Yes, we traveled during the time that as long as you had your receipt that you filed, you didn't have to have the passport yet. Is it not like that anymore??

He applied for his passport in July and didn't get it until December because they kept giving him the run around.

When I started the delayed birth cert. process, it was in February 2007 - before our August 2007 wedding. They told me they needed 2 of the following - - - notorized affidavid from an older sybling, school records, military records & an affidavid of domicile....along with all birth info for all of his 8 syblings (that part has hard).

We turned in the affidavid from his bro, military records and affidavid of domicile. Well we were later informed that they also wanted school records. It just seemed like every time we turned something in they would ask for something else.
OK, so the big hassel was getting the delays birth certificate. Luckily, that part I shouldn't have to worry about. The part I'm worried about though is that it took 6 months after you applied for the passport for it to come in. We don't have that much time. But, I think I remember the passport agencies were having problems in July & there were delays, which is why the rule was changed to only requiring that you have filed. I think it's now a requirement that you have the actual passport, but I'm not sure. I thought that was just a temporary thing to help out people who's passports were delayed because of the backup.

From July to december were you given more run around about getting the passport? Or was it just slow coming in? We were planning to submit the Delayed BC + a set of school records for getting the passport. From what I've read that looks like enough, but I'm not sure.

Sorry, for all the questions but it's great to hear from someone who has gone through the process. Especially since it was the same state.

The BC was the thing that gave me the most problems. Which is SO crazy to me because my dad served our country in Vietnam!

After I got the BC for my dad then he and my step mom went through the process for the passport. I think after they turned everything in and it was going nowhere, they came to a stand still cause we knew he would be able to travel w/o one.

After they came back they started touching base with the passport office again and that is when they asked for the school record. They provded that then they asked for something else (that I'm not sure of), then my step mom had enough and wrote a letter stating he was being harrased and that she was contacing their congressman to file a report....needless to say he had his passport w/in a week or two.

Maybe we won't have as many problems with your grandma's. If so, you should try the letter to your congressman statement...can't hurt!

My TA suggested talking to a state representative. I wonder how long I should wait before doing that. As far as I can tell right now everything is going along fine. I'm calling the state office for birth certificates tuesday just to make sure there isn't a problem yet.

I don't know if we are having the same problem. My FH's birth certificate was filed more than a year after his date of birth. We found out that this was because the Dr. that delivered him was notorious for getting back logged and submitting birth certs more than a year after the births. They are supposed to be submitted within 7 days. So we got a letter saying that we had to submit an affidavit signed by his mom in addition to school records and a hospital certificate (the ones you get from the hospital that basically says Congrats) or we could get a census report. The census reports are crap because you have to pay $65 to have one search done from one year that the census was taken and if you can't remember the exact address your screwed or if the person taking the info took down any info wrong even misspellings it won't come back with anything.

We just got the affidavit and sent it to FMIL so hopefully everything will get resolved.

The funny thing is that he served in the military for 7 year and received high honors and fought in Iraq, but can't get a passport. Even funnier thing is that he had a passport, which was issued after 9/11, when he was in the military but it expired and he has no idea where it is at any more. What crap.

I know what you are going through...even more stress to add to the other worries. Everyone who is going to our wedding has received their passports except the groom.

Please keep us updated on how things are going.

Did you have to submit that to get his birth certificate or his passport? We only have the school record. There are no relatives older than my grandma alive to sign the forum. We also don't have a hospital record like that because she was born at home. I hope that a birth certificate & school record is enough, but I'm not sure.

Morgan, definitely contact her local congressperson asap!

My SIL applied like regular but 2 months+ later still had nothing. With our wedding closing in she freaked, and I gave her the number to the rep. for her district.

She had the passports within one week after that! They work for the people so make them earn that paycheck! You'd be surprised what they can do!
