hi friends! so we recently changed our minds and switched from a legal to a symbolic ceremony for our May wedding in Riviera Maya. Why? cost is the biggest factor - the whole legal package is about $1000 and the license in MN is $40. anyways, when it was a legal ceremony - there was no question about the script/speech - it's a pre-set speech. but now with the symbolic ceremony - we have more flexibility... so questions for you gals.... can you share your symbolic ceremony script/speech? who performed your ceremony? was it in English or Spanish? yes, we are going to be terrible people and not tell our guests we're taking care of the paperwork a week before we leave for Mexico. We'd like the ceremony in Spanish or as close to the legal ceremony as possible. We are not planning our write our own vows - FH says he'd never get through them without crying so we agreed to skip them at the ceremony. thanks!

Hello!! Looking for a point in the right direction! I have my heart set on a chapel wedding with the throw in of being on a tropical island. A lot I have found you must be Catholic to use the church, which we are not. This will be a small wedding with immediate family and a traditional feel. The wedding will be held in August and leaning toward a luxury adults only Caribbean all inclusive resort and attendees will be able to stay at a sister resort. I have seen a few Sandals but wanting more options. Also, curve ball is we will be legally married in the states so his brother in law can officiate the wedding ceremony. Budget is between 10k and 15k for everything. Any and all help is much appreciated! And congratulations everyone!

Hello! We recently got engaged and are looking at doing a destination wedding somewhere in jamaica (July 2018)!! I would be guessing that we expect about 20-25 people to attend. I've been on so many websites in the last few days and I have to say I am beyond confused. First off, a lot of places I see seem to be geared for a wedding with very few in attendance. Secondly, we would like a reception similar to what we would have in America. Lasting around 4-5 hours with traditional dances etc. We also want to keep the price reasonable for our guests to stay. We definitely are laid back with a lot of things but our top wish list would be: Great beach Resort that is geared for adults but has lots to do on the resort Options for a wedding reception like I listed above Cost effective (would like to keep the wedding, reception, and week long stay under 8k <----is that even possible? I will probably have a million more questions that I feel more comfortable listening to the advice of fellow brides that have gone through the process or currently In the process! Thank you so much for any help you can give ????????

I keep wondering if I am missing something. I may have found the ultimate list though and I thought I would share it. sharemywedding org I bought three different books and a binder to help me organize everything but I felt like I was going in circles. I think this is finally helping me. I do need help with a venue though. Does anybody now of a nice place in the New Orleans area that has something like a ballroom to rent for the ceremony and reception together? I am looking for elegant but not overly obnoxious in price. I figure reaching out for recommendations is the best place to start and they will probably have lists of vendors.

5 Reasons Why the Weekday Wedding Is the Way to Go
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
Some couples are set on having their wedding on a particular date that falls on a weekend. But if you're a pair who is more flexible on the date you tie the knot, you may want to consider having a weekday wedding. Here are five reasons why a weekday wedding may be the way to go for you: 1) It allows your guests to extend their trip into the weekend. While you and your sweetheart may be spending an extended amount of time at your destination location before and after the Big Day, your guests may not have that flexibility. When you plan your wedding a few days before the weekend, it may give them a chance to extend their stay by taking advantage of the weekend. For example, plan your wedding on a Thursday or Friday and that gives your guests the option to take some additional time to unwind on Saturday and Sunday. 2) May help cut down on crowds at your venue. While destination locations usually double as popular vacation spots, having your wedding on a weekday could drastically cut down on the crowds in or around your venue -- especially if you are having a beach wedding. Having your wedding ceremony on the beach on a Thursday could cut back on the chances that you'll have a bunch of swimsuited observers watching the festivities nearby. 