It is a question many travelers ask themselves before booking a trip — should I use a travel agent? And when it comes to booking your destination wedding or honeymoon, the answer to that question is an absolute YES. The agents at Wright Travel Agency not only organize and arrange all travel plans for you and your guests, their agents are also the person in your corner who you can turn to if you run into any issues during the travel process or if you have problems at your destination location. A good travel agent is there from beginning to end looking out for your best interest to ensure that your travel experience is as stress-free as possible. Here are several reasons why you should use Wright Travel Agency (WTA) — the official agency of the BestDestinationWedding.com — to book your destination wedding group: Wright Travel Agency does not charge a service fee, so it is completely free to use one of their agents to book your group. Wright Travel’s agents have decades of experience working with destination wedding couples, small/large groups and honeymooners -- many of these agents are also destination brides themselves, so they are familiar with the special ebbs and flows of a destination celebration and can help you every step of the way. Their agents are well-versed in the intricacies of booking a small or large wedding group and familiar with resorts throughout Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Costa Rica and other Caribbean destinations, as well as other locations throughout the world. If a WTA agent’s services comes at absolutely no extra cost to you, why wouldn’t you take advantage of one of their agents’ assistance and expertise in coordinating your trip and helping your guests with their travel plans? Aside from booking travel plans, their agents can offer in-depth knowledge and insight about your destination location, the resorts you’re interested in and any fun activities or excursions your group may want to participate in. WTA agents can provide a wealth of knowledge to any traveler — and if their services are completely free to use — what is there to lose? It’s a win-win for you in more ways than one. Wright Travel agents have access to special promotions, discounts and perks for the wedding couple and the group as a whole. Resorts and hotels (along with travel suppliers) are often offering special booking discounts and promotions that can save a couple thousands of dollars. And because Wright Travel is a top producing agency with many of the destination wedding resort brands, there are exclusive bonuses when it comes to working with a WTA agent. This is in addition to perks that allow couples and their guests to receive complimentary room upgrades and extra amenities. But with all these special promotions, there are strict rules and deadlines the couple must adhere to in order to qualify for these perks and there is no better person to explain these terms than an agent who is familiar and knowledgeable about your wedding resort. Based on the number of rooms/nights/guests that book into the group, cashback amounts can range anywhere from a few $100's to several $1000's. Truth be told, you can’t expect a hotels/resort to provide you with personal reminders on important deadlines and numbers you must meet in order to qualify for a promotion or discount, but when you’re using a Wright Travel agent, he/she can give you that personalized service you need to stay on top of things. Wright Travel agents can give you valuable insight when it comes to finding the best resort/property that will fit your needs, budget and preferences. When you find yourselves early in the planing process, completely confused about what resort will best fit your needs, Wright Travel agents are there to help. Their agents are extremely well-traveled and visit several resorts throughout all destination locations at least a few times a year. A good travel advisor is a huge resource that can provide you with valuable insight and information on resort options at your destination location. Most of the time, WTA agents have either stayed or done a site inspection at the resorts you’re considering or had past couples get married at the property you choose — this is expertise and knowledge that you simply can’t put a price on. Wright Travel agents can help secure a room block so that your resort does not run out of rooms and all your guests can book at a consistent rate. One of the biggest mistakes couples make is not securing a room block at their destination hotel/resort. Sure it may seem easier just to have all your guests book on their own, when they’re ready. But when you go this route, you also risk having some guests find out the property is sold out or that the rooms that are left are double, sometimes triple, the rate that other guests have booked. And then you'll end up with family and friends not being able to attend your celebration. The other downfall to not setting aside a proper room block is that you won’t reap the benefits of a group booking — that means, your resort will see you and your guests as a bunch of individual bookings rather than a large group. So you won’t qualify for group perks, amenities, promotions or discounts. This could mean missing out on thousands of dollars in cash back benefits and perks. The resort also won’t prioritize putting your group’s rooms close together, because again, you are not recognized as a group booking. When it comes to group blocks, there are deadlines for releasing rooms that go unused to avoid any penalties. This is another key moment when your travel agents expertise is vital. So word to the wise, get a room block. It will save you a lot of money, headaches and stress and you will reap all the benefits of having a room block. Wright Travel agents will have established relationships with the resort you choose and their wedding department, which will benefit you throughout the planning process. If there’s a consistent complaint that destination wedding couples have, it’s that resort wedding department’s don’t reply to their emails and calls quick enough. Understandably, these wedding departments are dealing with hundreds of brides each year and being able to respond quickly to each and every questions isn’t always feasible. But having a travel agent who knows your resort’s