Yazzy...your wedding was beautiful!! Thank you for adding the Carribbean Emotion video....it really gave me a good visual of the terrace...I have such a tiny wedding party so I'm super excited. I am worried about the salon now...because I really wanted my hair pressed out by the ladies...but that just at home will take 3 hours...so that means I would have to be there by 1 for a 6pm wedding. Do you have pics of your wedding..and was the terrace properly lit in the evening or do you suggest I bring more lights?

Ladies-

I finally found time to share my review. The wedding was beautiful and unforgettable. The resort is a perfect wedding destination. The wedding coordinator, Deyanira, was great to work with. She had everything under control and made sure the day was executed as we expected.

 

Pros:

• Venue - beach wedding was beautiful even without any decorations. I only had chair bows that I brought with me and fans for each guest. The chair bows were transferred to the reception (Portofino Terrace). I brought lanterns to use as centerpieces and table runners to decorate, along with Chinese lanterns. That was more than enough. During the dance party, the wedding coordinator brought out balloon streamers which added to the party ambiance.
• Rain Plan - we were lucky to have the ceremony with no rain, however, right before the main course at the reception a cloud came over us and we had a 10 minute down pour. The wedding coordinator took total control, directed us down to the first floor to finish our dinner and by the time we were done with dinner they notified us that the rain had stopped and the Terrance was ready for us to continue the party. When we got upstairs, all the tables were set up like no rain had come down. Everything was perfectly set up and we finished the party. So thankful that they had it all under control. This is why I say, they know what they are doing and this was the perfect wedding destination.
• Menu - Crab cake, sancocho, beef and lobster tail. The food was delicious. Only downfall was the amount of guests that did not each lobster tail and the beef was a little over cooked.
• Photographer/Videographer - We utilized Caribbean Emotions. They were by far, the best vendor to work with. We paid the extra $300 to have external vendors and it was worth it. Michael and Pascal were great to work with. They were patient, creative, and so kind. They captured so many great moments and delivered a great product. Highly recommend their work. • Cake/Flowers: Turned out great. I did not spend too much time on picking the cake and flower decor but it turned out beautiful.
• Service - all the staff was great.

 

Cons:

• The resort rooms were the biggest disappointment. We were initially assigned to building 5 and after looking checking out our view of a garden and fence I decided to call and request to be moved. I specifically requested building 6 which is the closest to the beach and the VIP club. The suite was much better, larger and with view of the pool. The positive was that they moved us the same night we arrived. Many of our guests had musty and very small rooms. Some requested a change and others did not. Overall, I think the rooms do not match the quality of the resort amenities.
• Food was good in all restaurants, however, the servings are very small. You can always ask for an extra entree.
• The beach has a ton of seaweed so its not great for swimming/walking in it. However, the scenery is great and chairs/beach beds are great for relaxing.
• Spa Beauty Salon - The ladies that work their did not seem very confident with the requests we made for our hair. Carmen was very rude and hard to work with. The pins in our hairdos were falling out within half an hour of getting our hair done. I loved how my hair turned out, however, the falling hair pins was pretty annoying. The day following the wedding I shared my concern one of the managers at the spa. They were very surprised and gave my sister a complimentary message to make up for her bad experience with hair dresser Carmen. My number one advise -- GET YOUR HAIR APPOINTMENTS SET UP FOR AT LEAST 4 HOURS IN ADVANCE. My appointment was for 1:30 with only and up-do to be done, didn't even get my hair washed and I did not leave the salon until 3 PM with the ceremony starting at 4 PM. The ladies at the salon are VERY SLOW. On the positive, the masseuse services were excellent. Probably the best message I have had in a long time and my husband agreed.

My count is 49 so I'm ordering 55 of everything, that's it....AND I.M NOT GONNA FEEL BAD ABOUT IT. I gave everyone so much time. I sent text messages, email reminders, and made calls. My TA has called anyone several times if they ever inquired about the price so it is what it is....

I'm getting a dummy cake 2 take with me. The cake pictures r a big deal 2 me. The price is 175.00 and the real cake can b cut in the back. One of my Aunties buys the wedding cake 4 every niece do she's happy with that price cause if I was getting married here my cake would have been expensive. I love tall cakes.

I would make myself sick if I kept reading the reviews so I just wont do it. I trust my Sister/Brides so I'll wait 2 hear from y'all...

Try not to read the reviews.  I did the same thing and didn't sleep for days. 