3) It will give you some flexibility on the rest of your wedding festivities. When you plan your wedding on a Saturday, it's very likely that your guests will make plans to depart and go home on Sunday. But if you plan your wedding on a weekday before the weekend, you'll be able to schedule other fun group activities during the remaining days thereafter. You'll also have less of a chance of booking a day when another wedding will be taking place, especially if you're having it at a popular venue that hosts more than one wedding a day. 4) Popular vendors are more likely to be available on a weekday. When it comes to booking your wedding at a popular destination location, some couples will find during the planning process that their favorite or preferred vendors may already booked. Popular photographers, videographers, event planners/designers, hair/makeup stylists, DJs or bands will often book weddings several months or even a year in advance. So if you find out that your favorite vendor is already locked into another event, consider a weekday wedding to increase your chances! 5) It may cut down on some wedding and travel costs. While destination locations are no stranger to weekday weddings, you may find that your location/venue or even vendor offers a small price break for a weekday event. It's not common, but definitely worth asking about. You may also find that your weekday event date(s) will also cut down on travel and lodging costs for your guests. 5 Reasons Why a Destination Elopement Is Right for You
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
Weddings traditionally call for a celebratory gathering of a couple's closest family and friends, but it doesn't always have to be that way. These days many couples are buying into the concept of the destination elopement experience -- that is traveling to some epic location to tie the knot alone or with just a handful of family and friends, giving it a more intimate and adventurous feel. So is a destination elopement the wedding experience for you? Here are 5 reasons why you should consider opting for an destination elopement rather than the traditional wedding celebration route. 1. You want to keep it between the two of you, or perhaps just a few: Eloping can just involve you and your sweetheart, but doesn't have to be that way. Perhaps you want to invite your parents and siblings along, or your best friends. A destination elopement is an intimate experience, the hardest part is keeping it a secret. So if you plan to invite a few family members or friends, be clear to them that you want to keep it on the hush as your wedding getaway nears. 2. You don't want to deal with intricacies of wedding planning: Wedding planning can be stressful and time consuming -- don't let anyone tell you different. Perhaps you don't have the ability to hire a planner or you simply don't have the time/want to go through the process of planning a wedding. If that's the case, an elopement may be right for you. While an elopement doesn't completely relieve you of the planning process, a celebration that just involves you and your sweetheart or just a small circle definitely requires less detailed planning than a big celebration involving 20 to 100+ guests. 3. You have your heart set on putting your money toward certain wedding details and experiences: Wedding planning is a very personal experience because you can choose to plan your wedding as you see fit. Perhaps having a traditional wedding with several guests means that you have to limit your budget in other areas that you simply don't want to to make compromises in. If that's the case, an elopement might be the best option for you. Either way, what you should keep in mind is that just because your elopement may not have all the bells and whistles of a grand celebration, this is still a special day in your lives together. So don't skimp on getting that gorgeous dress you've always had your eye on and that beautiful bouquet of flowers. Make sure to still invest in a good photographer and/or videographer -- your family and friends will love that you've still captured the day in a way that they can still share in the experience. Having beautiful photos and video will also mean so much more when you can share them with your future children. And if you opt for an elopement, you can also put the money you've saved into other experiences -- for example, getting PADI certified, going on a dive trip, taking a catamaran ride with your small circle, taking a helicopter ride over a surreal location or an extended honeymoon to some epic location. Or maybe it allows you to splurge and book a few days at an amazing resort you otherwise couldn't afford or perhaps those gorgeous overwater bungalows in Mexico! When you opt to elope, you will find yourself with more flexibility in terms of experiences and budget -- so enjoy it! 4. You're Prepared to Deal With a Strong Reaction from Others: When news spreads that you've eloped, you have to be prepared for strong reactions from family or friends -- some of which may be surprising. While people may share your joy, there will be others who may express disappointment or anger that they were not invited to the festivities. You have to be strong and confident with your decision and be willing to deal with whatever responses may get thrown your way. It's OK, just be prepared to deal with unexpected reactions. (Tip: #5 might help alleviate any disappointment!) 5. You'd rather plan a Post-I Do Party: Once you've spread the word, consider hosting a party to celebrate your union at home. This will still give you a chance to share your joy with the ones you love and friends who are dear and near, but don't feel obligated to make it "a wedding." You can do something elaborate if you'd like to make it a simple dinner gathering. It's up to you if you want to go big or small. Whether you're dealing with a tighter wedding budget or feel intimidated by the thought of planning a large wedding, a destination elopement is something to consider these days. It allows you and your sweetheart to better focus on the sentiment of saying I Do. You just have to ask yourself, is it right for you? Photo Tips: Timing Your Sunset/Sunrise Ceremony & Portraits
