Oh I just remembered a couple more tips!

 

-If your lashes are naturally straight, CURL CURL CURL!! Give them a quick curl with eyelash curlers before you apply your fake lashes. This will help match the shape of the false lashes, and also gives you a guide of where to apply the lashes.

 

-Use black eyeliner along the top eyelid as close to your lashes as you can get before you put on fake lashes, this serves as a guide as where to place your fakes and also covers the little gap you may get between your fakes and real lashes!

 

-After the fakes are in place, let them dry, and you may want to add a coat of mascara or two to blend the lashes with your own.

I got lash extensions for my wedding and I absolutely LOVED them... they really worked for me and I didn't experience having my real lashes falling out with them! They lasted through swimming in the pool, snorkelling in the ocean, and for the duration of my whole vacation!! They were great, they looked real (I didn't go ridiculously long) and looked great for my pictures. Also they looked great after a swim (no mascara required). The only thing that was difficult was remembering not to rub my eyes...but not a big deal! My mom got them for the vacation and she really loved them too! It was a relaxing process to put them on, and an even more relaxing experience to take them off ( both done at a reputable salon)

OMG I wish I had seen this sooner since this is one of my favorite topics!!! I started wearing strip lashes when I was 17 years old up until 23 when I graduated from grad school and got a job. (I am 26 now) Then I got lash extensions up until recently I was going about every two weeks to get them refilled (it is a big investment but worth it to me because there is no funky strip lash falling off cause of humidity and you can shower, swim, and get ready quicker in the morning. I got compliments daily and people thought they were real). LOVED LOVED LOVED them until I got so busy that I didn't get to my refill appt and I decided why don't I see what my natural lashes look like since its been about a decade.....I have been to three different lash extension places in my "lash" career and the second lady I was going to for a while-I am pretty sure she CUT my lashes!!!! I could feel some snipping at times and the way they looked it was cut straight across! I felt so violated!! So I wanted to let them grow out and wear strip lashes in the meantime....but I am now going to bite the expensive bullet and get a full set again.

 

Anyway- for strip lashes go to Sallys Beauty Supply, the usually have a huge selection of Ardell and Andrea and they have a booklet making suggestions for your eye shape and if you want natural, glamour, or run way model like. Duo eyelash glue is the best but the Ardell kind is fine too. Put them up to your eye and you can snip like the last two lashes off each if its too long for your eye so it looks more natural. I put a spot on glue on a surface, take the ends of closed tweezers, dip a small amount and put an even thin amount of glue on the strip. Pinch the inside with the index and thumb of one hand and the outside with the index and thumb of another. Line it up along your lash line and put on, making sure that it lines up correctly. Keep eyes closed and press and the inner and outer corners and also take your index above the lash strip and thumb below the lash strip and press along the lashes. Fan dry with your hand then open. Brush up the lash with your index finger or a clean mascara wand.

 

Suggestions for eyelash extensions: go to Sally's, again, ha, and get mascara wands. After you shower immediately brush the lashes and blast warm air from your hairdryer....will make them last longer and look prettier, kindof like blow drying your hair ha.

Research who you are going to and what glue they are using on your eyes....the "cutter" started using cheaper glue so we would have to come back sooner since the lashes fell out sooner. read this:

Our glue is medical grade, specially made in the USA for use in sutureless stitches. Many other salons use inexpensive glue bought overseas. This unregulated product is used in automotive repair, not meant for skin and can cause a reaction requiring removal of lashes.

 

use oil free moisturizer and make up remover-oil builds up and breaks down the adhesive

 

I would avoid using any mascara unless you are spacing too far inbetween refills and need to make them look more together....use non water proof mascara if you do...

I would love to ask a question to you eyelash gurus! I have never worn fake lashes before and think it would look great for wedding day/TTD pictures. Can a strip of lashes be applied one day (ceremony day) and still be in place for the TTD pictures the next day? Or should they be removed at night and reapplied? Also, how many times can you apply a single set of lashes? I am definitely thinking that I should practice ahead of the wedding (I have plenty of time). Can you recommed a cheap set to practice with and then a more moderately priced set for the actual big day? (assuming you think spending more is worth it)

 

Looks like antz21 recommends Ardell for the ones to practice with...