wedding coordinator/team will do a lot to ease your worries. A knowledgeable agent can also answer some questions you might have about the wedding process at your resort. A good working relationship between your agent and the wedding department can be really valuable especially when it comes down to crunch time! Wright Travel agents will handle all your group’s travel details and questions, so you don’t have to. Imagine having to answer 20 questions from Aunt Betty about the best flight to take to your destination, followed by Uncle Mike’s wanting to know what the difference is between the different room categories and three of your guests suddenly going MIA once final payments are due — and this is all between your wedding coordinator sending you questions about the kind of bouquet you want, and by the way, you still need to create a seating chart and your dress suddenly is too big so you need to find a seamstress to fix your dress 10 days before your wedding. And one more thing, on the day that one of your bridesmaids is supposed to leave, she unexpectedly misses her flight so now she’s asking for your help in booking a new flight. Does all of this sound stressful? If it does, it’s because it is. Your job as the bride should be solely focused on being the bride, NOT a glorified travel agent or travel advisor. There are so many questions and unexpected hiccups that can happen when a group is traveling, let your travel agent handle those intricate details. This is stress you don’t need, especially when you can turn to a travel agent who will take care of everything without it costing you a dime. Wright Travel agents can offer travel insurance at a reasonable price. When booking through Wright Travel Agency, all travelers have the opportunity to purchase travel insurance, which allows you to cancel your trip for any reason prior to the originally scheduled flight departure time and receive a full refund (minus the cost of the policy). The policy offered also includes reimbursement for trip interruption, medical expenses incurred on the trip, and lost or delayed baggage. It’s a security blanket offered to travelers that offers great all-around protection for little investment. Wright Travel agents can give you suggestions on good vendors to use at your destination location. Gathering a solid crew of reliable vendors who can make your wedding vision come to life can be quite the challenge. So it’s always helpful when you can turn to your travel agent as a resource for referrals and suggestions. With WTA having worked with thousands of wedding couples, their agents will likely have a list of vendors they can recommend to you — referrals are great to have when it comes to planners, photographers, videographers, DJs, hair/makeup stylist and florists. WTA agents are happy to share their recommendations with clients. Wright Travel agents can help book any other excursions or outings that you or your guests may want to do on their trip. In addition to sharing their knowledge and suggestions of things to do/see at your destination, a WTA agent can also pre-book excursions so you don’t have to hassle with organizing these outings during your stay. If you want to do a special activity or excursion off-site with your guests, your agent can help give you ideas and options to consider. Having your WTA agent assist you means you’ll have more time to enjoy your family and friends. Wright Travel agents work for you and look out for your best interest from beginning to end. Your WTA agent works as a liaison between you and the travel supplier and resort — so your agent is always looking out for your best interest and can handle problems that you or your guests may experience prior to, during or after the trip. WTA agents are in your corner, so don't hesitate to use their expertise, knowledge and experience to make the travel planning process one less thing you have to stress over. When it comes down to it, the question really is — Why wouldn’t you use a Wright Travel agent? A travel agent is the travel expert who can save you an incredible amount of time and money when it comes to planning your destination wedding or honeymoon. They are there to guide you through the process and find the best property to fit for your needs, don’t be afraid to use their knowledge and resources as much as you can. At the end of your wedding journey, you’ll be glad you did! Click here to read more than 100+ reviews about Wright Travel Agency and their destination wedding services. Hello Everyone! My fiancé and I have been engaged for almost a year and we have just begun planning our wedding. We are getting married in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica; it is about 2.5 hours away from San Jose (the capital). We have a beautiful villa picked out that will serve as our accommodations and the location for both the ceremony and reception. I have been in contact with a couple wedding planners/coordinators that live in the area down there. We are leaning towards one in particular named Chelsea Brandau from Oasis Weddings. So far she has been great! Very detailed and fast with communicating back. I am wondering if anyone has gotten married in Manuel Antonio and/ or if they have used Oasis Weddings before. I plan a lot of events here stateside and for a moment I thought about planning the wedding myself and possibly hiring someone for the day of or doing a 30 day out package however I know the stress and needs that come along with such a task and I am not sure I commit such time. We are having about 40-50 guests attend. Our wedding is June 2019. We are in the process of creating and sending out the save the dates. Another question I have is how much information should we be sending out with the save the dates or in the next few months. Ive read so many different things online and now my head is spinning. Since we are not getting married at a resort and without travel packages, we will be the ones communicating with our guests about renting out other nearby villas that are managed by the same company. Our first step is getting a solid head count and to start booking other homes since the main one we are using for the wedding can only sleep 20guests (including ourselves). I would love and welcome any feedback on anythinnggggggg. Thank youuuuuu!