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
If you've been dreaming of a beautiful ceremony followed by incredible romantic photos at sunset, or perhaps you want to plan for sunrise photos -- you can actually determine the best time to plan your festivities by checking out approximate sunrise/sunset times for your wedding location. By visiting: www.timeanddate.com/sun you can enter your location (if they don't list your city, choose the next closest major city) and you'll have the option to view sunrise/sunset times on the exact date you plan to get married. This is a great tool for you as you begin your wedding planning process. Ideally, portraits done during the golden hours -- the two hours after sunrise and the two hours prior to sunset -- will give you the most flattering and soft light which will help yield gorgeous photos. If you can, try and connect with your photographer on the timing as well to discuss the ideal time for your ceremony and portraits. Your photographer can of great help in determining the best time for portraits.-

Weddings are full of touching and heartfelt times to share with the one you love as well as friends and family. They are especially moving when they involve different cultures and backgrounds. Here are some of the suggestions we have for planning a multi-cultural wedding full of inspirational traditions that will bring together cultures, backgrounds and religions into a party that is sure to be loved by all! Celebrate Diversity! Enjoy this time of planning! Work together to combine traditions in a diverse celebration that will be uniquely yours! Sharing your culture with your partner, understanding together and appreciating the different customs will give you a great start to a long and happy relationship together! 1.Be Daring with a Fashionable Fusion We hosted a Hindu wedding for a couple and the celebration lasted 3 days!!! We loved the professional henna artwork that the bride and her entire family wore on their hands and feet. In the Hindu culture, it is believed that henna enhances the beauty of the bride – and we definitely agree! 2.Wedding Party Customs Bring together traditions from each background for the wedding party. You can add small symbols that represent each culture on the bouquet or the boutonniere. Or have the wedding party arrive in a traditional fashion. In the Hindu wedding, the groom arrived to the wedding with his family and closest friends in an incredible parade that included traditional singing and dancing. The entrance represented the happiness the groom and his family felt toward the new bride. 3. Blending Ceremonial Traditions In Jewish weddings, the couple breaks a glass together to be reminded of the fragility of relationships. In the Filipino culture, they include a money dance. At our Hindu favorite, they included a Ganesh Puja ritual for good luck. Ganesh represented the destruction of all obstacles. It may not be feasible to include ALL of the traditions of both the bride’s culture and the groom’s culture – but pick the traditions that will be the most meaningful and respectful to you and your family. Most of all – have fun while you plan! Check out the images above for more ideas and inspiration! On Trend: Reciting Your Vows in a Different Language We have seen this displayed in two ways. One: recite the vows to you beloved in your first language. There’s something so special about saying your vows in the language of your heart and mind. You could also change it up and read the vows to your spouse in his/her language – this version takes a lot more practice! Tell Us: What is the most memorable tradition you have seen at a multi-cultural wedding?

Hi! My fiance and I are having a destination wedding ceremony in Mexico and have narrowed it down to resorts in 2 different cities - Puerto Vallarta and Cozumel. Both look gorgeous and we are having a hard time choosing which one will be best for us and also our guests! I personally have never been to Mexico so I purely have hearsay to go off of when making this decision...has anyone been to both or either cities and give us pros and cons? If this helps at all, we are considering the CasaMagna Mariott Resort in Puerto Vallarta, and the Secrets Aura Resort in Cozumel (an adult-only all-inclusive resort). We also are getting married in July (I know, not the best time of year in Mexico) because his mom and sis-in-law are both teachers. Any input is appreciated!

