When my husband and i decided to have a "destination wedding", we researched property on every island and in mexico... a friend of ours told us he'd been to the Banyan Tree Bangkok and that the service, beauty and splendor of the hotel itself was unmatched.  Having just opened about 8 or 9 months before the date we wanted to be married, we were hard pressed to find people who'd been there...  however, the website alone sold us...  although, i don't know that i was wholly convinced that the Banyan Tree could compare to it's photos.  

Upon arrival, I could not have been more wrong.  The Banyan Tree far, far, far surpassed my expectations.  Everything from the moment we arrived at the airport (where we were greeted by a concierge who whisked us (and my wedding dress) through customs and into our private van) to our arrival at the property to our villa.

my husband and i were upgraded to a 2-bedroom beach front villa.  It was astounding.  there are no words for how exquisite this resort was... it was beyond my wildest dreams and i have stayed at some glorious hotels and resorts...  the Banyan Tree Mayakoba tops them all.

furthermore, we met with Michele Salazar upon settling in at our villa.  Michele was our experience concierge and wedding coordinator.  she also became a friend and someone that i would have been thrilled to have at my wedding as a guest!  she was adorable, delightful, smart and took care of everything we could have ever wanted.  she even consoled my fears about my dress, hair, makeup and wedding in general.  she'd been there, done that, and knew how to be a great planner and a great friend.

aside from marrying the love of my life ;-), michele was the highlight of our trip.  beyond that, the rest of the staff, especially Laura (who literally saved the day with a small snafu with our marriage license), could not have been more delightful, beautiful, kind, helpful, you name it.  they organized a fishing expedition for us, a spelunking expedition, dinner recommendations, anything we could have wanted.

furthermore, our rehearsal dinner the night before was incredible.  they roped off an area by the pool for us and underlie the entire area.  you might have thought we were the only guests.  at the end of the private grill dinner (fish, meat, lobster all grilled to order in front of our eyes!) they brought out a two-piece consisting of a harpist and a violinist to play a soundtrack as each member of our family wrote a wish for us on a paper and set it aloft in a Thai Fire Lantern.  Incredible!  And a complete surprise to all of us!

Finally, i would be remiss if i were not to mention the spa.  Erawan and the rest of the front desk staff at the spa was so kind and sweet.  the spa experiences, from the rainforest to the massages, were the best i've ever had.
