My fiancee and I were originally planning to do an ipod wedding for our small group to save on costs. However, we changed our minds and decided to go with a DJ after all as we don't think we have the time to put together a playlist and no one in our group is tech savvy enough to jump in if there are any ipod problems at the reception. We've selected DJ Max through Karisma but haven't been able to locate any reviews whatsoever. Are there any past Karisma or Azul brides that used DJ Max and have comments? FYI - We are a bit of an older group that likes classic rock, etc. Any feedback (no matter how brief!) would be greatly appreciated!

Hello All, I’ll be getting married at Excellence PLaya Mujeres in 2 months with 60 of our family/friends! I was wondering if anyone has gotten married there and could offer some advice… We visited the resort almost a year ago and had an amazing time and the wedding coordinator has been extremely helpful. Previous EPM brides, did you do the violinst that is included in the package during cocktail hour? If so, were you able to choose the songs that were played or were they mainly Mexican songs? I am going to walk down the aisle to a violinist – I was told the violinist would learn the song I wanted to play for me. Wondering if anyone did this and how it turned out or if its better to just play something with the speaker. Did you have a First look? We are still debating on this, but wondering if we will have enough time to take pics in between/during cocktail hour as we do not want to miss too much but also aren’t crazy about having hundreds of photos taken. We will have a 1 hour welcome/cocktail party that is included with our package... I heard about the catamaran and other activities to do, if anyone has pictures or advice regarding this we are open on whether to change the cocktail/welcome party to something more fun. Any additional advice is always appreciated Thanks everyone! <3

Hi everyone! My fiance and I are booked for our wedding at Azul Beach in April 2017. I am having a hard time deciding the DJ/Entertaintment. Lomas travel gives only two options DJ Max or DJ Mixx. There are no videos, reviews (that I can find) or information besides a list of equipment that they each bring. I emailed with them and they can't provide any sound or videos of past weddings they've done. I am super nervous about choosing one of them without having any references or ideas of what to expect. Does anyone have an insight on this vendor situation? I would so appreciate any feedback!

Hello, Does anyone have any information on the band that's available for weddings at Dreams Tulum? We'd love to have a band, but are worried about shelling out $4k for a subpar house band!

Hey all, I know this is unusual because I am the groom and usually the bride is the one joining these forums but I want to be involved in the wedding preps and I have taken the responsibility dealing with photos, video, music of having my fiancé deal with decorations and gifts. I am having her deal with decorations. We have chosen the resorts Ultimate Wedding Package and we are getting married June 2017 If anyone has gotten married at Dreams Palm Beach, whether it has been recently or in the past several months to a year, any and all help is very much appreciated. I have read several reviews and got mixed feelings. It has been 50/50 with photographers and videographers. I know that our package includes photos album and a video. Photographer/Photos-many people on other sites have said that they were happy with the Moe photos that were taken by Adventure Photos which is on site. Also, with the same company, several people had an issue when they tried to choose their photos saying that they were told by that company that they had to pay for the photos even when they were included in the wedding package. Several other people also said that they opted to hire an outside photographer and videographer because both photos and video turned out more amazing. If anyone has chosen to choose Adventure Photos from the resort as their photographer for their wedding, any help will do. Video/Videographer-pretty much the same thing as above. I was reading on our package that our video will include ceremony only and not photo session and reception. If you happened to also use videographer provided by the resort, any help and information will be appreciated. Music-pretty much every said that they went with DJ Mannia. Do I have to book him separately or does my wedding coordinator automatically book him when we tell them that we choose to have a DJ? Thanks for taking the time to read and help out!!! Any suggestions on which companies for photo and video very much appreciated!