Hi everyone! I'm getting married 1/21/17 at Azul Sensatori- A Karisma resort in Riviera maya Mexico. I have had my heart set on using a Live solo musician for the ceremony and having them play the Love Actually theme song ie. Glasgow Love Theme by Craig Armstrong for the processional. I had booked the violinist but their song lists are terrible and so short. It seems ridiculous to pay a grand for 45 minutes when we have zero control over song choices. My WC is looking to see if they will play it but she seems clueless about it so far. Anyone have any experience with these live musicians or have any advice? Anyone book a live musician and get to choose a song for them to play? That's what I'd love clarification on and I feel like my WC will never know. Thank you so much!

Does anyone have an suggestions for readings during the wedding ceremony? Did you have readings during your ceremony or just vows? I would like to have at least two readings to include some of our guests. I'm struggling with choosing readings though. I think I would like them to be religious but I'm not sure. Feedback from people who had readings and people who didn't? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Hi all! I was hoping to get some insight from those of you who have had a wedding at the Grand Palladium Vallarta, another Grand Palladium Resort, or attended any! I am still quite a few months away from our wedding, and we don't have to make any more major decisions until 3 months out from the wedding. It isn't that easy to get a hold of the onsite wedding planners, so I can't really get the answers I'm looking for from them. I am just not really sure what to expect on the wedding day. We are having our ceremony at 4pm, and are paying for a private reception. I am not sure what this "reception" even means on a resort. If anyone can provide me with some details that would be great!!! For example, -I don't know where on the resort this will take place; -how long we have: is it just dinner, or do we get a dance afterwards too; -is alcohol included with the dinner (open bar style? or how does this work); -do people do speeches at these types of receptions? does the resort provide any microphones/sound system for us? If you have any of these answers I would appreciate any help Thanks in advance <3

One of the perks of a destination wedding is the opportunity to really use your unique destination environment as part of the overall decor/setting for your wedding. In other words, showcase that gorgeous beach you're getting married on, or the extraordinary cliffside view where you'll be sharing I Do's. With a destination wedding, you don't need a whole lot of decor to embellish your already beautiful atmosphere. BUT, if you're one of those brides who wants to not only showcase the environment but also bring other decorative elements into your wedding day -- by all means, DO IT! An exciting trend for both weddings and vow renewals these days is incorporating luxurious decor elements with an outdoor setting. Here are a few ways you can bring a touch of chic luxury into your outdoor celebration: 1. Hang a chandelier: bring a little sparkle to your ceremony or reception by hanging a beautiful chandelier up above. It not only will bring some shine to your overall decor but also serves as the perfect focal point to your celebration. 2. Go big on linens and chair covers: Adding gorgeous linens to your table tops or luxurious coverings to your ceremony and reception chairs can make a huge impact on your decor. These are key ways to infuse your wedding colors into your decor but also very practical decor elements. You can also add fabric to your wedding arch or even on the walls to your reception. Go big on fabric to create a glamorous vibe. 3. Use mirrors or reflective pieces: Mirrors and reflective decor not only creates depth, it also can make spaces appear larger and more spacious. Embellished mirrors are great to use for weddings signs and also in table centerpieces. 4. Use decorative pieces throughout as accents and don't hesitate to use diamonds and pearls: Candlesticks, pillows and vases are just a few ways you can make your outdoor space feel more "indoors." Pick unique pieces that you'd typically find in an indoor space and don't think twice about bringing it outside. Also don't be afraid to use pearls and sparkles to accent your decor and other reception elements like napkins, centerpieces and tablescapes. 5. Have an outdoor lounge area: It's not only a great place for your guests to relax during cocktail hour, it's also a space that will give your celebration a cozy feel. Again infuse elaborate fabrics to create a chic lounge area accented by comfy loungers and couches, and don't forget the pillows! Karisma Hotel & Resorts -- which offers some of the most popular destination locations for brides and grooms in Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica -- gives couples the choice of several different decor themes in their Memorable Moments Signature Wedding Collections. These decor packages incorporate a plethora of incredible decor tips, including their "Pure Glamour Signature Wedding Package" -- which is the perfect way to give your celebration a touch of luxury by bringing old Hollywood glitz to an elegant tropical locale. Other popular design themes from Karisma include: Vintage Elegance, Coastal Bliss, Colonial Charm. I just ordered a frame on etsy for our sand ceremony. I'm just wondering where everyone got their sand for the sand ceremony. The frame doesn't come with sand. I know you can buy some on etsy, but I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations. I think I would prefer to be able to go to a store to pick the sand out so I can see the colors in person. Any suggestions???

