Privilege Aluxes Isla Mujeres
We worked with Elba, one of the wedding coordinators, for about 6 months before our wedding date. She was always very prompt and patient in answering our many many questions. We did a fully legal ceremony there and the paperwork is in Spanish so she walked us through it all and it ended up being pretty easy with her help. She was accommodating to all our requests & even sent over the ceremony text when I asked.
We all loved that we could walk with our luggage from the ferry to the hotel, it was not a hard walk at all & I had quite a bit of luggage plus my wedding gown. We got into our room, a Superior Ocean View suite with jacuzzi, and it was gorgeous! The staff had left us a bottle of champagne chilling, chocolate covered fruits, and towel swans and rose petals on our bed! The room was huge, modern, extremely clean, nice and cool compared to outside, our balcony was equally huge, and we loved being able to see cancun across the water, and the sunset from our jacuzzi.
We were amazed by the beach. I did not realize there was a small road/path between the hotel & beach but it wasn’t a big deal and was pretty empty except for the occasional golf cart. We never had an issue finding beach loungers, even for 4-6 people, at any time of the day. Beach beds were taken a lot but there are only 4 I think so we just waited and pounced on it when one came open. We loved the beach service- it was always very fast & they did a great job filing our orders, and letting us know when they closed down to prep for dinner so we could double up our drinks. The beach itself was dreamy & gorgeous- the sand was super fine and white as flour, the water was super clear turquoise and had a really nice slow slope transitioning from shallow to deep. We brought our own snorkels and saw quite a few fish right out in front, including some type of a camouflaged ray.
Our wedding was on a Saturday an hour or two before sunset. Elba had previously told me she could not make it that day so her supervisor stepped in for her. She came to check on us a few hours before the ceremony & was so sweet asking if we needed anything. They set up our ceremony right on the beach in the thatched roof palapa they use for massages, although another possible location is directly on the beach under an arch. They did a great job setting it up with flowers and draping on the support beams underneath the palapa. The judge was unable to make it so the supervisor performed the ceremony with the judge’s assistant. We could tell she practiced it a few times and she made sure to pronounce our names correctly- she did wonderfully. The staff went above & beyond for us as well. We got a customized basic package that did not include anything but a few flower arrangement on the palapa. When we got to walk down the aisle they had also put up tiki torches & rose petals in a path to make the aisle! They also had champagne waiting for us to toast with directly afterwards. We had a dinner reservation for all 6 of us at Café Del Mar later that night. The staff setup the table beautifully- with more flowers down the middle, and super fancy setup with candles & all! At the end of dinner the capitan came out & said he had a surprise for us- the chef had made us our own cake to cut! It even had a super cute cake topper (a bride with the groom slung over her shoulder)- I was in awe of their thoughtfulness & it truly felt like we were surrounded by close friends & family and not wait-staff. The capitan made a point to tell us that he would save the cake for us & we could ask for it anytime we ate at any of the restaurants, we got some at breakfast the next day & they even put extra decorative icing on it so it didn’t look like just like a leftover piece of cake.
My husband accidentally stripped our room card that night by having it in his pocket with his cell phone so we had to go to the front desk to get a new one that night. They had all our flowers up front & the guy working said he was going to place them in our room for us but gave us a knowing smile & said “you know, it’s your honeymoon”. We got such a kick out of them being so very considerate & told him we were going to take a walk on the beach if he wanted to go ahead with them.
Our wedding was more than we could have ever hoped thanks to the amazing service at the hotel & café del mar! We both highly recommend this location for a wedding or vow renewal. The staff was such a pleasure & felt like family in the end, and the grounds were amazingly perfect & gorgeous! We loved it so much we are saving up to return for our 1 year anniversary!