U.S. Passport Fees to Increase Starting April 2, 2018
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
If you're planning to get a new passport, you may want to get that process started ASAP as passport fees will be increasing at the beginning of April 2018. Effective April 2, 2018, the passport execution fee will increase from $25 to $35. The $10 increase only applies to U.S. passport applicants using the DS-11 form, such as first-time applicants over 16, children under 16, and applicants who re-apply after reporting their previous passport lost or stolen. The $10 fee increase does not apply to adults eligible to renew their passport by mail using the DS-82 form. Customers applying with the DS-11 form pay two separate fees: an application fee to the U.S. Department of State and the execution fee to the passport acceptance facility. Passport acceptance facilities -- which include post offices, clerks of court, or public libraries -- are designated to accept passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. . Looking to plan an adventurous honeymoon this year? Why not explore the beautiful national parks and historic spaces throughout Canada for free? In honor of Canada celebrating its 150th birthday this year, the county's park service is offering free Discovery Passes for all visitors to national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites throughout the country's 13 provinces in 2017. Passes typically cost about $7 USD per person. To obtain the pass, you have to register online -- those interested only need to order one pass for your group or family if you plan to travel together. A 2017 Discovery Pass is valid for everyone arriving in the same vehicle at a national park, or arriving together at a marine conservation area or historic site. Do note, the Discovery Pass is only accepted at national historic sites which are operated by Parks Canada. The passes, which do not cover camping fees or tours with park rangers, are valid from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. As part of its continued effort to go global, Southwest Airlines now offers service from several major U.S. cities to Cancun, Mexico, including nonstop service from Los Angeles, Calif. While Southwest has always been known for their reasonable airfare rates and flexible and abundant flight schedules, the airlines jaw-dropping rate for a direct flight from LAX to Cancun was all the motivation I needed to take advantage of a last minute trip with my family that I booked less than 24 hours before I was scheduled to depart. How much you ask? My ticket was $283 roundtrip all taxes included! (I also traveled with my 2-year-old toddler on this trip, so for the two of us it was a little under $600). Full disclosure, I was a little hesitant to take a Southwest international, because I wasn’t sure how they would compare to other airlines especially when it comes to the basic features they offer. But I’m here to report, my first and only experience with Southwest from Los Angeles to Cancun had a few ups and downs, but overall I can say it was an affordable and efficient way to travel and I'd definitely consider using their nonstop service to Cancun again. The pros about flying to Cancun via Southwest: The leather seats are comfortable and spacious and you get a good amount of legroom. Having been on several flights, I’d say legroom and comfort on my Southwest flight was above average. So if comfort is important to you — you’ll be pleased on this flight. You can check in luggage for free. This is especially important to point out because any other airline will charge you for check-in baggage. The awesome check-in policy is what Southwest is known for, and when it comes to international travel, it applies here too. Your first two check-ins are absolutely free, so if you’re bride with lots to bring, Southwest is a great option that will cut down on baggage fees! Easy check-in and flights are timely. During both legs of journey, we didn’t run into any problems with check-in or flight times. Also important to mention, there were several flights we could have chosen from when we were booking our tickets, which is a great advantage if you need flexibility. From Los Angeles, there were two non-stop flights to Cancun offered daily — one in the morning (with arrival in mid afternoon) and one in the mid afternoon (with arrival in the late evening). This gave us options if we needed them. Great rates. Bottom line, Southwest offers unbelievable rates if you can nab them at the ‘Wanna Get Away’ rate. I’ve never flown to Cancun for such a great rate with check-in baggage fees included. The cons: Southwest does not offer pre-assigned seating. So yes, you have to chance possibly not sitting next to people you know. The solution to this is purchasing the Early Bird check in option, which allows you to get a higher priority boarding to increase your chances on getting the seat(s) you want. This option was only $15/person for each flight, so it’s not too high a price to pay if you want a better chance of sitting where you want and choosing your neighbor. The no-assigned seating method may also make you a bit nervous if you’re traveling with children, but after some asking around, I found out that they do allow people traveling with children 6 and under to board the flight after the A group and preferred members board — so you’ll likely be abler to sit next to your child with no problem. I also witnessed the flight staff, really work hard to keep families together once all passengers were situated. No meals are offered for free or for purchase on Southwest flights, but they will load you up with all the drinks and snacks you can eat (chips, cookies, crackers and peanuts), which is actually a great thing compared to some other airlines that do offer food for purchase. So make sure pick up a meal at the airport or bring one from home if you like being able to eat a meal on your flight. Wifi service is TERRIBLE on Southwest. I can only attest to my two flight to and from Mexico, but either way it was a crap shoot and mostly didn’t work. Wifi will cost you $8 for all all day pass on a single device and no matter how hard I tried to pay — I was basically like “TAKE MY MONEY!” and it never worked. So don’t rely on Wifi onboard, this is a problem I’ve read is a common occurrence in other travelers who’ve used Southwest to go international. While Southwest does NOT offer any entertainment module on board (screens on the backs of seats in front of you or television screens above), they do offer free streaming TV and movies for purchase if you use your own device — BUT again, anything streaming on my flights was terrible. This was basically the message I saw the whole time when trying to watch their free live TV, “ Hold tight! Our Live TV is currently outside a coverage area.” There simply wasn’t a stable connection and it was quite frustrating. So I basically spent my in-flight time on my laptop catching up on work (i.e., writing up this review LOL.) If you can get past Southwest's minor shortcomings, it’s a great and affordable option for traveling into Mexico. It all really depends on what in-flight comforts and services are important to you! Note: My travel period from LAX to Cancun was May 29, 2017 to June 1, 2017. 5 Reasons Why the Weekday Wedding Is the Way to Go
