How do you keep the sand in the sand ceremony vase to come home?

Recommended Posts

We had a bottle that had a cork. So we filled the rest of the vase that didn't get filled during the ceremony then we corked it. then we put a plastic bag over the top and secured with a rubber band. I then placed it upright in my carry on. It worked fine. It shifted a tad bit but it didn't mess up the design just moved down so I'll add a tiny bit of sand in it. Heres a pic to see the bottle to show you.

I purchased corks from Hobby Lobby. If you have a vase that has a wide opening and the cork will not fit, bundle up some tissue and put on top of the sand, pack it tightly and wrap the top with saran wrap and apply tape around the edges of the saran wrap. Then store it upright in your carry on bag.

We bought vases when we arrived in the destination. You should be able to find a place that has vases. We brought the sand from home - brown and white. After it was combined, it came up to about 1 inch below the rim of the vase. For transport back home, we scrunched up a plastic bag and put in at the top of the vase to keep the sand formation tight and then we put it in another bag and carried it on the plane. It made it home just fine! It probably helped that our vase narrowed slightly at the top. Best of luck!

We got our friends a sand ceremony for their wedding in Cuba, and to keep the sand in place, they melted wax from the candles over the top of it. The sand shifted a little bit, but it was also tipped over on the plane in her carry-on. It still looks good though. The vase that I want for our sand ceremony is heart shaped and has a cork thing on top. After we get it I will have a look at it and maybe play with it to find the best way to keep it all in place.
