Awh!! You girls are sweet!! hug2.gif

I confess that I work has gotten really busy & has taken away from my quality BDW time! I've just basically been checking in on my subscribed threads (mostly TV related!) - I'm more of a BDW creeper than an active member!! I also find it hard to get into new topics, etc, with the new people that I don't know. I am partial to my early '09 brides - sorry if that's mean blush2.gif

I also confess that I feel really guilty about not writing a planning thread OR a review since I was so active on the forum & I hounded others for theirs! Sorry!!!

I am stressed about my family and don't know what to do! Some may be able to relate to the carzy family dynamics.

I want my wedding to be perfect but my biggest problem is who will walk me down the aisle... my real father or step? Here is the short version background: Real father essentially abandoned us as yung kids and was an alcholic. Has cleaned up great but relationship is strained. he has a good heart he is just a disaster life wise (harsh, sorry). Step father - not very close, favors his real daughter unbelievably and i suspect secretly hates my FI....

With all of this I am the one worried about hurting feelings and so on when I know it is my day but I can't help thinking about it! Any advice? I am seriously freaking out about it and have been worried about for the better part of 10 yaers when I have imagined getting married!

Thanks everyone, felt good to get that out!

akkelly, i'm thinking neither one. in a situation where you have both a father and a stepfather, i think people would understand. if you really want someone to walk you down the aisle, how about your mother? sounds like she's been one of the few "constants" in your life, KWIM? or do you have any other people who are close to you (an uncle, cousin, brother, best male friend?) whom you didn't include in your wedding party? it could be a nice way to honor them.

there are many threads on this dilemma too, if you want advice from people in similar situations. bottom line is you have to do what will make you feel most comfortable, and that means avoiding drama and following your heart.

That's true...but I still should have done something!! I think most of it is that I am a terrible writer...I have a really hard job putting things into words.

Well...I personally was going to have both walk me. But then my step-father passed about almost 2 years before we got married. My situation is a little different though - my step-father was like a dad to me, whereas my father was more a sperm donor! My father & I have a relationship, but I think it's more out of obligation than out of anything. We talk at special occasions & when I go back home...that's about it. He did however walk me down the aisle...with my mom on my other side.
I think it's your choice. If I was in your shoes I don't think I'd have your step father walk you since it doesn't seem like you have much of a bond with him...and if you don't want your real father to do it, then you can always walk yourself. Or have your mom do it if she has been the constant in your life. There are unlimited possibilities when it comes to this...just do what you feel is best for you! Good Luck!!