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
Some couples are set on having their wedding on a particular date that falls on a weekend. But if you're a pair who is more flexible on the date you tie the knot, you may want to consider having a weekday wedding. Here are five reasons why a weekday wedding may be the way to go for you: 1) It allows your guests to extend their trip into the weekend. While you and your sweetheart may be spending an extended amount of time at your destination location before and after the Big Day, your guests may not have that flexibility. When you plan your wedding a few days before the weekend, it may give them a chance to extend their stay by taking advantage of the weekend. For example, plan your wedding on a Thursday or Friday and that gives your guests the option to take some additional time to unwind on Saturday and Sunday. 2) May help cut down on crowds at your venue. While destination locations usually double as popular vacation spots, having your wedding on a weekday could drastically cut down on the crowds in or around your venue -- especially if you are having a beach wedding. Having your wedding ceremony on the beach on a Thursday could cut back on the chances that you'll have a bunch of swimsuited observers watching the festivities nearby. 3) It will give you some flexibility on the rest of your wedding festivities. When you plan your wedding on a Saturday, it's very likely that your guests will make plans to depart and go home on Sunday. But if you plan your wedding on a weekday before the weekend, you'll be able to schedule other fun group activities during the remaining days thereafter. You'll also have less of a chance of booking a day when another wedding will be taking place, especially if you're having it at a popular venue that hosts more than one wedding a day. 4) Popular vendors are more likely to be available on a weekday. When it comes to booking your wedding at a popular destination location, some couples will find during the planning process that their favorite or preferred vendors may already booked. Popular photographers, videographers, event planners/designers, hair/makeup stylists, DJs or bands will often book weddings several months or even a year in advance. So if you find out that your favorite vendor is already locked into another event, consider a weekday wedding to increase your chances! 5) It may cut down on some wedding and travel costs. While destination locations are no stranger to weekday weddings, you may find that your location/venue or even vendor offers a small price break for a weekday event. It's not common, but definitely worth asking about. You may also find that your weekday event date(s) will also cut down on travel and lodging costs for your guests. Hi everyone! I am starting to plan our future destination wedding (thinking February 2018). We come from opposite coasts of the states so Cancun seemed like the natural caribbean location (easy to get to for both sides and relatively affordable). Question I have - are there any good starting places/resources/links on info for prices etc? Or anyone have any of their price experiences to share? I really want to get a ballpark on how much this might cost us before planning everything and realizing it's too expensive. I've stayed in ME Cancun and Paradisus Playa Del Carmen before and loved both (modern, nicer, relaxing) so would be interested in something like that (not a huge fan of the old fashioned resorts).

Hoping to plan the perfect honeymoon trip to top off your wedding experience? We've already given you 5 tips to guide you as you plan the ideal honeymoon, but here are 5 more suggestions to ensure that your honeymoon overflows with wedded bliss. (See Tips #1 thru #5 here) 6. Fly during off-peak days and times. Opt for traveling on non-peak days and times, for example, traveling on a Tuesday or Wednesday often yields cheaper flight prices, which can be reduced even further if you're open to taking a red-eye or late night flight. That's not to say, book the flight that leaves you with 2-4 layovers, because extending your travel time can be exhausting and may require you a few days to recuperate, but definitely consider an off-peak travel schedule because it could save you big bucks in the end. Consult with a travel specialist like Wright Travel Agency -- the official travel agency of the Best Destination Wedding Forum -- for the best deals and to ensure that your accommodations are arranged to fit in with your travel schedule. 7. Sleep late and sleep in. Once you arrive to your destination, make it a point to sleep late and sleep in. Don't let alarm clocks wake you, this is your time to completely clock off from the rest of the world and enjoy the love of your life. So say yes to taking that late night walk along the beach to hear the waves crashing or catching that late night movie that happens to pop up on your television. And if you miss breakfast because you decided to sleep in, that's OK too. The key here is to RELAX and enjoy every minute. 8. Plan to do something new and exciting. As you plan your honeymoon, look into an activity or excursion that will bring you and your spouse's heart rate to another level. Do something new together that you'll never forget -- be it something as adventurous as a zipline tour, an amazing but challenging hike or maybe swim with the whale sharks or perhaps something as simple as taking a cooking class together or opting for a salsa dancing lesson. Create memories by doing something out of the norm and don't forget to take pictures! 9. Bring a camera and take lots of photos and video. DON'T forget, I repeat, DON't forget to bring your camera. Snap away at every wonderful moment big or small during this time away with your honey and capture the feelings, sights and sounds of your experience. Smartphones these days are perfectly capable to taking great photos and video, but if you've got an actual camera, bring that too! You will cherish these photos/video years into your marriage. 10. Stay within your budget -- remember you have to live "real life" when you get back. It's easy to go "buck wild" with the wallet when it comes to your honeymoon, but make sure you stay within your budget. If you feel inclined to purchase a fancy dinner, fun excursion or lovely trinket during your time away -- do it. But think twice before you push the button on any big purchase(s) that might break the bank, remember, when the trip is over it's back to real life and you still gotta live and pay the bills! Part One: 5 Tips for Planning the Perfect Honeymoon Trip
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
