Who will be the next President?

I also want to point out, in the interest of debate, that what might be an "issue" for some might not be for another. We all have our own life experiences, opinions, and perspectives. I am the type that focuses on what impacts me directly, things like Health Care and the Housing Market, for example. To be quite frank, the war doesn't impact me directly - I realize that I am one of the few and lucky. So when you say to look at "all of the issues" - I might be, the issues that are important to me. Does that make sense? I have to look at what the issues are for me, and my life.

What a great topic! I have a Political Science degree and worked for the state government through college.

 

I have not yet decided for whom I will cast my ballot. I worked so hard on the 2000 and 2004 campaigns that I kind of got burned out and jaded, so I'm not as up to date as I like to be before voting. I will also have to take a look at the running mate before selecting a candidate.

 

I would like to have seen a more middle of the road candidate, one who could attempt to reunite the country. My biggest fear with Clinton and Obama is that any mistakes or negative situation will be blamed on race or gender. I really don't know if the country is ready for either of them.

 

Someone mentioned the groups each candidate was leading in, but the reality is that the only demographic that consistanly votes are white, republican males. This is why so many white, republican males get elected.

 

I'm really interested to see where this will go.

 

Does anyone think Clinton and Obama would run on the same ticket?

i too will be casting my vote for mccain....

i honestly believe that naive voting is dangerous, voting based on one issue or because you might believe that this person will be the "prince/princess charming" that will save this country is just that....it's an uneducated way of looking at the issues...

look deeper into what they say and what they do....because when i comes to politics they can be very different. right now they are all going to say anything to get your vote! and then you might feel dupped in the end. pay attention be vigilant and investigate...

you wouldn't leave your children with a sitter that you didn't interview so why choose your president with out doing the same....

make them work for your vote! ask the questions and get the answers!

i tried really hard to stay out of this but.....i just couldn't take it anymore....politics are very important to me!

from what i have read and everyones opinion i think it is very important to everyone, i feel that everyone has feelings on what is going on in the world today and i believe we will all make a very educated decision on what is important to us individually that is why it is so great to be an american...but i have so much faith in all the woman that have posted on this thread that we are very educated and if we do not know something we will find out before we make any decision...i think its is so great to be excited againg and motivated and a little emotional its great....

I i have been watching and listening to everyone's comments and opinions and i feel compelled to comment on a particular statement that i keep seeing pop up "I'm not sure if the country is ready for a black president or a woman" i am not attacking anyone personally, IMHO this is another form of the kind of thinking that has held back change and social movement for women and minorities in this country for many years.

 

this is not about whether we are ready or not, this is about social evolution. There will be people who will always say ‘we are not ready’. This line of thinking somehow implies that race or gender are a determining factor in regards to what is ‘good enough’ or right. It is shocking to hear that statement coming from women, particularly since we as woman have been denied basic human rights and persecuted for having belief systems that ‘men were not ready for’.

 

Would the conservatives still say ‘we are not ready’ if the black candidate was Colin Powell? Have you ever considered that historically white males had have easier access to education and the elite clubs that have garnered candidates ‘presidentially ready’ in our country? When is the time ever right for change? What are we waiting for?

 

As I said I am not attacking anyone personally, just jumping in the discussion / debate and putting my 2 cents in.

Hmm I don't think anyone has forgotten about it, in fact that is the single biggest issue in this election.
I am just simply saying that Obama can't really say he will just pull troops when he doesn't really know if that is possible. I don't have a problem with that being your most important issue, but there are other issues like the unprecendented recession during war (that never happens, war is supposed to get us out of recession).
Anyway what I guess I am really trying to explain is that, until any of these people get into the white house they really can't promise that they will get us out of the war.

in my opinion we're waiting for the right candidate...

i strongly believe that voting for someone just because of their sex or their skin color is not voting for the right reason. you vote for the candidate that you feel is right for the job.

i agree that it would be nice to have a woman or someone other than a white male but i will vote for who i believe is the right person for the job and not because it's time for a woman or a minority!

Preach on girl! My sentiments exactly! I don't understand when people say we are not ready for a women or black president. Do you think America was ready to free the slaves when they did? I don't think so. Do you think men were ready to allow women to vote when they did? Nope. It is up to us as a society to englighten people and demonstrate that change starts now and today. Too bad if their not ready for it. Sometimes change just has to happen, like it or not!