 

Review of the Stay/wedding 

We arrived 10/3/12 and stayed till 10/13/12

 

We were there 3 days before everyone... BEST decision we could have made.  It was nice being able to relax before everyone got there.  I talked to my WC even spy-ed on a few weddings.  I kept in touch with everyone Via email and Internet. Which was nice since a few of my guest where flying American.  I had 3 couples miss a day BC of delays and not being able to make their connecting flights.  I also forgot a few things.  I emailed a few people and they were able to bring me what I needed

 

Food- I get sick very very easy....  I was worried about getting there and me feeling sick the whole trip.  Not the case with this resort.  The food is amazing!!!  Small but amazing.  So when you order you might want to order more then one.  Also room service is great.  Takes some time to get your food but really good!  

 

Rooms-We stayed in building 6.  Building 6 is the closet to the VIP club lounge.  VERY NICE.  We stayed in room 6304 which is on the 3rd floor.  Clean and big!  Since it was Oct the heat is beyond what i have ever experienced!  With that said heat raises.  Our room was a bit warmer then I would have liked.  We keep the fans going and cretins closed which helped.  We only had a one problem with the maid service.  I believe it was our 3nd night there,  were taking a nap around 4pm when they came to clean.  Which is late anyways!  I told her We would be leaving around 6:30 for dinner could she come back then?  She said no problem.  Room never was cleaned when we got back from our evening.  Other then that we had no problems!  The day of our wedding she cleaned our room first thing!!! Picked up and put away everything!  Try to request to be put in building 6!  Its close to the beach and right next to the VIP lounge!  For guest...Building 2 and 1 our the closest to the beach as well.  Most of our guest stayed in building 1 and 2.  1 is the most recent remodeled.  A few of ours room were on the corner of the building which you could see the ocean from there deck! 

 

 

Spa-  I was worried when I never heard back from the spa to confirm my hair appointment.  So the first thing I did after we arrived, I went to the spa.  They did not have mine or my bridesmaids appointments.  I was upset.  Thank God I was there 7 days before my wedding.  I made my hair for 1pm and makeup at 2pm.  The photographer was coming to take pics in my room at 4pm.  I didn't leave the spa till 3ish!!  Just enough time to eat and get my dress ready for pics!  I would recommend making your hair appointment early.  This place is the Las Vegas of weddings!  You will not be the only bride getting married on that day!  Be sure to get in so you have time to relax before zero hour.  I would also recommend to bring your own bobby pins.  I LOVED MY HAIR!  It did start to fall.   It stayed for all the pics but once I started to move around and dance.  It slowly started to fall.  Oh also I ordered a real flower for my hair for the wedding.  What I got was not what I though.  It could have been because I wanted a Calla Lilly.  It looked like something i put on for my 6th grade dance.  I was in panic mode!  Until they ladies at the spa told me I could just pick flowers from the garden out front! So my one of my brides maid and I went out and picked a few white and pink flowers came back to the spa and they pinned them in my hair.  LOOK AMAZING!!! Best part....THEY WERE FREE!

@TCruz, you looked great on the dance floor rocking the wedding dress.

@Chinanow, we had 36 guests and the Portofino Terrace was perfect for the group. We had four tables and cannot imagine having a 5th table. The dance floor was just enough for the group. Regarding the beauty salon, I would not worry about getting your hair straightened. My sister had her hair washed and straightened before they did her up-do and it did not take too long, although she has very curly hair. However, I would stay on the safe side and get it done at 1 PM even if you are in your room for a few hours before the wedding. I wish I had the time to relax in my room before the wedding, instead it was a big rush. In regard to the lighting, the terrace has enough lighting. We had a DJ and he provided dance floor lighting that gave it a good nightclub ambiance. Hi, my reception will be at the portofino terrace as well!!! This looks very nice. Did you bring all of your Chinese lanterns? Didt they charge you for hanging them? I am trying to bring all of the things myself...I have chair bows and table runners, I am just wondering if they would charge an extra fee for these things. You looked beautiful, and very happy !!! Congrats

@winslow13, I brought my own Chinese lanterns, chair bows and table runners. They only charged me $1 to hang the lanterns. Everything else was at no cost. I had 24 lanterns in two different sizes and colors. They were enough to cover the entire venue.

Hey sister brides....I have appx. 15 people coming so I was thinking about doing a long table instead of several round tables...has anyone been to a wedding that has done that? What kind of decoration do you think will travel well?