Hoping to plan the perfect honeymoon trip to top off your wedding experience? Here are 5 tips to ensure that your honeymoon overflows with wedded bliss. 1. Create a honeymoon fund early. Do not hesitate to start putting money aside for your honeymoon as soon as your sweetheart pops the big question. Keep the wedding and honeymoon funds separate and stick to your budget. 2. Consult in a Travel Agent. A travel specialist can give you advice on the best time/dates to travel as well as provide you with the best rates. Travel agents are also a great resource of information on things to do in your destination location. But most importantly, travel agents are there to assist you should you have to deal with any changes to your travel plans or run into any problems. They are there to help you along the way, which doesn't happen when you opt to book through a travel discount site on your own. Take the time to consult and use the services of a travel specialist like Wright Travel Agency -- the official travel agency of the Best Destination Wedding Forum -- it can make a world of difference! 3. Don't leave for your trip too quickly after the wedding. Some couples are under the impression that honeymoons should begin immediately after the wedding, but that is not always the case. In fact, you should give yourself some time after the wedding to unwind and relax before you part for your honeymoon trip. The weeks and days leading up to the Wedding Day are stressful enough, and when you have to make sure to pack your bags and get things in order at home before you take more time off, it can be even more overwhelming. Give yourself at least 2 to 3 days after the wedding to unwind and spend time with friends and relatives who may have traveled into town to attend your wedding. Some couples will even opt to plan their honeymoon weeks or months after the wedding -- there is no true timetable. Plus it will also give you additional time to save up for your travels! 4. Plan a honeymoon itinerary but make it flexible. While planning your honeymoon, draft up a general schedule for what you plan to do together during your time away. But don't feel pressured to stick to that schedule -- let your mood dictate timing. If there are certain sites or locations you want to make sure to visit, then set some days aside to do those things -- and spread the itinerary out. But be flexible enough to where you can switch some activities around if need be. Again, the assistance of a travel specialist can be of great help when it comes to planning your activities. 5. Give yourself time to adjust to reality before heading back to work. Much like after the wedding, you should give yourself at least 2 days to readjust to home life before returning to work. So plan to come home from your honeymoon with a few days to spare before you go back to reality AKA work. Your body and mind will thank you! 5 Reasons Why Villas are Perfect for Family/Group Trips
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
Traveling with groups of family or friends can be quite challenging for several reasons. Besides the obvious intricacies of air/road travel in a large pack, finding a hotel or resort that can accommodate a large group while keeping everyone close to each other can be a real nightmare. So when it comes to group-style vacations, why not have everyone under one roof via Villa vacationing to help simplify things? Villa-style vacationing is becoming a quite popular trend for those with large families or traveling in groups. Here are five reasons why villas are ideal for family/group trips: 1) Your group will have complete privacy. At your villa, you don't have to worry about loud neighbors, making too much noise that might disturb your neighbors or having to plan gatherings when the grounds are not too crowded. Villa vacationing means your group will have the ability to enjoy your private space from morning till night without having to worry about other guests. If your villa comes with a pool, there's no need to worry about other guests crowding the pool space because it's all yours! A villa not only serves as your vacation hub, it's more like a vacation home giving you all the amenities and space you need for a relaxing stay. 2) It can be affordable when split between different parties and the perks make it worth it. Although pricing for villa vacations can often seem intimidating, when splitting the costs amongst your group, a luxury stay at a villa can be quite affordable. The perks of staying at a private villa also make the costs worthwhile for several reasons: open access to the amenities (pool, spa, pool tables, lounge furniture), homestyle comfort and a spacious living areas you simply don't get in a resort room or suite, ability to host gatherings for your large group on your own timeline. Villas also often come with kitchens so you can dine at home if you'd like, also cutting costs. 3) The Villa serves as the hub. There's no need to plan to meet anywhere or schedule a time slot where you group can gather, because your villa can serve as the hub for your group making outings or special activities much easier to plan. Want to plan a special meal for your group -- why not do it right on your villa property? Your villa gives you the space you need for any occasion. 4) You can still have a sense of privacy amongst your group. Villa vacationing doesn't always necessarily mean you'll be on top of one another -- there are spacious villas that will still give each family in your group the privacy they need on their own. For instance, the gorgeous Villa Carola by Karisma at Azul Beach offers separate entry ways for the first floor and second floor units -- yet both are on the same grounds and share the same pool, but each story has their own living room space giving each the privacy they need. And with six bedrooms and bathrooms, you can easily accommodate up to 12 adults and 8 children. 5) Builds camaraderie in your group. Sharing the same roof will not only give you a sense of togetherness, it also gives you more opportunity to create more memories together! Villa vacationing is perfect for groups especially large families -- how happy are kids when they know they can hang out with their favorite cousins from morning till night? Villa vacationing is truly the perfect option for families who want to spend time together and share a vacation experience they'll never forget! 4 Reasons Why Staying at a Smaller Resort is Ideal for You
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
