Pros and cons to a beach reception

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure about having the reception on the beach. The things I'm concerned about are if it will be really windy, lots of mosquitos, crazy seagulls, lol.

We'll probably go with an indoors reception, but just want to get some feedback first.

How was your beach reception? Give me the good and the bad. Thanks!

Our beach reception was lovely, although it was in PV not RM. Not sure how the climates differ, but I was pleasantly surprised that there were no mosquitos around despite the fact that jungle surrounded us. Maybe the staff fends them off, but I didn't notice any. There was a gentle breeze but no harsh wind. There were small sand crabs at one point but I didn't notice them after sunset, and everyone was barefoot.

I can't think of any cons, maybe we were lucky but it was perfect. Full moon, great weather, bonfire. When it got dark we even had neon blue plankton decorating the ocean and washing up on shore! I wouldn't have traded the beach reception for anything! If you're indoors you may as well be in your hometown....well not exactly, but the beach is spectacular in RM, no?

We are doing a beach reception in Cancun. I guess my feeling on it is I am having a DW for a reason, we love the water and the outdoors so why would I want an indoor reception that I could have here in my hometown? Just didnt want to pass up the opportunity to dine and dance right next to the beautiful blue water! JMO

We are actually having an indoor reception. I really loved the idea of an outdoor one but when we thought about it, it made more sense for us to have it indoors for the following reasons:

1. (Most important for us) We wanted a private reception. I know that some places have areas that can be/are private (especially Las Caletas) but we really didn't want people watching us on the beach in their bathing suits or being the nightly entertainment as they looked down at us from their rooms. We are expecting 100 people so we would have needed a lot of space.

2. We will be dancing and partying all night so we wanted it to be comfortable and didn't want people to be too hot.

Many people (including myself) have said, why have a reception inside when you could just save money and stay at home. The idea of a destination wedding for us was to spend a week or long weekend with our closest family and friends. Everyone will have plenty of time at the beach. But after the church ceremony, we are having a sand ceremony to make it different than just being at home. Hopefully it will be a great experience for everyone!

Yea same here, the reason for our DW wedding is to have a nice vacation with family and friends, and also to avoid having what would have been a huge wedding at home. I actually didn't even really want to have the ceremony on the beach, but with our resort, didn't really have much choice, but I'm happy with that now. We've booked our reception for indoors, but I'm still toying with the idea of having it outdoors. Another thing is that there is another wedding that day, and I will have to find out from the WC if they are having their reception on the beach that night.
