No Camera Policy for Wedding?

Recommended Posts

I read this article today about how couples are opting to have "unplugged weddings" and asking their guests to leave their cameras and camera phones at home (or turned off) so that everyone can just be free to enjoy themselves and be in the moment with the bride and groom. Also, these "guest photographers" would create terrible photos for the professionals (the article provides some examples)!

Is anyone considering "unplugging" their wedding? What are your thoughts?

I've thought about it. I think I might do an unplugged ceremony.  I would be pretty upset if the photographer I'm paying was unable to get some of the most important images, while somebody grabbed an iphone pic instead, and quite honestly I don't want to be distracted at the alter by a lot of people getting up and down and moving around during the ceremony.

Before reading the article I was thinking to myself-"what's the big deal...who cares?!?!". After reading the article and seeing the examples of guests ruining precious moments I'm considering going "unplugged" too. My wedding will be outside so a flash ruining a pic would be unlikely. I don't want guest standing and taking cell phone pics in my professional photos. Thanks for sharing the article!

it's a great idea! I wish we had done this.

my photographer mentioned she nearly knocked over a particular guest who was pretty aggressively taking photos to get him out of her frame. of course, it turns out he was taking video, and stitched our whole ceremony together for us - so I can't be too upset about it!

Great idea about unplugging the ceremony only! Perhaps we'll consider doing that. I think a lot of my friends are more interested in taking pictures of themselves anyway (rather than me and the ceremony) since they'll be dressed up and in paradise! Haha! It would make sense to allow them to take photos during the reception. It certainly is something to think about though!

I posted this article in a different thread a couple of days ago too! :) I am definitely considering going unplugged for the ceremony portion. Not really the reception, but definitely ceremony.

I did it for the ceremony only and I basically let everyone know about it in my pre-travel brochures. I am SOOO GLAD I did it! Everyone respected our request and they were fine with it. I also let them know not to post photos they took from the wedding on Facebook or any other social media sites until we released some of our pro photos on there.   People were really good with that as well. They didn't post anything and even after I posted our photos, they asked if it was okay to share some of their photos as well.  I have wonderful friends and family! I was really happy they respected our wishes and I would advise if you are considering it, to let them know of your wishes in advance.

Can I ask why? Professional photos take so long, I'm expecting the guest photos to tide me over until I get the real ones lol.

But if that is what you guys want, I don't think it's rude to ask or anything :)

I've heard of people doing it because they want to control what pictures are being shared. Like you don't want a crappy photo of you and your husband to hit the net before the ceremony is even over. Maybe not wait until professional photos get back, but more so control what is shared on your day. It's more or less that you're paying all this money to have a professional photographer and you have your friends and family taking not so flattering untouched photos of you on your day. I'm still not really sure about it. Just a thought :)