With so many options out there, choosing the resort to host your wedding festivities can be quite a difficult task. But besides location, a resort's size can often play a huge role in setting the tone for your entire celebration and getaway. Here are 4 reasons why a smaller resort is the right choice for you: 1. Group gatherings are easier to coordinate. When your resort is of smaller size, your wedding group will literally take over the property -- and that can be a great thing! It won't be hard to run into your attendees at a smaller resort and it makes it much easier to plan gatherings for the group. A unique camaraderie is one of the best things about destination weddings because you end up making great memories together! 2. Everything is conveniently located and you won't feel intimidated by the size of the resort. I've stayed at huge resorts before and while the walks from one spot to another helped ease the damage I was doing to my vacation waistline a la all-inclusive style vacationing, I didn't always feel like "hiking" everywhere. Big resorts while spacious and offer a lot to see, are not always convenient. Smaller resorts have a much more intimate feel and nothing is ever too far of a walk. When I vacationed at Azul Beach Hotel in Puerto Morelos, Mexico this past spring, I was surprised by the spacious but intimate feel of the resort. I loved that everything was just a short distance/walk away -- this is especially helpful on those warm days when all you want to do is lay by the pool or take a dip in the ocean because a dose of water therapy is always nearby! 3. You won't feel overwhelmed by the crowds. With large resorts come big crowds. At a smaller resorts you won't feel like the pools have too many people in them or that the beach is too crowded. And when you're looking for some true R&R, a smaller crowd is a must! 4. Getting dinner reservations is typically pretty easy. When you're staying at smaller resorts that offer a variety of food options, you'll find that dinner reservations aren't hard to come by. So planning that special dinner for two or perhaps a group meal will be a cinch. 5 Reasons Why Staying at a Larger Resort is Ideal for You
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
With so many options out there, choosing the resort to host your wedding festivities can be quite a difficult task. But besides location, a resort's size can often play a huge role in setting the tone for your entire celebration and getaway. Here are 5 reasons why a larger resort is the right choice for you: 1) There's lots of space and usually a plethora of options to host events and celebrations. Larger resorts will typically have more options for you to choose from when it comes to hosting weddings, events or gatherings -- and this is really important when it comes to larger celebrations that include a lot of guests (like Indian destination weddings). Aside from the wedding, if you plan on hosting a welcome gathering or farewell breakfast or brunch, a larger resort will give you different spaces/areas to choose from. Mega resorts like Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort in Cancun offer a wide variety of incredible spaces and location options for brides and grooms who want different settings/atmospheres for their celebratory events. 2) There's typically a lot of stuff to do on a large resort. Larger resorts will be packed with lots of different areas to explore and plenty of things to do. Expect an abundance of activities both day and night for kids and adults alike. It's impossible to get bored at a large resort because there are ways to keep busy from morning till night. 3) You will usually have a lot of food options and eateries to choose from. With a larger resort usually comes many food options and eateries. If you want you and your guests to have a variety of food and drink options, a larger resort will often give you more than enough choices. 4) Every day will give you an opportunity to explore a different part of the resort -- it's like you're in your own city! If you're the type who wants to be able to do everything and anything without leaving your resort grounds, consider a larger resort. You can choose a different part of the resort to explore and experience each day. Besides restaurants and pools, larger resorts will often have a nightclub, lounges, bars and daily entertainment for you to enjoy. 5) You will have the opportunity to meet and interact with a lot of different people. If you love being social, a bigger resort will give you plenty of opportunities to do get your mingle on. Hello everyone! I'm hoping someone can help us gain some clarity on the topic of Group Rates. We're getting ready to sign our resort room contract and the rates look like they are basically $12 off/pp/per night of what you'd get on the resort's own site for an individual (non-group) stay. The promos our TA has gotten us are great and we're very happy with them. I'm just wondering, how much should we expect to save our guests on the room rates? Is the group deal more about the promos than the rates? I've tried Googling "average group rates savings" but really haven't gotten anywhere. Any kind of clarity you can offer here would be appreciated! Thanks!

Dealing with Guests Who Want to Book Outside the Travel Agent Group Rate The art of getting all your guests to place their deposits for your destination wedding accommodations and finalize their booking through your travel agent can be hard -- we're talking rocket science hard. Because you'll likely have at least one guest who needs a little more time to book, another guest who goes rogue and THINKS they have found a better deal at the same resort, and of course another set of guests who decide they're going to stay at another resort all together. So how do you deal with this? The bottom line is: be open and honest with your guests from the start, and be sure they have full information on the process of booking their stay.. When wedding guests book outside the established travel agent group rate, there is often a resort surcharge for that person to attend any of your scheduled events. So let your guests know about these extra fees that must be paid if they book outside your contracted group rate. Since couples have arranged a group rate and held rooms for their guests in a group block, many brides and grooms do pass any additional charge for booking outside the group on to those guests who choose that route. So convey to your guests ahead of time what the ramifications are if they book on their own. Having guests book elsewhere could also put additional pressure on the wedding couple, as most resorts require a minimum occupancy to stay at the resort. Also when it comes to guests who decide to book lodging elsewhere outside of your chosen resort, make sure they know there will typically be a visitors fee for them to enter your resort and attend your wedding (if that is in fact, your resort's policy). These visitor fees can average anywhere from $75 to $200 per guests --so these unexpected costs can easily add up. Additionally, if a resort is full to capacity, they are under no obligation to sell these "day passes" to people wishing to enter for the day. Resorts will not overcrowd their paying guests by allowing in those staying elsewhere if they are full, meaning there's no guarantee they'll be able to attend your wedding at all! Now it's up to you whether you want to cover your guests visitor fee or tell your guests that they would be responsible for paying it on their own -- Most couples make it clear that any additional cost for those choosing to stay elsewhere would be the guest's responsibility, from transfers, to taxi to entry fee. Once these are all calculated into the total price, it is quite typical that the cost of staying elsewhere can actually be higher than just booking into the group block and staying on site. Additionally, the whole concept and experience of a destination wedding includes not just guests attending the actual ceremony, but leisure time spent on the beach with the wedding couple, or relaxing