Pros: Beautiful, Cost-effective, Accomodating
Cons: Nonchalant, Communication

I married my hubby at the Suites on March 12, 2011.  We arrived at the hotel on the 9th and so did most of our guests.  I had 33 people in total and everyone was overwhelmed by the beauty of the hotel.

Check in (A)- We arrived at the hotel at about 12pm, check-in isn't until 3pm however because we are the bride and groom we managed to get into an upgraded (oceanview) room by 1pm.  Our mothers also got upgraded to oceanview to my surprise.  We were greeted in the lobby by mimosas!  There was a fruit plate and bottle of wine waiting in the room, unfortunately nothing to open it with but I wasn't ready to start drinking anyway :-).  The room was nice, but the view was amazing.

Wedding Coordinator (B)- We had a meeting with Nicole later on that day to go through details.  Unfortunately, I was not to happy with this meeting.  I was informed I was not able to have a private reception because I only had 33 people, even though I was willing to pay for the 40.  According to them too many people had already made reservations at the restaurants and couldn't be cancelled.  I was heartbroken, I had already requested a private reception but according to Nicole as soon as my guest number dropped below 40 I was no longer eligible and they start to make reservations for the restaurants. WATCH OUT for this if you are planning on a private reception.  I had decorations and everything.  We ended up doing it in Calabash semi-private as there were about 8-10 other people there. ( I still think they could of made it private, why lose $800 when you can just cancel 4 reservations?)  It still looked beautiful, I didn't even realize they were there, we just did the dances and the toasts in the Music Bar  privately after dinner.  I was just perturbed things didn't go as planned and I think there should of been some communication from Nicole considering she knew I wanted it private.

Food (A)- Everything from Jamaican to Italian and mostly everything was good.  I would stay away from the Mexican restaurant not so great.

Drinks (A+)- They pretty much had everything we requested (and my friends are officianados of alcohol) and they were all strong.

Service (A)- The service was great, room service always came the way we requested and everyone was very attentive.

Spa (A)- The free couple massage was amazing, I almost fell asleep.

Wedding (A)- Amazing, even after the reception issue it all turned out great.  The ceremony was the best part, we then went to dinner at the Calabash which was decorated wonderfully and we moved on down to the Music Bar for our toasts and dances and then to the Disco for the after party!

All in all, Iberostar was a great decision just double check to make sure things go the way you plan!

Congrats girl! I am so happy for you. You look stunning! Beautiful set up and decorations. That stinks that you were not able to have the reception as private. How come this was not verbalized? I have been reading other brides on here able to do a private reception. Is 50 a must at the Gourmet? how long were you allowed to have semiprivate? Did they work something out since the communication was poor? How was the music bar? How much? Did Nicole set up all your decorations?

How is the hair and make up artists? Did you do lashes?

Gorgeous!!!!!!Im getting married at the IRHS Dec. 17th and I want to tell you that your review was vital!!! One thing I was wondering about was your cake. Did you go with the cake the hotel provides(if so how was it), or did you use an outside vendor (if so what vendor)? Your make up looked great. Did she also do your wedding parties make up? How much did she quote you??I'm just like you, I don't wear make-up so I will need someone and come in to make me look FAB! I'm going to check out the facebook page to the make-up artist you used.

Congrats again and many many years of a beautiful marriage!!

Thanks again for the posts. I think you used Marcia for your photos? We booked her as well and are interested in booking her videographer as well. I realize you didn't get your professional pics back yet, but what did you think of her and the videographer's services?

Also, how did the vendor/day pass fee work?

Last question of the night, where did you use your IPOD (ceremony, dinner, cocktail hour)? Did you have to rent the sound system and they had an IPOD connection? Or did you to hire the DJ and he ran the IPOD for you?

Thanks in advance for answering so many questions!

Marcia was great!! I loved her and I'm so excited to see the pics. The videographer was great as well, they did interviews with my whole wedding party. I had to pay for 3 vendor passes. I used the Ipod throughout the reception and the ceremony, the cocktail hr had a saxophonist. I didn't rent anything the DJ handled everything.

I saw where you said they upgrade you guys to an ocean view room. Did you originally have a standard suit room? I have read a couple of reviews where they upgraded the bride and groom to an ocean view. If thats the case I'm thinking of going with the standard and hope we get the upgrade.

I did have a standard initially, I think they base it on the amount of guests you have and availability. I had 31 pp.

Congrats!!!! Did you pay additional fees for the decorations at the cerermony? I have read some reviews saying the wind and sand at the ceremony on the beach caused some problems...did you have issues like this. Did you have a welcome reception or dinner, if so what was the cost? Lastly which restaurant is better Calabash or Aunt Ruby's which one is more formal? Thanks.