Hi! I was hoping someone might have advice on pricing negotiations with vendors, Mexico specifically. I have read that many vendors will quote a little higher expecting you to barter. In particular, currently we are trying to book our Audio/visual equipment supplier and lighting. One company provided a fast quote with an invoice attached almost right away. A second vendor made us arrange to speak over the phone, went through their whole catalog and then came up with a price list that in some cases is over double the first vendor (eg. $600 for string lights vs. $1400). I did initially balk at these prices and honestly admitted they were higher than I was hoping to pay but the vendor insisted these were only individual prices and once we pick out a package of items we need (lights, DJ, dancefloor etc) the package price would be lower. Long story short, of course it seems obvious to book with the first vendor, whose prices seemed so transparent and competitive. But now am I expected to barter with them? We are on a tight budget but I am not opposed to paying the original quote, just not sure if in actuality I would be getting ripped off for not asking for a lower price. Help! I hate this kind of stuff

Hi everyone, my sister is getting married in Italy next year and I as chief bridesmaid ( gofer / wedding organiser lol ) I have been ropped in to helping find, reputable wedding suppliers, who specialise in wedding's abroad and destination weddings. We have found our photographer , who I booked for my wedding. I know he is reliable and the travel etc will not be a problem. I am looking to find some musicians who are willing to travel out to Tuscanny, as the in house bands and dj are not really to my sister ( or my taste ) Any ideas out there, for any bands, singers, musicians who are used to performing at wedding's abroad and the travel and logistics won't faze them?… thanks in advance!!! xxx

Hi everyone I am getting married at the Grand Lucayan Hotel on Grand Bahama in April 2017 and I am looking to hire a musician or band for an hour or two for either the cocktail reception or ceremony. Ideally I am looking for a steel drum player or band but I am open to any other types of musicians that come recommended for a wedding. Any recommendations gratefully received! Georgie

Hello everyone! My name is LaTayia but I go by Tia. My fiance and I were recently engaged on May 22nd. We are extremely interested in a destination wedding and have decided to have it in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. We took our first international trip together there and thought it would be really nice to go back to where we started. Currently I am interested in having it at Paradisus Playa Del Carmen because that is where we stayed our first trip and since we have young children coming I felt it would be the best option since there is an adults only and a family side. After looking at the website the tailor made option seems to be the best fit for us. We plan to get married June 2, 2018 so I know it's a little early to actually book everything but I would definitely love any advice you all are able to offer. There will be about 40 or so people in attendance. I have a few questions that hopefully someone may be able to address: 1) When it comes to booking the resort for a wedding, do you have to pay a down payment or do you pay in full? 2) How does making room reservations work? Each couple that will be coming will be paying for their own rooms so do we just tell the hotel how many rooms we will need and then the block them out? Or do my fiance and I have to make a payment to reserve the rooms? 3) If in the event that it rains, where do they have the ceremonies? 4) Is there anything that we are not permitted to bring to the resort? Such as a unity candle or remembrance candles for loved ones who are no longer with us? A related question is, has anyone packed the knives to cut the cake with in their luggage? 5) Can anyone offer any information about how much each package costs? I know I can call the resort and ask but I am curious to know the range in which others have paid. 6) Does the DJ that is recommended by the resort play all types of music/can you request him to play certain songs? 7) For those who have had their hair and makeup done at the spa, how did you like it? Do they specialize in all hair types and complexions? 8) If anyone could give their experiences on the ease or trouble they went through when planning their wedding at this resort went that would be great! I know I have asked a lot of questions here but I am just really excited! lol Thank you in advance for all of your help

Such a simple question but I need help! Every wedding I've ever been to has music playing at the cocktail hour. However, the DJ is just setting up and such, not really "DJ'ing" too much. Are you all hiring a DJ to start during cocktail or to start at the beginning of the reception? I hate to pay a whole hour for him to sit and play simple music for cocktail hour. But I also can't imagine a quiet/music-less cocktail hour either! Opinions? Thanks!

