There are three main types of Wedding Ceremonies that can be performed: Legal, Religious and Symbolic.

CIVIL/LEGAL CEREMONY

This ceremony type is available 7 days a week, at any hour you choose. If you want your marriage recognized as legal at home you must have civil ceremony, but you can combine this official portion of the ceremony with a religious ceremony if you choose. Although civil marriages performed in Mexico are legal in Mexico, you must legalize your marriage in your country of birth/residence. Do this by registering your marriage certificate at your local City Hall when you return home.

Requirements

Valid Passport: Passports are required to enter Mexico and are also mandatory for a legal wedding to be performed. Passports must be presented to the On-Site Wedding Coordinator at the time of the wedding consultation.

Tourist Card: These are provided on the plane prior to arrival into Cancun International Airport. Names on tourist card and passport MUST be the same.

Advanced Hotel Stay: Bride and Groom must arrive at their hotel three business days prior to the legal wedding ceremony date in order to complete the blood tests and process the necessary documents. Saturday, Sunday and Mexican holidays are not considered working days.

A Civil Ceremony Form filled out (available through your Wedding Coordinator) indicating witnesses name, age, nationality, home address and occupation.

Additional documentation
If the groom is divorced no additional documentation is needed.

If the bride is divorced (at least a year must have passed before she can remarry) and her passport is under her maiden name no additional documentation is needed.

If the bride is divorced and her passport is under her ex-husband's last name, then she must present her Birth Certificate and Divorce Certificate translated into Spanish by an Official Translator and should have an Apostille Seal. The Apostille Seal is necessary when issuing a document from one country to another for legal purposes. For information on how to obtain the Apostille Seal, please contact the Secretary of State Office or visit:
http://travel.state.gov/law/judicial/judicial_2545.html (US residents)

The United States Department of State requires that all Weddings Certificates from ceremonies performed in the Caribbean, including Mexico, have the Apostille Seal. This procedure can be done by our Wedding Coordinators with an additional fee of $250 USD. By requesting this service you receive: an extra copy of your wedding certificate, the apostille seal, translation into English and FedEx delivery to your home address, usually between 30 to 45 days after the ceremony.

If a bride or groom's former spouse is deceased then a copy of the Death Certificate is required.

Health Certificate Mexican laws require a Health Certificate for all Legal Wedding Ceremonies. Blood tests are done to determine blood type, HIV and STD status. Tests must be taken at the resort and results are ready within 24 hours. Approximately cost is $250 USD per couple (unless stated as an inclusion in your wedding package).

Witnesses: Legal Wedding Ceremonies require four witnesses.
If the wedding couple provides their own witnesses the following is needed; if not the Hotel will provide at no extra cost.

Valid passport or driver's license.

Tourist Card.

Witnesses must arrive at the hotel three business days prior to the legal wedding ceremony date in order to complete the legal document process.

Witnesses must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the ceremony.

RELIGIOUS/ CATHOLIC
Catholic ceremonies are available alone or in conjunction with civil ceremonies and can only be held inside a Chapel or Church.

Requirements

An additional fee of $600 USD
The following documents must be presented for both Bride and Groom: Birth Certificates, Baptism Certificates, Confirmation Certificates and a letter issued by the Local Priest, addressed to the Priest in Cancun, allowing them to marry in Mexico. These documents must be received by Lomas Travel three months prior to the Wedding Date.

SYMBOLIC CEREMONY
This ceremony is not recognized as legal in Mexico or your home country. Preferred by couples already married and wishing to have a wedding ceremony, those thinking of a legal ceremony at a later date or those wishing to renew vows with their loved one. It is typically performed by a Non-Denominational, but can also be performed, for an additional fee, by a Religious Officiant. Some ministers speak English and for those that do not, the service is translated into English by our professional Wedding Coordinators.

Requirements

Advanced Hotel Stay: Bride and Groom must arrive at their hotel one full business day prior to the ceremony; for Example if your ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, your arrival date must be no later than Thursday as Saturday and Sunday are not considered business days.

Important information:

Wedding consultations: Consultations are held at the resort from Monday to Saturday. You will be notified of your consultation appointment with the onsite wedding coordinators when you check in. This meeting canâ€t be rescheduled, and is usually set for the day following your arrival. This is when you go over the details of your wedding – everything you confirmed and decided with your Lomas wedding coordinator. You will confirm that itâ€s all correct, or make any needed changes at this time. Bring any decorations or items you brought with you to this meeting.

Schedule
Weddings are performed seven days a week except on Mexican holidays (January 1st; February 5th; Easter weekend; May 1st and 5th; September 15th and 16th; November 1st, 2nd and 20th; December 12th, 24th, 25th and 31st).

Wedding time must be requested based on daytime savings:

April through September - Every hour from 11 am to 6 pm

October through March - Every hour from 11 am to 5 pm.

For Legal Ceremonies, please consider the Mexican Holidays when reserving your wedding date as they will not be included in the three-day requirement.

Confirmations: In order to confirm a wedding day and time you must: With a limited number of weddings per day, be sure to book well in advance. Once you've selected your wedding date and hotel, send us your Wedding Reservation Form to inquire about availability. We'll acknowledge receipt of your form within 24 hours, and then confirm date, time and officiant availability within another 48 hours. A $200.00 usd non-refundable deposit will be required in order to secure your confirmed date & time.

You may also choose a Jewish ceremony, or a Sikh wedding ceremony. Additional information regarding these two ceremony types is available here

Group Dinner (included in several of the wedding packages):

Most wedding packages include a dinner package at the Cocotal restaurant for up to 40 people (additional charge for extra guests). If Cocotal is not available, your wedding coordinator will provide you with other options.

This is a semi-private dinner, meaning the restaurant is also open to other guests. You will be seated together, in the same area (we had 4 large tables of 8 in the back of the restaurant). Seating times are also limited.

You will choose one appetizer, one salad, two entrees and one dessert ahead of time for your guests from the Cocotal Restaurant's menu.

The resort will print custom menus for you, and your guests can choose their entrees when seated. If you have guests with dietary restrictions, be sure to mention that to your wedding coordinator ahead of time (vegetarian, gluten free, etc.). Depending on the # of guests with dietary restrictions, and at the resort's discretion, you may be able to have an additional entree selection to meet those needs.

Private Events

If you wish to have cocktails, and/or a reception at a different location than the group dinner you are required to host a private event. You can choose cocktails, brunch, lunch or dinner events (or any combination you dream of!).
