Total Idiot calling all Techies... RE: Fonts

Recommended Posts

Pretend I'm a 3rd grader, then explain this....

OK so I was a good girl and read the search thread about installing a font, but apparently I'm a complete blundering idiot today and I'm just not getting it.

Background:

I have Windows Vista.

Only have MS Works Word Processor, not cool Office.

I went to Download fonts | dafont.com, clicked on the download link, unzipped my file and moved it, tried to see if the font name was on the font pull down in MSWP, wasn't, read the info from dafont about troubleshooting, rebooted computer, checked again, nothing.

What am I doing wrong here? I was thinking maybe MSWP won't support downloaded files, but I am a almost

completely computer illiterate and don't even really know what that means. I don't want to have to spend $150 to buy Office if I can print all my invites, etc in MSWP.

Please help, and thanks a million!

OK... this is what worked for me. I sure hope it works for you... but you never know!

So, i had to create TWO folders. Let's call them Font Drop 1 and Font Drop 2. I save the zipped file to Font Drop 1. Open the file. Copy and past the font file into Font Drop 2. Then you can copy and paste that into your fonts folder.

I sure hope it works for you. good luck.

Hi DougsGirl,

I also have a MAC. But had some trouble with fonts as well recently. I do have MS Word though. Here are my 2cents...

1 cent:

After you unzip the file and locate the font you want, make sure to move it to the correct folder. It has to be the folder for fonts that your app will recognize. On my mac, I found two different places for fonts...only one of them was the correct folder.

2nd cent:

Save $150 and find a friend of yours who has Word. Save the file information you need (including the font file) to a flash drive, or CD, or other storage media...and take it to their place and reopen.

Cheers

I agree with all of the above advice. Just make sure the .ttf file is showing up in your fonts folder. If it's not, you may have a secondary font file - use the "install font" option by right clicking the .ttf file from your desktop (or wherever you put it).

My only other thought is that if there is an image that you are looking for (a flower or something), you can also have someone with word copy and paste the image as a picture and send it to you via email or whatever.

Thanks everyone, I will try all these and update you with what ended up working. All of these ideas helped me to visualize the order and made it sound much easier!