with a drink in the lobby bar -- all things that off-site guests would be excluded from experiencing. It's also important to emphasize to your guests that you've contracted the help of a travel agent, who can help ensure their needs are taken care of should any problems arise during the booking or travel process. Travel agents usually also have established working relationships with the resorts they work with and can quickly handle any issues or unexpected problems that arise -- giving you the attention and assistance you need, whereas those who book deals on discount travel websites often have no recourse or anyone to turn to who can offer immediate help. Most importantly, when guests stay off-site, they are missing out on the best part of a destination wedding -- which is the group trip aspect. It's the bonding of the wedding guests where you really foster relationships with people and long lasting memories, and these times can only truly be had when you are interacting with the group at the same resort. How Do You Tell Your Guests of the Importance of Booking the Travel Agent Group Rate? TA Wendy, one of the agents for Wright Travel Agency -- the official agency for the Best Destination Wedding Forum -- suggests that couples put something on their website or Save the Date that says, "We are delighted that you are considering attending our Destination Wedding, and to make your booking the trip smooth and easy we have contracted for the rooms with a Travel Agent who specializes in Destination wedding travel. If you are planning to come this is how you should book your reservation to ensure you are in our group block and a part of all the festivities." A simple statement like this will often deter guests from going off and travel shopping on their own. Unfortunately, there truly is no way you can force anyone to book according to your wishes, but you do have the ability to provide your guests with the knowledge upfront of what can, and will happen, if they decide to book outside the established group rate. Being upfront and honest from the get go, can save you a lot of headache, stress and most of all money in the long run! For more information and assistance about establishing a group rate at the resort of your choice, contact one of the Best Destination Wedding travel agents who specialize in destination wedding and honeymoon travel. Things to Do in Cancun-Riviera Maya: The Camel Safari
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
The Cancun-Riviera Maya is thriving with an abundance of fun activities and adventures for you and your guests, but perhaps one of the most unique experiences one can encounter is the Camel Safari at Maroma. The Camel Safari allows participants to traverse atop these incredible creatures through a jungle-like landscape bordering along Maroma Beach, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Designed for both children and adults, this sand dune adventure will give you quite a thrill while also giving your breathtaking views of the incredible Caribbean coast. The ride itself is about 45 to 60-minutes long with a stop in between to enjoy the gorgeous seaside views and also a chance to feed these sweet and friendly camels with carrots. You'll also have ample time to take great photos with the camels. While this safari tour will get your heart racing, it's quite a comfy ride and the camels walk at a leisurely pace so you still get to enjoy the scenery and take photos or video as you ride along the path. It's a great experience for couples as well as their guests -- so a Camel Safari would be a great idea as a group outing, that also welcomes children if your group has a combination of both young and old. The Camel Safari adventure includes round trip transportation from your hotel (service from Cancun, Riviera Maya, or Playa del Carmen) to Maroma, the camel ride, safety gear, a bilingual guide, time at the beach for photographs and camel interaction and a post-ride snack of refried beans, tortilla chips and hot sauce as well as bottled water and non-alcoholic beverages. Participants must be at least 10 years old to ride on their own camel (children under the age of 5 are free, and may accompany an adult on the same camel). This activity is not permitted for: pregnant women, people with a weight over 220 lbs., or people with any health condition that may prevent them to participate safely in the tour. To find out more information on rates and availability of the Camel Safari at Maroma, visit: www.maromaadventures.com For those looking for a more thrill-seeking pace, Maroma Adventures also offers other tours and experiences, such as speedboats, horseback rides, scuba and snorkel outings, dolphin swims, jetpacks and ATV adventures. Visit www.maromaadventures.com for more information. - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and I was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. Hi all! I am REALLY hoping to do a mexico, cuba or dominican republic wedding. We are from Ontario and fiance is a teacher, so we are looking at December during Xmas break our March break, 2017. I started getting quotes from Sunwing for Dominican Republic travel+stay for Dec 31-Jan7, and the rates are roughly $2000 per adult, $1300 per kid, taxes included. I knew it would be a lot in high season but, damn - I feel like this is just an impossible ask for our loved ones. We were looking at about 50 people coming and I thought the group discounts would be more impressive. I am almost ready to give up already. Have people been finding anything any more reasonable for that time of year from Canada? Is D.R. just super expensive? Are we screwed Did any of you fine folks find some way to get something more reasonable for your group during high season? Thanks

So according to our contract with Air Transat, we were to be refunded the cost of one trip (less fees and surcharges) for every 15 adults travelling for 7 days as part of our wedding group. We have 33 adults booked, so will be getting the base cost of 2 trips returned to us. According to our contract, the base price of our trip was $1,089 plus fees of $386 ($1,475 in total). When I check our trip online right now, it also shows a similar base price (fluctuating daily) with a constant $386 in fees and surcharges broken out. Air Transat has told me that they will be refunding me $1,510 for two trips instead of the $2,178 I believe I am owed ($1,089 x 2), and my TA has said that the difference is just additional fees and surcharges (i.e. we get back $755 per trip, meaning only half the cost of the trip is for flight and accommodations). Has anyone run into this issue with Air Transat? I thought by Ontario and/or Canadian law they had to disclose all fees separately from the base price, but I can't seem to find that regulation when I google it. I've asked my TA to request an itemized breakdown of the cost of the trip to prove their math, but apparently Air Transat isn't willing to do that. Can any of the Canadian TA's chime in on the rules for breaking out additional fees from the base price? @@TAPreety @TADarci Hoping someone here can help me get my additional $668 owed to me....

