Who will be the next President?

Btw Ann you have every right to only care about certain issues. There is nothing wrong with that. You are entitled to formulate your opinions and decisions on whatever criteria you so desire.

I think personally Christine and I wish more people would look at the issues as a whole but I don't think there is anything wrong with you making a decision on the issues that you feel are important to you.

this is not about whether we are ready or not, this is about social evolution. There will be people who will always say ‘we are not readyâ€. This line of thinking somehow implies that race or gender are a determining factor in regards to what is ‘good enough†or right. It is shocking to hear that statement coming from women, particularly since we as woman have been denied basic human rights and persecuted for having belief systems that ‘men were not ready forâ€.

Would the conservatives still say ‘we are not ready†if the black candidate was Colin Powell? Have you ever considered that historically white males had have easier access to education and the elite clubs that have garnered candidates ‘presidentially ready†in our country? When is the time ever right for change? What are we waiting for?

As I said I am not attacking anyone personally, just jumping in the discussion / debate and putting my 2 cents in.

and i was clearly just on a soapbox so i will step off it smile124.gif

I am just simply saying that Obama can't really say he will just pull troops when he doesn't really know if that is possible. I don't have a problem with that being your most important issue, but there are other issues like the unprecendented recession during war (that never happens, war is supposed to get us out of recession).
Anyway what I guess I am really trying to explain is that, until any of these people get into the white house they really can't promise that they will get us out of the war.

agreed! i'm with you, in your earlier post you mentioned iran and syria moving in if we "pulled out" and that would be devastating to the us. we need to fix what needs to be fixed before we leave. wheather it was a good decision to into iraq or not is not the issue it's making a better situation out of the mess that's been created! remember what happened when we "pulled out of afganistan.....they turned against us for leaving them with a mess, because we used them against the ussr.... history would repeat it's self!

war has been going on since the begining of time and it is very fairy tale like to believe that obama could stop all the wars.... most if not all wars are over religion and biblical issues....religous presucuation, human rights, and holy lands. no one person can stop this.

i hope i didn't just start another battle...just stating my opinion!smile03.gif

I would urge all of you, regardless of political affiliation, to read this article that was done by Vanity Fair about Michelle Obama. I think it's a very honest look into the Obama marriage and her career aspirations and what they would bring to the White House. Perhaps you can take something away from it, perhaps not, but I thought I'd toss it out there as part of our discussion.

Danielle,

no offense taken. but waiting for the right candidate and "not being ready for a black or female president" are 2 separate issues.

i was not endorsing Clinton or Obama, what i was saying was that determining their presidential potential by their gender or race is bigoted. i completely agree that each one of us needs to vote for the 'right candidate', and the right candidate for me may be different than for you or someone else.

i strongly believe that voting for someone just because of their sex or their skin color is not voting for the right reason. you vote for the candidate that you feel is right for the job.

i agree that it would be nice to have a woman or someone other than a white male but i will vote for who i believe is the right person for the job and not because it's time for a woman or a minority!

sorry if i've offended anyone it's not my intention....

the four off limits topics...hahahaha!

religion

politics

sports

abortion

i'm glad you were not offended....i do agree we need to vote for the right candidate that's right to you. it's jut so scary that people especially people our age don't take this more seriously, this is your duty and it's the one thing that you can do to make a difference and some people just don't care! i know a lot of people who know nothing....and that scares me!

I really enjoy the different opinions. It's nice to read viewpoints that you may have never considered otherwise. I really appreciate this thread as well because I really haven't done my homework for this upcoming election. You know with wedding on the brain and all. :)

I know who I'm considering but I haven't done the background check. It's good to go in with your eyes open because politics is never what you think it is and no one is every who you think they are. We can only make the best educated decisions with the information we have available.

Can I join you? That comment someone made about "not ready for a minority or woman president" (paraphrasing here) rubbed me the wrong way too. Why are we even looking at those characteristics? Anyway ...

I should clarify here. It's not that I care about only certain issues ... but I have prioritized them, as everyone does. It's very unlikely that you will find 1 candidate out there that feels/believes exactly the way you do on every topic (or "issue") - so the only option that leaves, unless you do happen to find an exact match, is that you have to prioritize what is important to you, and then find the candidate that matches as closely as you can. So I didn't mean to say that only a couple issues matter to me - but I definitely have them prioritized. Just not sure I know what those "top 5" issues are just yet!
