Thinking of renting linens and bringing with me...

I don't think that I would advise doing so because if you have to be responsible for returning the linens, the last thing that you want to worry about is collecting them at the end of the night. Even if someone else is in charge, the responsibility, both physical, and financial will end up being yours.

 

We found a place locally to buy wholesale linens and brought them with us. I think that we spend around $6 per table although my memory is kind of rusty with all things wedding-related these days. Anyhow, maybe you can consider doing that? At the end of the night we negotiated with, and sold them to the hotel.

what color linens are you thinking? Perhaps it'd be cheaper to buy them on clearance from Target or something rather then renting them? And then you can donate them to a retirement home or something when you get home.

Having been married, my advice is to keep things as worry free as possible. I can guarantee that no one will notice your table linens being too short, they will be too focussed on you and the amazing place you are getting married. If you really want to bring them, don't rent them; buy them and leave them. You won't want to have to deal with gathering everthing up and repacking it.

I didn't realize how much stuff I had until I packed it (dress, OOT bags, suitcase, gifts). I am an overpacker, but just be aware of how much stuff you have. It's not fun to carry all that stuff through customs, especially if you have to do it on the way there and on the way home.

I know that Sarah (Sassygirl) purchased and brought black linens with her to the Cabo Hilton. I'd have to search for the thread, but you might be able to find it by searching on here. Either that or PM her- she still checks in every once in a while I think. I don't think they were terribly expensive- and like Natasha said, then you dont have to worry about what happens to them

yeah i am probably going to start looking for wholesale linen vendors and just buy them - maybe i will try to negotiate with the hotel to buy them from me.

 

as for customs, i am getting married in Hawaii so that doesn't apply and my MOH and mom are willing to each take an extra suitcase of whatever i need

I gotta agree with Laura. Nobody will notice, and you may even forget to critique the set-up yourself. Don't underestimate the part emotions will play that night. All of these things seem like big deals when you're sitting on your couch dreaming, but once you are actually there, marrying your true love, you could care less about the mundane details. You'll be so high on love that you couldn't care about the tables if you tried...well that's how I felt anyway.

So if you can, let it go. If not, definitely don't rent them. You don't have too many tables and you can find cheap and pretty tableclothes everywhere )

You might want to look on e-bay and see if you can buy any in the right color wholesale. I can't remember the name of the seller I used before!

 

I would suggest contacting the local rental company/hotel and see if you can sell them the linens when you are finished, especially if you will be renting other items. If you will have to bring them back with you, see if there is a company at home you can sell them to.

 

For the difference in price, I would suggest a 108" round instead of the 120". A lot of times tables can be uneven or the legs are a weird height. More often than not, I've seen linens that were too big that puddle on the floor. The 108s still give a floor length look and you never have to worry about them getting stuck on a chair leg.

i have to get a picture of the linens they have to show you, believe me - neither of you girls would let it go. it just looks really bad, like you are about to sit on plastic chairs or something. decor is really important to me - i am all about setting the mood, the atmosphere and little details but i definitely don't want to pay crazy amounts of $$$$ for table linens

thanks - these are great tips! i am going to compare the 108" to the 120" and see what i can find on sale or ebay. do you think it makes a difference to go with a heavyweight linen or regular? also - how do you know so much at this? are you a planner?

Yep, I'm a caterer/chef/event planner. Both my parents are chefs so I've been in the business my entire life!

 

The regular weight is fine, especially when you have to figure shipping. The only time I would suggest the heavy weight are if you will be using wooden tables or putting a pastel color on a dark table top.

 

If price or weight will be a big factor, have you considered using a square 85" as a colored topper? Any time you use rounds the price will nearly double. It has to do with ironing and folding...