Hello Beautiful Brides (and maybe some helpful husbands too ), While I have been preparing everything to leave for our wedding in less than two weeks and getting all of the details together, it's struck me how much posts from women on this forum have helped me! You've provided creative ideas and invaluable advice and suggestions so although I've never been the girl planning my wedding since I was 12 (or honestly even since about 10 months ago!), I want to give back. My finance, Matt, and I are getting married at the El Dorado Royale Resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico on November 13, 2015 and are SOOO excited! Throughout the planning process we've definitely learned a few things of what to do and what not to do. The lists below summarize my current 2-weeks out suggestions, but I'm sure they will change after we return. Our Do Nots: 1) Tell everyone your wedding plans as they're still forming. We knew we wanted to have a destination wedding and luckily even knew which resort we wanted, but THAT's IT. From the moment we got engaged the questions were endless and we ended up just confusing everyone more than anything. 2) If you're working with a travel agency or the resort's wedding planning services, DON'T hesitate to request a new representative to work with if you're not happy with the service you've been receiving. We worked with DestinationWeddings.com and El Dorado Royale uses Lomas Travel/Weddings to coordinate the weddings at the resort. Brenda, our rep for DestinationWeddings was very sweet and caring, but very scatterbrained and really screwed up some of our reservations, but most importantly, messed up quite a few of our guests payments and flight information. Marisol was our rep through Lomas Weddings and we had endless communication issues with her in addition to messing up quite a few things on the official arrangements spreadsheets. So I was CONSTANTLY double checking and correcting her work. 3) Get so caught up in the details that you forget how awesome celebrating your wedding with your closest friends and family in tropical paradise will be!! Our Dos: 1) Have a meaningful conversation with your fiancé about what is important to each of you for the wedding ceremony, reception, and everything else leading up. Matt and I were on the same page with many things, but we both assumed the other wanted a reception back in the US and were totally stressed about planning it. During a road trip we both admitted how much we were dreading planning and paying for it and were SO relieved to realized we actually both wanted the same thing! 2) Pick your location and date as soon as possible! (but don't rush into a decision you're not sure or excited about) You'll have more choices of dates, times, and locations within the resort the sooner you book. Checking out the resort in person removes so much stress from planning. We went to EDR on vacation a year and a half ago and KNEW it was the place we wanted to get married eventually 3) Send out some type of save the date as far in advance as possible along with estimated cost. We have quite a few quests that would not have been able to attend or afford it on short notice. I sent out a save-the-date e-mail about 8 months in advance along with information about the resort and pricing and most importantly, deadlines for booking and payments. 4) Have a small wedding party. Personally, we felt that asking our friends to be bridesmaids/groomsmen would almost force them to buy their way down to Mexico since we are unable to pay for everyone's trip ourselves. So it's just going to be my sister as my Maid of Honor and his brother as his Best Man. It worked out great that we each have 1 sibling! Bonus - It's Wayyyy easier to coordinate two people than 6, 8, 10… etc! I'll add more of the details to this feed as I get to it, and take some pictures of our OOT bags, the itineraries and welcome letter I made!

Has anyone used DJ Encore? He is the only DJ that Juan Carlos can recommend for Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun but I cannot find any reviews on him. I have seen reviews for other DJ's used at our venue but none for their "house DJ." Please feel free to leave any recommendations for other DJ's as well! We booked DJ Ricardo about 5 months prior to our Cabo wedding and were immediately impressed with his prompt communication via email. We decided to visit Cabo a couple months before our July wedding to check out our venue and Ricardo was flexible enough to meet with us during our stay so we could tell him about our music style and expectations. He was friendly and patient with all my questions. He even demonstrated his MC style a little bit for me on the spot after I asked him to give me an idea of how he interacts with the crowd. We sent him all our song requests about two weeks before the wedding in an easy template he provided via email. Fast forward a few months to the wedding night and the music could not have been more SPOT ON. We received several compliments from guests about how awesome the music was. People danced for two hours straight! We also loved the way he handled the married couples dance that we chose to do instead of the bouquet toss. And we were impressed that he knew exactly how to handle it when country music came on and people stopped dancing. He transitioned the music into something more upbeat on our list to get people back on the dance floor -- just like he told us he would. I knew music could make or break the fun and Ricardo got every moment right, from start to finish!

