Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa - Luxury All Inclusive
Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa
Flight/Transfer- All of our guests booked with a travel agent in Brooklyn New York that my husband and I have used several times in the past few years. We had guests flying in Saturday, Sunday and Monday and staying for 7 to 8 days. We were booked on Jetblue both ways and used apple vacations transfer buses there and back. I decided to take my dress onto the airplane and ask if they could store it, the flight attendant was really nice and actually spoke to the pilot who came out and took my dress personally and kept it inside with him.
Check In- Checking in was great! We booked an oceanfront jacuzzi junior suite in the tower, so we were immediately escorted to the tower for VIP check in. They gave us drinks and told us it would be about an hour for the room to be ready being that it was only 10 am. We decided to get some food and once we came back 45 minutes later our room was ready. There was a honeymoon sign on the door, the room had flowers and champagne and looked gorgeous.
Restaurants- All of our guests were from New York and have been to some of the best restaurants in New York so I knew we would have some picky eaters. Most of the guests liked the restaurants, however one night we went to the seafood restaurant and I ordered the lobster tail which was $35 extra and filet mignon. The lobster was horrible!!! It tasted like rubber and was so overcooked that it looked like anything but lobster. My husband didn't want to be a pest so we didnt' send it back and he ended up paying for it. Before I left the restaurant I did tell the waiter it was no good. Other than that the restaurants are pretty good, we had mexican night on wednesday by the volleyball area and it was really yummy!
Photographer- We hired someone from New York and paid for his trip to Mexico from Wednesday- Saturday. He gave us a great deal and because we have used him in the past we didn't worry about anything. I do not have any of his pics yet but will post them once they are ready.
Wedding Coordinator- Cecilia was our planner. Communication with her was alright, in the beginning it took her a very long time to answer emails and return calls but it got much better as we got closer to the wedding. I am very picky and I told her that from the beginning, I even apologized and told her I know she knows what she is doing because I had heard great things about her but I wanted to make sure she understood exactly what I wanted. We met with Cecilia, she had all of our emails saved, pictures printed and a new contract to go over. Two weeks before the wedding we had a bunch of stuff mailed to the resort and some of the items (first aid kits, beach paddles) did not make it through customs so I had to reorder them and take them with us. The things that did make it were delivered to her and she paid the taxes up front for us. So I knew we owed her $300 and wanted to give it to her right away. When we sat down we gave her $500 cash right away, $300 for the taxes and $200 for her. She looked surprised and I just told her that I was very happy with her, I know that I could be a pain in the butt and I thanked her for dealing with me for 6 months. haha.
Hair/Makeup- My mother, mother in law and myself had appointments for hair and makeup. My mother in law has short hair so there wasn't much that needed to be done, she was happy with her make up as well. My mother on the other hand was not happy with her updo and ended up canceling her make up because she felt she could do a better job. The ceremony started at 4:30 so my appointment was at 1 for hair and makeup. Honestly, I have read a ton of reviews and everyone seems to always be happy with the hair and make up. I was not happy at all. I actually ran back to my room afterwards and started fixing everything, I stopped the girl Jana while doing my make up, gave her a tip and ran back to try to finish the make up myself. I had a little bit of a panic moment but I think both hair and make up came out really pretty once I fixed it up.
Ceremony- My father in law who is a priest in NY married us in Mexico. Traditional music was played and Cecilia had the songs we wanted so I did not have to provide her with an ipod. The flowers at the Gazebo were $300. I showed Cecilia some pics and honestly I was a tiny bit disappointed in the flower arrangement but everyone else loved it.
It was very windy the day of the wedding so only the aisle rows had yellow sashes, which I bought and brought with me. By the way ladies, I left 60 of them there with Cecilia so if any of you are using Yellow ones make sure you aren't being charged for them because they didn't pay for them. I also left a white aisle runner but the day of the wedding we didn't use it because it was way too windy. We hired a company to fly over the gazebo with a banner that read Congratulations <3 Rachel & Chris <3 for $180. In case you are interested in doing the same the owners name is Eduardo and the email is [email protected], We met with them several days before, gave them cash and they took care of the rest.
The picture doesn't do the ceiling justice ... it was gorgeous! White and yellow sashes across the ceiling and the lighting was phenomenal. Sorry the pics really don't show how gorgeous the lighting was.
DJ: DJ Mannia was awesome! We emailed a playlist with a bunch of italian songs for my husbands side and Jewish songs for my side and he had every one of them. He did a great job! I had taken my ipod with me with all the songs but the day we went to the pyramids I lost it at the caves while swimming and I emailed him a few days before and he told me not to worry about it he would have everything and he DID!!! A++++++++ ... I have a close friend who is a DJ and he was worried that they wouldn't do a good job in Mexico, after the wedding he told me how surprised he was and how great Carlos and his staff were!!
OVERALL: The day was wonderful! Even though the hair and makeup freaked me out in the beginning I really had an amazing time! Our guests loved it and honestly every penny was worth it.