Unlike traditional wedding celebrations, Indian Weddings often span over the course of three to four days focusing on different aspect of the wedding union with special cultural ceremonies and practices. One of those is the Mayian, which is the preparation ceremony the day before a Punjabi or Sikh wedding is held. According to Sakurako Yakushiji the COO and Master Florist & Decor Expert of LATIN ASIA -- a premiere wedding decor stylist team in the Cancun-Riviera Maya area -- Mayian is usually a night ceremony that involves many rituals among them chuni or choora ceremony, or Jaggo where matka or jaggo (metal bowls) are placed on ladies heads while they dance amongst the crowd. Sometimes the Mayian happens in combination with the Sangeet (music and performances night) and ladies Mendhi where henna is applied. Yakushiji and her LATIN ASIA team recently created a vibrantly hued Mayian Ceremony display at the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort and she explains some of the inspiration behind their creation. Question: What is the inspiration behind this particular design? This particular design we created was a combination of traditional elements presented differently. Why? Because we like to do things better every day! Matkas, choki tables, thalis with multicolor crystals, bajots and a stunning backdrop with Pakistani, Indian and Arabic lanterns all together with colorful solid fabrics and sarees on top with a raised platform dressed with golden sequin fabrics gives a stunning result and all your guests will rave from years to come! If this is the Mayian which is the prelude of the wedding, imagine what we can do for your wedding ceremony and gala reception. Question: What type of feel were you aiming for in this design? Maiyan is the door or prelude to the wedding day, so a backdrop to demark the ceremony enhances its importance and gives it a special touch. Regular backdrops are flat and boring, so we aimed to bring volume and movement. So we used a 3-panel backdrop with contrasting colors, dashes of gold and hanging lanterns to make this Maiyan unique. At LATIN ASIA, we do not do cookie cutter, we like to design from scratch and little details make a huge difference. Breaking the rules and standards of flat, or square we see endless options to create a fabulous shape, incredible color combinations and stunning textures with props. We do not forget even the floor as all Indian weddings must have a raised platform. We decided to pop it up with golden sequin covers to transform an empty space from bland to extraordinary. Question: What was the inspiration behind the color palette you chose? As Maiyan is a very meaningful event and it is the preparation ceremony, we tried to make it vibrant, festive and bright -- in other words colorful. Orange and bright pink are quite popular colors among these festivities. And golden touches is something all Indian weddings must have. Question: What sets LATIN ASIA apart from other styling teams when it comes to Indian destination weddings? As a wedding industry professional for over 10 years and having my wedding ceremony in Agra India, I know the good, the fabulous and of course the ugly around the hood when it comes to destination Indian weddings. Designing décor for an Indian wedding, is not an easy job, as it is not just about the design, it is about knowledge of each of their rituals, ceremonies and events. Each wedding is unique and special. When it comes to Indian weddings, this feeling of uniqueness enhances tremendously and it could be a challenge to rely on people who do not understand the truly meaning of an Indian wedding. Moreover when it comes to Indian destination weddings, the lack of knowledge and understanding each need of bride and groom and both family members is a scary situation. Luckily with LATIN ASIA, we truly understand the meaning of a destination Indian wedding, which is to EMBRACE marriage and collectively work together, where each of the members of the wedding: bride, groom, immediate family, hotel members, vendors, priest, musicians, photographers, etc. -- EVERYONE has to participate actively to make this happen. So it is not surprising to see vendors, hotel members, priests and aunties all together participating and doing things together. Something totally opposite to western style weddings where every part does its own part separately. My LATIN ASIA team and I understand how to embrace this collective effort and we happily participate from beginning to end on every destination Indian wedding we do. For 2015 alone, we did 81 destination Indian weddings from scratch to end, each one with an average of 3-day events. When you first step foot on the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort grounds, you're immediately taken aback by the size of this beautiful Cancun seaside oasis. Boasting close to 2,500 luxurious rooms, this