E-Ring stolen from safe in Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

Ok I may be an idiot but where do you store your passport? Thankfully I thought ahead and I'm not bringing my ring. I don't want to worry about it considering I worry about losing it when I'm home. I'm so forgetful.

We brought a suitcase lock with us.. locked our valuables (rings before the wedding, the money pouch Matt wore while we were traveling to and from the resort, my ipod, etc.) into the suitcase and just put the suitcase where we put the other empty suitcases, in the closet. The key was kept in a folded pair of Matt's socks in the drawer.. It was a really small key so even if someone went looking for it, it was take alot to find the key then open the suitcase and get it all put back.

 

Most thieves aren't going to take a long time ripping you off and chance you coming back.. they'll go to the next room.

 

I think wedding couples need to even more cautious than every day travelers.. the hotel workers know they're busy getting married for hours..

I was curious about this and checked Trip Advisor, because this bride has been posting this EVERYWHERE. There was nothing in the reviews but then I checked the forums on TA for Punta Cana, and there is all sorts of drama in the forums about this story. I think she had posted a review and Trip Advisor possibly deleted it after. There is also a note from a rep of the Majestic Colonial saying that he cannot comment because it's in the lawyer's hands, but that the hotel's side of the story will also come out... interesting!

My FI had mentioned about making a fake duplicate of the real ring. I don't know how I feel about that, but this story is making me change my mind real quick.

 

When we went on a water excursion a bride lost her ring in the water so i'm guessing this girl thought her ring was better off in the hotel safe.

that makes me sick to my stomach. makes you wonder if there might not be some ring of thieves that are all in on it there perhaps.

 

after i photograph someones weddings i dont leave the flash cards with the images anywhere. i keep them on me at all times. those end up becoming the most valuable thing there. rings can be rebought (at 25,000 maybe not as easily hopefully it was insured) but photos cant be ever rebought. there was one time i was going swimming the day we left and i actually ripped open some of the upholstery in a chair and hid the photos cards inside the chair. i wasnt gonna risk anything in that safe hahaha...

Just use common sense when you travel and you'll be ok no matter where you go. And if any of you have a ring worth $25K & are heading out for a DW, I'll give you the number to QVC, order yourself a fake ring for the trip, and leave the real one at home :0)

If this really happened I feel bad for the girl. But...I have a hard time following her story and am wondering if theres not more to it. That being said, why would I want to buy a ring from QVC to wear to my wedding I would never take my $23k ring off in DR and if I did it would be in my mouth until I put it back on after washing my hands...period. I agree, these things can happen anywhere in the U.S. I feel scared walking around Baltimore and D.C. with my ring and diamond necklace, studs and LV bag, but what the heck are you going to do? But fake everything? DR is a little sketch with the customer service that I'm used to in the States. But it is a third world country. All you have to do is look at your surroundings on the drive to the resort from the airport. All that to say..no way to a QVC ring on my wedding day.

i figured out a solution.. just get a 25K tongue ring haha. youll never have to worry about taking it off

I feel sorry for this woman just experiencing a theft is traumatic enough. In her story tho, she mentions this happening on the day of her departure, so one would assume that she was not going on any excusrsions thus feeling the need to remove her ring. I would not have taken it off in the first place and I have to agree with another poster, I would have stayed at least a few more days to get a police report etc. I have experienced a theft while in Dominican Republic and let me tell you going to the police is no picnic either, but I couldn't have left without doing so especially as it was all my ID and $ that was stolen.
