I've read that there are only 10 rainy days per year (mostly sept and oct). We are getting married in November so the weather will be a little cooler during the day (80's) but still plenty hot enough for me!

I have heard many conflicting reviews about the food at the RIU. The good thing is that there are lots of options for lunches and dinners based on the many different restaurants, buffets, and sidebars they have there. I don't think the food is overly fantastic but there is supposedly lots of variety and its pretty decent from most reviews. I have heard of some people getting sick but whether its from the food or water or what I have no idea. I think you have to just be careful and watch what you are taking in as you likely do anywhere in Mexico.

I have never been to Cabo or the RIU and won't be there until I go for my wedding but from the reviews I have had from my travel agent and others that have actually been there, it's gorgeous and a great resort.

The wedding coordinators have been known to be a little slow in responding but I think everything works out once you are actually there.

This is all hearsay to me, and after this novel I don't think I've really helped you out at all! Sorry! Best of luck to you and please post if you have any other questions I may be able to help with.

TammyM - I took a look at some pics at the Sheraton, and you're absolutely right, the place looks amazing - I love how the church looks. Do you happen to have any more pics I can look at of the church and the various areas where we can have a reception? Our main goal is PRIVACY during the ceremony and reception - no topless sunbathers walking by during the vows or any background scenery of people just lounging about. We want to have a "non-resort" atmosphere, if you know what I mean? Like the place is all our own. Am I asking for too much? Maybe some of you can recommend resorts that can provide this?
