We just melted the wax in a pot over the stove and then took each bottle, turned it upside down and dipped it into the wax. We had to do 2 coats on each one.

Be prepared to ruin one of your pots! We actually spray painted the pot when we were done, added some wicks and turned it into a giant scented candle!
How did you dip the bottle in the wax without the sand pouring out and without the string getting into the wax? Is the bottle corked before you dip it into the wax?

Thanks!

Well first I should mention that we drilled holes in all the corks so that the rope could attach to the message. Then we corked the bottles and then dipped the bottles into the wax. The wax held the string in place. When you dip them into the wax, hold the rope down against the bottle and leave it in the wax for about five seconds.
