Saying own vows - any thoughts?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I really like the idea of saying our own vows, well more of still saying the traditional stuff, but also adding in a few lines of my own, but I am not sure that i will be able to hold up and not become emotional!

I sort of well up just reading them out aloud to myself, never mide being stood there in my dress, FI in front of me doing it for real!

Just wondered if any of you who had said your own vows - would you do it again?

Definitely! I would suggest to not overthink them too much. Just write what comes to mind when you think about him. DH wrote his on the flight to PV while I was asleep, and I wrote mine when I was at peace a few hours before the ceremony and they were great! (it doesn't take long to write the truth :P)

Some parts referenced inside things that people didn't really get, but they were special between us two. I closed my eyes and thought about the wonderful person he is and how our love has grown all these years and went with it. There was even a funny line here and there in both of ours..lol

We have also written our own vows. I am a tiny bit nervous about reading them aloud but I think the fact that we have taken the time to write our own vows will make it more special. I don't know about you but I am definitly going to have a notecard with me! I have the memorized but I am sure I will forget once I'm standing there.

I understand what you mean about getting emotional. We completed our ceremony and wrote our own vows last weekend. I sat down to read the ceremony outload to my FH and several times I had to stop or I was going to burst into tears. I'm hoping I'll be able to hold it together during the actual ceremony. I'm thinking I'll bring a notecard because I may forget the vows being nervous. We wrote the vows so that we each say a part back and forth. I think that may help calm us.
