Pros: beautiful beach, friendly staff

My husband and I were first attracted to Tulum for our wedding because of the beautiful ocean and eco resorts there.  We like to travel somewhat off the beaten path and Tulum really is a magical place.  You don't need to wear shoes there because you are always walking in the softest sand. The food is AMAZING at almost every restaurant because of the great chefs and emphasis on local handmade food. You can do a lot or a little while you are there whether it be explore all the archaeological sites and numerous cenotes or lay on a pristine beach with nobody else around watching pelicans fly over head.  At night you can see the Milky way and millions of stars so clearly.  The area isn't known for it's nightlife but if you are there with plenty of friends and family for your wedding you can definitely make your own party.  Staying at La Luna, we took full advantage of drinking beers and tequila every night by the pool with all of our guests. It was so great to have a private place for people to all gather together.

Now on to La Luna specifically...I really can't say enough about both the hotel and the staff.  Our guests and ourselves rented out the whole property which consists of several 2 - 6 person individual cabanas.  I believe the whole property sleeps approximately 30 people.  It was really great that during our several days there every person on the property was friends and family. The rooms are really cute, basic, quaint, and well decorated. They are are really different than anything I have ever seen. We tried to explain to our guests that La Luna is not a resort, it is so much more.  Everyone loved the natural beauty of La Luna and Tulum.  Jacob, the onsite manager, always would go out of his way to do any reasonable requests and we were treated like family while staying there. I would sometimes be shocked about how little he would charge for stuff like if we wanted to put some appetizers out by the pool for our welcome party.  While a lot of the venues in Tulum would charge you an arm and a leg for alcohol and food, La Luna doesn't add that 50% because you say the word wedding. I have to say the open bar at La Luna that was open for 9 hours is the best deal in town. We had some small requests that I was honestly worried would be turned down or we would be charged extra for after talking to a few venues in the area and the answer was always of course, because Jacob knew that what was in our interest was in his as well. We would regularly hear that "La Luna is your home" and it definitely felt like it for both the wedding and as hotel guests.

The wedding was a dream come true thanks to La Luna and our coordinator, Gwen with destinationweddingstulum.com. It started with guests gathering on the deck of the restuarant overlooking the ocean and I was surprised that La Luna had the bar open even before the ceremony.  We had the ceremony on the beautiful beach of course followed by a cocktail hour on the deck and dinner under the grape trees a little off the beach.  We did a family style dinner which was amazing!! Some of the highlights included the lentil and mozarella appetizers, yummy roasted veggies, really big juicy shrimp, and great steak. I am a foodie and always have low expectations for mass produced food but everyone raved about it and it was one of the best meals I have ever had...who knew? Jacob is the head chef and actually every meal we had at La Luna was the best! We ended the party with a 3 hour dance party on the deck of the restaurant that overlooks the ocean.  I kept telling my sister that this is the best dance floor in the world with literally every star overhead and sound of the ocean a few feet away. The whole wedding went very smoothly thanks to La Luna and Gwen.  She worked really well with La Luna and focused on creating a really beautiful ceremony and reception site, kept everything going, recommended the best DJ (DJ Fermix) who totally played all the music we loved (alternative/top 40 for dinner and hip hop for dancing), got the flowers perfect, etc...and La Luna was able to focus on the food and keeping the guests happy.  All the little details in the pictures below (lanterns, curtains, lights, how the flowers match the BM dresses wonderfully) were Gwen's.

I would definitely recommend La Luna as a wedding venue to everyone.  I really can't say enough about the staff and the wonderfully unique property.  It was so nice to have a group vacation where we could relax with all our close family and friends on the pristine beach and just enjoy each other in Tulum.
