Pros: beautiful location, great staff, great wedding coordinator
Cons: bad management, mostly buffet food, AC in most rooms was horrible

We had our destination wedding here and I loved EVERYTHING about the ceremony.  We had about 45 people come with us including children so we were looking for a kid friendly, reasonably priced all inclusive and this fit the bill. If you've been to all inclusive before then you know this isn't 5 star but we still had a blast.  I thought the shuttle ride would provide some red stripes etc and they didn't(we used apple vacations). It was at least an hour and half long ride but good scenery.  They only upgraded our room to a suite but honestly it wasn't that much better it just had a couch and a flat screen. The rooms were ok but beach front was nice(I would definitely recommend that). We asked to be put in same building but since some people didn't do ocean front and some had singles it didn't work out.  The beaches and resort was beautiful. I cannot say enough nice things about Dionne the wedding coordinator.  At first I was frustrated through the process because I realized how much any extra cost at the wedding and even the "free package" was $500.  After meeting Dionne there I will say she worked hard to give me a beautiful wedding on the budget we could afford.  Here are some things that frustrated us about the resort-the AC was awful. They have it on some timer and it only turns on at night(and with all your curtains closed) and stops in the morning and that was usual hottest part of the day. Everyone complained to the front desk or how hard it was to sleep or stay asleep after 6pm.  The buffet food was fine-not great but good enough and everyone found plenty to eat. The drink situation was fine too. They would restock the bar when you asked and of course it was easy to get drinks at the resort. I love a good swimmy bar and they had a nice one and the other pool had fun yoga activities etc.  The towel situation was a joke. You had to give them your card and turn the towel back in or get charged.  The towels were threadbare and you only got one a day. Needless to say with kids this was a constant source of monitoring. After the wedding we switched Wild Orchid(Secrets) in Montego where you got all the luxe towels you wanted and they would lay out a spot on the beach, and the pool etc and I realized how annoying the Riu towel thing was.  The jerk chicken hut on the beach was awesome! We ate lunch on the beach every day. The beach was great people watching and people played music, you could walk up the beach to souvenir stands etc.

My wedding was so great and I am so grateful.  I had made up welcome bags for the guests and I would bring them down each morning(my guests arrived different days) and they would label them and hand them to the guests when they check in.  That was nice because some resorts charge a delivery fee or wouldn't handle them. They all loved that.  I met with Dionne a few days before the wedding to finalize and she was extremely helpful.  I had brought a lot of things so I wouldn't have to pay the resort and she handled it all. I brought my own chair bows(so much cheaper!!), table cloths, fans,  flower petals(my photographer put them out right before the ceremony) etc.  I had called the florist about upgrading the archway and it was super expensive. She called them and they suggested a different way of upgrading that only cost $150 and was WAY worth it because the red standard flowers would have clashed.  The rehearsal was fine. We did the ceremony right on the beach. She came and got us and walked us out and told everyone what to do. We had a steel drum band play. That was expensive but so worth it. Everyone talked about it and taped it. They all loved coming into the ceremony hearing them play.  We had a CD with one song I wanted played at the end but otherwise they played everything I wanted during the ceremony.  The minister was funny and even made some jokes during the ceremony. We did a sand ceremony and wrote our own vows.  He was great to work with.  He couldn't pronounce our name at the end but that just made it funnier.  The ceremony was great(but so HOT). I am so glad I brougtht fans for everyone.  After they brought out champagne and the steel drum band played and we did a toast and took some pictures. A double rainbow even appeared right after the ceremony and we got awesome pictures under it.  After some people changed and we met at lobby for a drink and all went to steakhouse together. We had the semi private dinner but felt completely private and we had great service. The food was good and I thought better than most people have at their receptions. We did the caking cutting there. After we had a beach party reception. I was nervous if it would be worth the cost and what I was paying for(it's a $600 set up fee) but I am glad we did it. It had rained during dinner and I didn't realize Dionne and crew were carefully monitoring and ready with plan B if we needed it. I personally would not want to have my reception at the discoteque(super dark all black painted walls and no windows) so I'd do the beach or private room in shadows.  They had tiki torches and it roped off(sort of with Christmas lights) and a full bar/bartender and DJ. We rented tables and chairs from them and I brought my own centerpieces with candles and tablecloths. We had a friend run ahead of us and told the DJ to announce us and the wedding party and he did. I had contacted him earlier with a list of songs for first dance etc and everything went smoothly.  It's hard to dance in the sand but our attitude was we came all the way to Jamaica so let's do it right.  The next day we rented a private catamaran and everyone said that was their favorite thing. We went to Rick's and went snorkeling.  The crew was hilarious(they danced, did headstands off the side of the boat) and gave us a great trip. It cost us about $50 but that included drinks and kids 13 and under were free.  I might suggest you bring snacks for it.  The other thing I'd mention is the smell of ganga everywhere. It was pretty open and I couldn't believe how many people approached us.  Once we said no they didn't harrass us.  We had a beautiful wedding and I loved how many of our friends got to go because the price was good, but if I was just going on a trip with my husband I would not go back there.  The main frustration was the restaurants.  You had to make reservations 2 nights in advance(which meant the people with us could only make reservations for the night of our wedding which they didn't need) and many left the next day.  They said it was the slow season and only had ONE restaurant opened each night.  I begged the manager to get some of our group in or to let me reserve a spot to have a rehearsal dinner and they didn't. They did set up some tables in the outside section with flower petals etc. for our group but it was still the buffet food.  So most people only had the buffet food except for my wedding. Sir Andrews was good, so was the Shadows. Some guests that got into Luigi's said it was horrible and these are not picky eaters.  When we asked for my parents to be moved rooms because of the AC situation-the manager would not work with us. We have stayed at Riu's before and this was not managed well. The staff was great and the shows were fun and interactive.   Hope this is helpful to any new brides.