This hotel is beautiful and the staff make it worth the money. My wedding was fantastic. I want to give a huge thanks to Chandlyn, Jodi Ann, Paul from the wedding department, Timroy and Stacey Ann Lewis my butlers during my stay and Peter Brown the Bell man. Oh and Kamal Simms for a wonderful experience at the Royalton. From the moment I arrived they took great care of me and my now husband. Our server Dr. Love, lol; who took care of our romantic beach dinner was fantastic. Overall the ground staff was great. My wedding was beautiful. The spa was accommodating and I looked gorgeous. Trust me when I say once you arrive the staff in Jamaica provide a excellent service. The resort is beautiful. My only complaint would be dealing with Stacey Ingram in reservations and Laura Erikson the wedding coordinator in Canada. Laura did not provide accurate information and therefore we overspent. Contact the hotel directly, if you can future brides. Don't listen to what wedding agency tell you over the phone. They don't know what the hotel provides. Every single last person from the groom to ALL the guests were furious with her service. She didn't respond to requests for room reservations and mis calculated the cost of wedding reservations on several occasions. We had to correct her. We emailed the general manager Mr. Pizzuti and the wedding department staff and special thanks to them for my day memorable. Stacey and Laura literally had me in tears due to the poor service provided. I want to say special thanks to Elite Media Concepts for providing such great service! They provided DJ and Cinematography services. They were well organized and accommodating! They emailed a few questionnaires for song selections, genre of music, etc. The questionnaires were great didn't expect it. They got a chance to know our likes and dislikes. Any questions or concern I had, they were a call/email away and someone replied right way. On the the day of the wedding... They arrived early introduced themselves, go over pretty much everything we told them we wanted to capture and any last min. changes. I was very impress with the team. A+ all around! The DJ's were fantastic, they made our guests dance and enjoyed our reception. My husband deejay part time and he's very selective when it comes on to DJ's. He didn't stop talking about their setup and music selection and how they had ALL our guests on the dance floor. GREAT JOB ELITE MEDIA CONCEPTS!!! The wedding planning started off rocky with with lack of communication and incorrect info from the royalton coordinators, but the staff at the hotel was great and made our stay unforgettable. Our reception was fantastic thanks to Elite media.

"Don't just do a regular First Dance, that's so booooorrrrrriiinggggg!" Yes that's what my own mother told me as we were planning our Wedding. She urged, no actually pretty much begged, that we do something fun to surprise our guests. Well, little did she know we had already been planning to do a surprise dance, but in order for it to be a true surprise, I had to keep it a secret from her too. So instead, I did my best to make her believe a surprise dance was just too time consuming to plan and I just didn't have time for it. Let me tell you -- mama was disappointed LOL. But lo and behold, because we flew into Mexico a week before our wedding, we were able to spend a few nights choreographing and practicing our first dance surprise in our room when everyone was asleep (we stayed in a villa property that housed 30 members of our family). My husband and teenage daughter even spent about an hour in the pool teaching me how to Dougie (hahahaha, I'm serious!). And guess what, when the time came to do our first dance, I remember seeing my mom at the corner of my eye kinda roll her eyes and pout in her seat because according to her, we were just "so booooorrrriinnnnggggg." But when our slow dance music cut into some booty shaking music and we broke out into our routine, all of our guests went wild -- including mama, she was probably cheering the loudest. Yes, we gave them a show and it was pretty darn awesome to see everyone cheering and giving us a standing ovation. I say all this because if you're contemplating the idea of doing a surprise First Dance -- JUST DO IT. It will honestly be the best gift you can give your guests and well, the photos and video will be priceless for decades to come! Click here to see some surprise first dance inspiration on YouTube! We tossed around the idea back and forth -- do we do a money dance at our wedding or not? Ironically it was my parents and my aunts and uncles who strongly said, "Yes, it's a tradition!" My family urged me that it was a custom at Filipino weddings. Of course, my hubby-to-be didn't balk at the thought of being pinned with bills by our guests. You get decorated with bills just for dancing with your guests? Heck yeah, he was all for it LOL. But there was always a feeling of guilt when we thought about the money that our guests were already spending (travel, lodging, vacation expenses, etc.) just to be a part of our special celebration. (By the way, I've dubbed these guilty feelings as "Destination Wedding Expense Guilt" aka DWEG syndrome -- it exists I tell you in the minds of brides and grooms, the struggle is real!) In the end, we decided to go ahead and do the money dance. But guess what? When it came down to the night of our wedding reception, we didn't do it. Why? Not because we let DWEG get to us, but rather, we were having so much fun just enjoying the night, we nixed a lot of wedding traditions -- no bouquet toss, no garter toss and no money dance. Instead we danced, drank and celebrated the night away. And ... IT. WAS. AWESOME! I say all this because sometimes we stress over every little detail that comes with the Wedding Day. And in the end, I promise you, none of it really even matters. What is ultimately important is that you celebrate the day and fill it with love, laughter and moments you'll always remember. Love your Wedding Day and enjoy it to the fullest -- this is the only tradition that truly matters Are you planning to do a Money Dance at your wedding? - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009.
