Hello All,

I am attempting to book a photographer but the prices seem insane. I know that photographers are expensive but exactly how expensive should it be. I am trying to keep in mind that he is including video coverage. Can anyone shed light on this issue?

Help!!

to be honest, only you can really answer that question... I mean to me I can't fathom paying $100 to have my hair cut and styled but my wife loves to spend money on haircuts.

So to you paying $5k on a wedding photographer might be insane, but to the next bride, she has to have that certain photographer shoot her wedding. Some brides have to have an expensive gown, some not so much....

does that make any sense? Im really tired today

PS... not all photogs are insanely expensive

I would say the first thing you need to do is establish a budget.

You've probably seen lots of prices so shoot for somewhere in the middle. Then make a list of what all is included, video, second photog, lighting, travel, proofs, album, etc. I think once you see what all is included it isn't so bad.

No matter what, I'm sure there is a photographer out there that can work within your budget. Just be sure to thouroughly research your vendor and see lots of samples of his or her work.

I had a local photographer go for the cost of the trip to build her portfolio. Beach weddings are a lot different than normal weddings so I didn't get some of the shots that I really wanted and we had some minor issues with lighting. I also didn't have a second shooter.

Most of the time you get what you pay for.

Good Luck!

We booked a local photographer for our wedding. We thought the cost was a little crazy, but we both "tinker" with photography, so it was really important to me to have a really good photographer. So, we were willing to pay more.

We ended up spent more than planned, but were happy with the deal. Of course I suffered a little buyer's remorse after we booked. But, when I broke down what we are getting - two photographers for 9 hours, travel, an engagement session, a photo guest book (from E session), CD of all pictures, 400 4x6 prints, our book, plus two parent's books, I think we ended up with a pretty good deal.

I actually compared it to what I would have spent to having one resort photographer for four to five hours and coming home and paying a local photographer to do professional books for me and our parents (it will be their gift), I actually saved money.

So, I would agree with other posts: set a budget, determine what is important to you (in terms of a package), and start looking around.
