Bringing in your own Photographer/visa

April-

I've read on the yahoo board that US vendors are required to get authorization to work in Mexico. At the time all of my vendors were from Mexico so it didn't matter. Now that situations may have changed I just want to be clear.

Since your photographer was from the States did she have any problem shooting your wedding? Did customs or Dreams give her any issue? Did you obtain the visa?

I've recently posted an ad for any interested photographers and there is one that I love in particular. If I could get her, for the cost of a trip only, to snap away for the entire weekend it would be great.

SORRY FORGOT THE "Z" IN AUTHORIZATION, CAN'T CHANGE NOW!

actually he had no problem at all. I asked him if they gave him a hard time with all his equipment and he said not at all. The only country he has ever had a hard time entering is China and he is chinese. I have to say going thru customs was the easiest thing...we went and got passports and really it was so unecessary..they gave me a bottle of wine on the plane, she made a big deal about claiming it But no one asked or checked. @ flew home with my bouquet..they never even checked my carry-on. I will ask him what he filled out on his mexico authorization form (the one u get on the plane) though to make sure.

  • 1 month later...

I'd love to hear others that hired photographers outside of Mexico to do their weddings. We have a friend that does gorgeous wedding photography that said he'd be delighted to do our photos for us. He's actually coming from Austrailia.

I heard from a coordinator at Bella brides who said that they are changing the laws in Mexico for this - over the last couple of months. She said that they're even going to some weddings and checking this out.

She said that he'd probably have to get a work permit and approval from the Mexican consolate (sp?). So, I told her to check more into it and let me know what we'll need to do so we don't have any issues. I'll post more when I hear back from her.

i agree with jennetta....what they don't know, won't hurt them

ps. how do you like bella birdes? i was using them for a couple of weeks...who are you using there? i was using luz mariea. if you are planning a wedding at dreams, they would probably be good but have no pull rates wise...also, they weren't able to get the day i wanted...told me it wasn't available but when i called dreams wedding coord. directly they told me it was available...that was when i decided not to use them.

well, if you want to do it right, he does need paperwork BUT april and tara had their photog go down with no extra paperwork or problems. the paperwork is prob. so he will get an extra tax or fee or something....so lame.

i think april said if your photog does not announce he is down there to shoot a wedding they may just let him go no problem.

lets bump them.

We just said they were family friends and not getting paid for it. If they are traveling with lots of professional looking equipment, they may want to think about gettting other type of carrying bags. My photog looked into getting the permit and said that they make it almost impossible to get.

I would recommend since it is just a family friend to not even try to get the permit. If your friend isn't getting paid, then it isn't considering "work" so they don't need a permit.

Good Luck!