Question: Should I plan a trip to my destination wedding location prior to the Big Day? If so, how many visits would you advise? Answer: According to Preety Jaswal, Destination Wedding Specialist of Platinum Travel & Destination Weddings: "You can always plan a trip to view a few resorts if you have not yet decided on your final choice. This is great if you have not been to that destination or if you're not familiar with all-inclusive resorts. Your travel agent can help arrange this with transportation to view a couple over a period of a few days. If you have booked your wedding date then the resort can arrange meetings with vendors & a tasting (if arranged ahead of time) during your visit of a couple nights. Your 3-night stay can either be at a discounted price or if booked at regular price, then it may be deducted from you master account for your wedding. Every resort varies but most have options available. I would recommend if you have the option to visit definitely go once - whether to determine which resort works best or if you have your resort booked then to meet with the vendors. Both will help tremendously with your wedding plans and ease any stress of the unknown. Not all of my clients do not have the means to do this so trust the choice they made and rely on their travel agent to help understand the resort options and wedding locations. If you are unable to travel prior to your wedding then I would highly recommend for the couple to arrive at the resort a few days prior to their guests the same week of their wedding to go over everything in person in destination." - - - If you have a question you'd like us to "Ask the Expert" message me (MarieSamSanchezPhoto) and we'll feature your question and answer on a future post! Question: What Kind of Budget Should I Set Aside When Planning an Indian Destination Wedding? Answer: According to Preety Jaswal, Destination Wedding Specialist of Platinum Travel & Destination Weddings: "This all depends on the guest count, how many events the couple will have, how elaborate each event should be and what vendors they will bring to their destination. For most Indian weddings, the couple may bring down their own DJ, photographer/videographer, Priest, and sometimes makeup artist. All of these play a huge factor in wedding costs." - - - If you have a question you'd like us to "Ask the Expert" message me (MarieSamSanchezPhoto) and we'll feature your question and answer on a future post! Question: Does a travel agent help with just lodging, or can they help with transportation, airfare and other trip details as well? Answer: According to Agent Wendy of Wright Travel Agency -- the official travel agency of BDW: "Agents can certainly assist with not only a guest's stay, but also quite typically will assist in booking transfers from airport to resort, and airfare, as well if desired. Agents can also assist with booking optional tours and excursions for guests while they are onsite. An agent who is well versed in the area a client wishes to visit can also suggest local sites, museums, day trips or restaurants that should not be missed." Looking for a Travel Agent? Q & A: Do You Have to Pay a Fee to Use a Travel Agent?
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
Question: Do You Have to Pay a Fee to Use a Travel Agent? Answer: According to agent Wendy H. of Wright Travel Agency -- the official travel agency of BDW: "Depending on the agent and agency individual policy, there may be a service fee for using a travel agent. Agents are paid a commission by the Cruise lines, tour operators, and hotels they book for their clients at the completion of travel. Often agent/agency fees (if charged) are dependent on the complexity of the itinerary being worked up for a client. I personally have not ever charged a fee, as I have not found it to be necessary, however for an agent who is working on planning a month long European trip, including transfers, individual hotels, train, and sightseeing for a client, the investment of the agent's time can be quite considerable and an initial request for deposit to be credited towards the trip or even a pure service fee would not be out of the ordinary or unusual." Agent Patty J. also of Wright Travel Agency adds: "We do not charge any service fees for our services and we're paid by the supplier once travel is complete. This means we are basically working for free up until a client travels. If a client should happen to cancel we typically do not make something on the booking or for our time." Part 1: Ways to Save When Planning Your Destination Wedding
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
Let's face it. Weddings are expensive! And when you factor in the costs of travel/lodging destination weddings can be REALLY expensive. But having been married for close to six years now after having an epic destination wedding in Akumal, Mexico, I can tell you that had I opted for a local wedding here in Southern California, the wedding bill probably would have been triple what was spent in Mexico. And I wouldn't have glorious beach photos to go with it All that said, here are a few ways you can cut down on the costs of planning a destination wedding. Use all or some of these ideas, but most of all, choose what works best for you. And if you have any other suggestions to give, please share them in the comments section!!! -- Consider Time of Year: If you aren't dead set on a particular wedding date, consider the fluctuating costs of airfare/lodging based on the time of year. With a little research, you'll soon find that picking the right time of year (the low travel season) can save you hundreds, if not thousands, on travel and accommodations. -- Research Resort/Wedding Deals: With destination weddings becoming more and more popular, resorts in popular areas are offering a lot more promotions and discounts/deals to draw in potential brides and grooms. Reach out to a travel agent and see if they have the scoop on any awesome travel promotions. The official travel agency for the BDW wedding forum, Wright Travel Agency, is constantly in the loop when it comes to incredible deals for destination wedding couples. And guess what, when you turn to their expertise and book your travel plans through Wright Travel, it doesn't cost you anything extra, but you will certainly rack up on the savings! (Click here for a list of travel promotions and deals posted in the BDW forum). -- Cut the DJ, Use an iPod: If having a great DJ isn't on your "Must Have" list, then think about using an iPod programmed with your favorite songs instead. Yes it will take some time to load up an awesome playlist and you'll need to confirm with your reception venue that they have the equipment to play your iPod, but if you're willing to do the work ahead of time, it can really cut back on the costs. Check back soon for the next installment of Ways to Save! - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009.
