Dress?? 2nd wedding...formal or not??

Recommended Posts

I am really stressing about this dress thing. I first thought I would walk into a department store and find a nice beachy/ gauze dress and spend $75.00 and be done!! First off I have found nothing at all!!! Second the more photos I look at the more I see very formal type wedding dresses and think maybe I should step it up a bit!! Now I have found a long halter style dress from Davids Bridal, it is much more then I wanted in the first place, and cost three times as much also. This is a second wedding and I am 42! Should I even be wearing a dress like thathuh.gif Any advice, I am running out of time!!!

Be careful who you ask....there are multiple dress brides around here. *sigh* and I think I'm about to become one of them. I am completely torn between two dresses, one is traditional and the other is exotic.

I think you need to wear whatever will make you feel like a princess. First, second, third wedding, whatever-your wedding day is your day to feel like a million bucks. Don't worry about what is appropriate or what you should or shouldn't wear.

Good luck - I hope that helps. Now, if I can only follow my own advice.

Mary, I feel your pain. I am 47 years old. Before I found this site I was set on a Marilyn Munroe type of dress total cost about 100.00. Well then I started seeing all the beautiful dress on here. Then my search began, I decided on short but with beading, oh but it did not end there, I then found Maggie Sottero and fell in love. I am not getting a Maggie thou but I have decided on the goddess style dress. I searched David's bridal online site and found what I thought was my dress. I took the trip to Buffalo and fell in love with another dress that was on a manaquin.

So my answer to you is go for the dress from David's bridal.

Hi Mary -

This is both mine and my FI's second wedding. We will be 40 & 41 when we get married. At first I didn't think I wanted anything too "bridey", but when I started looking, I decided it's my wedding and I want to be a BRIDE! I bought a wedding dress...try stuff on and see how you feel. Wear what makes you happy. It's your wedding...you get to decide what you wear.

Hope that helps!

Michele

Wear what makes YOU happy!

When i first went dress shopping I had a strict budget and image in my mind. I refused to spend more than $500 on a DW dress and it had to be beachy and flowy. Well, i bought that dress.

I ended up LOATHING that dress. I seriously hated it. And although other people liked it, it was MY wedding day and I needed to feel good and beautiful. So, I ended up spending more than double what I had originally said because I finally let myself buy the dress that I wanted that was perfect for me.

It wasn't necessarily a BEACH dress, but it looked beautiful on me (If I do say so myself) and it photographed gorgeously...

So, do what makes YOU happy!

While I agree with the others that you should wear what you want to wear, I don't think you should let other pictures persuade you to do something different than what you had planned. This will be my second wedding too, so I'm sure you too understand that a marriage is not about the wedding day. I chose a destination wedding for this specific reason! What I mean is that the rest of your life with your best friend is not going to change whether you wear a beach dress or a formal wedding dress. Yes, it's your day and you should feel special, but my advice would be to not get too caught up in the specifics of the wedding. It is just the first day of the rest of your lives together and what you wear for an hour will make no difference 5 years from now! I hope that is not too cynical, but I learned alot from my first marriage/wedding. Most of the details of that one particular day will be forgotten in less than a year!

Good luck in your search and I'm sure you will love your destination wedding no matter what!

I think you should find a dress you love and makes you feel beautiful. That is the dress you want. It's your opinion that matters most. You want to look at your pictures and see someone that is happy and confident. Thats why you have to love what your wearing and how you look in it. It is you that is going to wear it and have to live with it. Take what others say with a grain of salt, It is your vision of that day that matters not theirs, and they simply misunderstand what your dreams and hopes for the day are. My best advice is stay true to yourself and your FI.

Good Luck. I know I feel like this is the hardest decision to make. All the others seem easy!
