Occidental Grand Xcaret- menus?recption ideas??

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just got some menus from Galit on this site. Still can't believe that I got that info from someone other than the resort first but anyhoo . . . I am willing to share :). I think maybe they handle their weddings by some type of guidelines that they should just fill us in on :). I can send you an email of the files if you want. There is a Carribbean, International, Mexican Buffet options, and I think a Sit Down menu. Just let me know. popcorn.gif

I didn't get flower info till I sent her a pic of my idea. DJ and Photog info she gave up right at the beginning. They seem pretty laid back so I am just now starting to press for more info just because I want to let my guests know what to expect and such.

When are you getting married? :)

Hi Leslie! Welcome to the forum... as Violet said, it can be a big pain in the butt to get info from the resorts, so please let me know if you have any other questions. I am less than 4 months out, so I have accumulated a crap load of random info pertaining to music, food, decorations, etc...

Also, let me know if you would like to see pictures of weddings at Occidental. I posted the pictures from my site visit back in August, but I also have pictures from other brides who were married at Occidental

Happy planning!

Thank You! Violet has been a huge help and has passed along a lot of info some of which she got from you :) I have the menus, DJ services, and spa packages. Pics would be great along with any other info that you have...even the decorations would be fun to at least get an idea. I dont plan on getting married until April of 2009 but I figure the sooner I plan, the better! Thanks again!

YES, I keep forgetting about decorations! lol What info do you have on that?! And pics of an actual wedding would be cool. smile159.gif

Also, I tried doing a group travel contract through my travel agent for better pricing for all my guests. I would highly discourage it because it adds to the stress trying to figure out whos coming, for what days, and when will they pay. I even have the wedding party changing their minds on this stuff after having passed the deadline for 'losing money'. Migraines a plenty over here smile124.giflol.

Thanks a lot!!

Hello all,

I'm also getting married at Occidental on May 12, 2008 and am feeling really unprepared sad.gif. I feel as if I'm winging everything and its kind of freaking me out. Is it possible if someone could post some of the menu and other decorations information. I've seen the wedding site and site visit photos from the other posts and am more concerned about the details. Any help would be really great.

Thanks

Hi Violet!

You basically have 3 options for decorations:

1. Bring everything yourself (which, I am sure you realize, is a huge PITA). The pros are you get exactly what you want and it will cost you less. The con is dealing with shipping or worse, packing it in your suitcases... as well as trying to get your loved ones to bring some stuff in theirs too.

2. Ask Marialma to put you in touch with their "decorations supplier". Marialma put me in touch with a coulpe of companies, and most recently I have been dealing with a man named David from a company called Zuñiga (try their website: decocancun.com). The pros are that he is super nice and has been trying to be helpful. Plus I wouldnt have to worry about clearing customs with 15 glass bowls and linens for 100 people. The cons are that the prices are INSANE (think 17 dollars to rent a single tiki torch) and you are not going to get exactly what you want.

3, Take a chance and wait until you are down there to go to walmart, home depot, costco to buy everything.

I decided to do a little of each. I started out not caring about things like decorations and flowers, and then as my guest list grew, I started becoming more and more concerned. After talking with the suppliers, I got so frustrated with the prices that I decided to reconsider what was and wasnt important to me. For example, I really wanted to hang chinese lanterns across the ceiling of the beach club. The first place quoted me 2500 dollars and David quoted me $1700. Also for votives, the price is $2 per candle... I mean, really?!?!

In the end, I will be forking over the money for the lanterns (although I think I can get the price down a good amount) because they are important to me. As for all the other stuff, I ordered custom linens from ebay for less than what it would have cost me to rent them from David, I am shipping glass bowls and votives, and Marialma promised to check out the price of tiki torches for me at Walmart when we get closer to the wedding date.

Wow... I wrote a lot. I have a lot of prices on decorations if anyone is interested. Please feel free to PM me for more info.
