What is everyone's thought on a bridal shower with a destination wedding?

Hey lady! I am having a shower. One fun idea for a DW is to have a shower with a travel theme, and register on honeyfund.com for excursions, money to go toward airline tickets, spa treatments, room upgrades, etc. for your honeymoon (or if you're wrapping your honeymoon into the wedding). People can also bring you related gifts like gift certificates for travel gear. The other good thing about honeyfund is you can also add items like contributions towards things like house down payments, etc. and there is a space uptop to write a nice little note about how "you have most of the home items you need already, except the big things..."  You get to pick the amounts of the gifts towards the goal (for example, 10 $10 gifts could be available to go toward something that costs $100). That way people may be giving you money, but they (hypothetically) are picking what you use it toward - even though you really have free reign. It feels more personal for some people I think.

We also registered at MyRegistry.com for those more old-fashioned people who have to buy an actual gift. It allows you to pull any item from all over the internet onto one registry, so that you don't get stuck just registering at Bed, Bath and Beyond, etc. if you really just need one or two items from all over. Ours has everything from luggage, to dishes, to camping gear on it.

I am also having a shower. Even though we have been living together for a couple years it is a way for people to still feel involved in your wedding even though they may not make the trip to the destination. We did register at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond, although the honeyfund does sound like a good idea!!

One of the things someone said to me when I was thinking about not registering is that you may have most of the things that you have a registry but will those last the next 15 years?

I'm completely ambivalent about it. A friend of mine wants to throw a small one for some friends here in town - none of them are going with us to Mexico. So I'll let her do that. I'm not having her invite everyone I know though, just keep it small and fairly inexpensive.

I put a lot of thought into it and have decided not to have one. My bridesmaids and guests are already spending some much i don't want them to have to spend more. We already own a house and have a child so I didn't really feel like we needed it. That being said I definitely don't think that there is anything wrong with having one at all. It just wasn't right for us.

I so think like you!  Except I'm fairly certain this one is out of my hands and my friends/mom/aunts aren't going to let me not have one!  Not sure how I'm going to handle this..

I'm having two - one thrown by the bridal party (tropical martini night theme) which is really more of a girls night out type idea with fun drinks and snacks.  I am saving all the traditional shower stuff (games, watching bride open presents etc) for my family shower which is being thrown by my aunts.  I wasn't sure if I wanted a shower but both of these groups insisted on it.

I know what you mean! How do you tell them you don't think it's appropriate to ask people to spend MORE money :(

Having a Pampered Chef shower is a really good idea.  Basically you get the 'host' incentives from what people buy for themselves from pampered chef.  For those who haven't been to a Pampered Chef party before;  basically go online and search Pampered chef; a consultant in your area will be suggested on the website and you "register" for her to do a show for you.  She will come out and make a few food items using the product and than everyone will have a chance to order product from the catalog.  Whatever people order you will get a percentage of sales towards stuff for yourself at a discounted price.  You can also have a wish list of stuff you would like from Pampered Chef and your guests can choose weather or not they would like to purchase something from that list for you.  Pampered Chef product is AMAZING and I love it :)