I use the generic version of Latisse and I LOVE it. I have been using the drops for about two months and my eye lashes have come in darker and longer. My lashes are so long that it looks like I could have lash extensions. I found out about the generic version from Makeupalley.com. All you do is apply 1 drop of the latisse to a eye liner brush and apply it to the lash line every night. You can get the generic version for $10 from alldaychemist.com

In running through this thread, I noticed that some people were saying salons at the mall/nail places put in extensions for about $30 and they last about two weeks. I feel this is weird/conflicting because I've been seeing quotes for eyelash extensions which cost upwards of $300, and last 4-6 weeks. From what I'm seeing, the first week, a few of them will fall out with your natural lash schedule (they fall out/grow back on a schedule). And after a few weeks, you're supposed to do a refill. 

 

Can someone out there verify this info is accurate? Or, if the $30 dollar, 2 week extensions exist? (that would be awesome) Last, my dear brides, can someone give me a suggestion on where to go in LA for extensions? I am Asian, not a whole lot of eye lash lush going on, so I'd love to have some extensions for my wedding week.

I had eyelash extensions put in, misencil to be exact, and have conflicting feelings about it. I had a very qualified friend do it and she did a great job. I had them done because although my lashes are really long, they are blond and thin. During the appointment my eyes watered and stung like heck, it really wasn't fun. They also got bloodshot. I don't know if perhaps I did have an allergic reaction, but the lashes itched/stung for a good three weeks. They looked really dramatic, I had 14mm ones put in the center since my natural ones there were 10mm. I think these were too long, even though misencil is a very light lash it still pulled.

 

They lasted a LONG time, in fact I still have 3 on each eye over 12 weeks later. I had to trim them to match my other eyelashes since they looked silly. I don't know what the natural lifespan of lashes are, but I didn't really lose most of them until about 8-9 weeks in.

 

The cost was $150 with special facewash. I used SO much oil on my face and around my eyes and I am certain it didn't dislodge any of them.

 

Because of the irritation I don't think I will do this again. Also, my lashes looked a bit scraggly when they started to fall out- I think they were causing the lashes to fall out prematurely. That said they are starting to grow back a bit more normal now but I think it will take another month or two for them to return to normal.

 

I think I will go with just a bit of clear mascara and a few individual temporary lashes to fill in thin areas for my wedding.

Here is my input for lash extensions. I had them done at a nail salon for $30 about 3 weeks ago. I want them for the wedding week because I am too lazy to put on and touch up mascara. I have naturally long, dark lashes that often hit my sunglasses, especially when wearing mascara. I decided to try them in advance for my BD shoot and to check how well they would last.

 

When I arrived for my appointment, she only had medium and long lengths of Ardell individual lashes, so I chose the medium. Which are super long! I sat in a chair and she told me to keep my eyes open. It was tough at first, but I got used to it. She used Lashtite black glue and there was no stinging. The whole process took about 45 minutes. When she was done applying them, she fanned my eyes to help dry the glue. I thought they looked great!

 

The next day, my eyes felt super heavy from the extra weight and I ended up going to bed at 7:30! After that, I got used to the feeling and loved them. I am normally very careful washing around my eyes and didn't use any oil products to remove my eye make up. I normally don't wear make up to work, but felt that I had to even out my look by applying light shadow and blush.

 

Fast forward, three weeks.... none had become loose or fallen out. I tried to use baby oil to remove them. Absolutely no luck! I was finally able to get them off of one eye using make up remover, but can't get any off the other eye! So I trimmed them down and have to go around looking half done all day until I can get to a drug store!

 

I do have to say that I think a lot of my natural lashes came out with removal. So we shall see how long it takes for them to grow back. I think I will do it for the wedding week, but probably try to get the short ones and ask her not to use as much glue.

I have mixed feelings about eyelash extensions.  I like them because they do last if you do not apply much mascara. So, they are great when you are on holiday and dont want to look washed out.  If you wear mascara you should remove it daily. Otherwise, this can lead to an eye infection and ugly build-up. When you remove the mascara with your oil free make-up remover it is inevitable that you will remove some of the glue. When particles of the glue are dissolved this leads to the lashes doing a "lifting" affect. They are no longer completly intact. So, you are faced with either re-applying some glue(which is difficult because you are doing a "spot" job) or removing the lash. When you remove a lash/lashes that are not completley loose, you then loose your own lashes with them. If you are considering lashes for your big day strips are also a good choice. There are several ways to apply them depending on the effect you are going for...cat eyes, baby doll look, glam ect...If applied correctly, they will withstand the heat and humidity. You can re-use strip lashes but should dispose of them every 6 months just as you would mascara because they hold bacteria as well.