all-inclusive resort offers plenty of location options for brides and grooms to share their nuptials. Be it in one of their oceanside terraces, in one of their glass chapels or gazebos, or perhaps in one of their many ballrooms -- couples have a lot of great venues to choose from. But as a former bride who initially had a tough time finding a Catholic venue option in the Cancun-Riviera Maya -- besides a traditional church -- where a Catholic wedding ceremony could be held, I was quite impressed with Moon Palace's Capilla Catolica. This air-conditioned glass Catholic Chapel is set in a lovely space in Moon Palace's Nizuc section and is just footsteps away from the turquoise blue waters, giving you a beautiful ocean view from the chapel. Aside from the glass walls, this indoor gazebo is also surrounded by beautiful landscaping and a pond. And while the pews, which seat up to 80 people, cannot be removed from the gazebo, the Catholic symbols can be taken down should a couple want to hold a non-denominational ceremony at the chapel. Sunday mass is also regularly held at Capilla Catolica for resort guests who wish to attend. When I was planning my wedding about 8 years ago, I came across limited options for a Catholic wedding. While I wanted to have a Catholic ceremony, I was disappointed to find out that weddings at the time could only be held inside the church. I was after all, a bride who always dreamed of getting married on the beach or at least overlooking the beach. With Moon Palace's glass chapel, couples can still have that beautiful Catholic service with an exquisite ocean view. And no matter how warm a day it may be, the chapel is air-conditioned so you and your guests will certainly be comfortable. Moon Palace also has other air-conditioned glass gazebo options on the resort grounds where wedding ceremonies can be held. Written by LATIN ASIA - Destination Wedding Decor Your wedding is certainly one of the most special days of your life, a day that both you, your husband-to-be and the rest of your family & friends are going to remember for years to come. Whether you’re celebrating in a ballroom, terrace or at the beach, there are bottomless opportunities to include personal characteristics into the details that reflect your own singular style and tastes. Here are three tips that will help you create a wedding experience that is totally "you." 1. Identify one or two elements of your personality that you would like to reflect. Don’t get crazy and try to include hundreds of different traits that identify you. Better yet, focus on one or two elements that truly represent you. Are you a relaxed and worry-free woman? Then start with easy seating arrangements. Assigned arrangements during the wedding ceremony and reception are highly regimented, so why not to offer your guests the opportunity to seat themselves? Simple right? It makes for a more festive and relaxed situation and you will save yourself from hours of pondering whether or not your aunt should be seated next to your cousin-in-law. 2. Selecting Your Wedding Colors. Your wedding colors will be visible throughout the details of the décor like linens, centerpieces, lighting, favors, and you can also incorporate them in your wardrobe and even with the flowers in your bouquet. The idea is to create a look that is consistent. If you are a high energy and fun person, then go for bold and bright colors with unusual combinations like bright blue and yellow for linens, or you can wear those beautiful red high-heels you love, they will look amazing with your ivory wedding gown. 3. Think outside the box. If a big part of who you are is your love for movies, you don’t necessarily have to decorate your tables with stacks of DVD cases or film rolls but you can have fabulous white and black table settings, simple but elegant white floral centerpieces and lovely table names with your favorite films of all times. What aspects of your personality would you like to insert into your big day? We are getting married there 2/16/16. We are from NY and have never been to Quebec so planning has been slightly rough for me but it's all coming together. We have 30 guests coming with us from NY and I just want to make sure it's the best time for them! The only snags I'm running into are: transportation from Chateau Laurier, to Hotel de Glace, and then to Frontenac (where the reception is) - I think I need to include down time between ceremony and reception so that people have time to change from lots of layers to less for the reception and then include transportation for that? Originally I was hoping to go right from ceremony to reception and provide cocktail hour. I also am not sure what I can bring with me/get in terms of food and drink ahead of time (for welcome bags & favors), that I can bring over the border? I'm hoping that someone has or is going to be in the same shoes as me?
