Grand Riviera Princess All Suites Resort & Spa All Inclusive
My husband and I traveled to this resort for 10 days in October for our wedding and honeymoon with 55 family and friends. Our wedding was perfect! Our wedding group had one of the best vacations of their lives and we’re already looking forward to an anniversary return trip! The price of the resort
is very reasonable for the high quality of food, numerous restaurants, assortment of bars, and tons of pools. The resort is huge, which is 1 reason we chose the resort since our wedding group was a wide range of ages from kids to adults. One side is the Riviera side and the other side is an exact duplicate the Sunset side which you have access to both. There is a trolley that runs the resort, but walking the resort is beautiful as it is well landscaped and manicured, staff always cleaning, and statues lining the walkways.
During the day there were so many areas of the resort you could choose to visit from the beach with beautiful blue water, the many pools that lined the resort from the lobby to the beach, and multiple swim up bars. There were a few buffets open during the daytime and a pool grill cooking burgers and hot dogs. At night we would start off at the lobby bar for cocktails, hit the disco, and end up at the 24 hour sports bar for made to order burgers and fries. Even if a bar or restaurant was closed due to the low season there were still plenty of others to choose from. There is also an outdoor bar area with nightly entertainment in the courtyard. The Asian restaurant Miso was our favorite that we went to 3 times and the Italian restaurant Mamma Mia twice! Room service is great too! We didn't get a chance to go to the spa, theatre, or Thai Beach club as there were so many options of things to do so I'm looking forward to those on the return trip.
We booked Coco Bongo one night with the coordinator at the resort Ivan who wore an Iowa Hawkeye hat just for us! We also took the ferry over to Cozumel for a day and hosted a sunset catamaran cruise for our group. The area offers many activities to choose from, it’s less than a 15 minute cab ride to downtown Playa Del Carmen, and half hour cab ride to the airport.
I would recommend the platinum upgrade as it does not cost much more and is well worth it. Platinum rooms are on the beach, jacuzzi tub on the patio and another in the bathroom, private pool with cushioned beds and loungers, free massage, platinum lounge with drinks, snacks, internet, concierge to make your dinner reservations, and I could go on. We've stayed at 2 all inclusive resorts in Jamaica and 4 all inclusive resorts in Mexico and this was my favorite resort so far based on price versus quality of food, overall resort appearance, and amenities. Even a resort that I've stayed at costing twice as much wasn't perfect. This resort isn't perfect, but the positives outweigh the negatives, and can't complain for the price. Lines could get long for drinks so recommend bringing own large mug so don't have to refill as often, not all bars/restaurants were open, have to speak to travel agent for reservations as front desk would not help as they only do check ins, and didn't receive welcome drink. The issues were minor.
Our wedding was above and beyond our expectations! We met with our wedding coordinator one of the first few days we arrived to finalize options which was a very easy process as she had every detail already outlined from when/where to have flowers delivered, music, transportation, personal wedding favors, etc. They already had an answer to any question I had. Any guests that were not platinum had access to platinum that day to help myself the bride and groom get ready. A group of us girls were getting ready in one suite and typically you have to pay for room service alcohol but they brought us free champagne and mimosas! We had the free wedding package due to the number of rooms we booked but they still provided us flowers for decor on the gazebo which was beautiful overlooking the ocean. The wedding ceremony went smooth with the wedding coordinator there to organize the wedding party and the ceremony was heartfelt with a tear coming to both of our eyes! After photos at the beach we walked through the resort path with our wedding party to the main lobby and received a standing ovation on our walk from all the pool goers!
We had the private Ibiza room reserved for dinner and the wedding coordinator was very accommodating letting us have it an hour early for a cocktail hour. The food was amazing, which was a salad with seafood, chicken dish, and smoothie milk cake. We thought we would have just the room for dinner and leave but the room was gorgeous with mirrored decor, a bar, and they surprised us with a free DJ when we got to the room so we had a private reception to drink and dance. We then went to the sports bar until the disco opened and then danced the night away at the disco! The disco was hopping with tons of people and we made numerous friends at the resort during our stay from Canada to Europe! We didn't use the free dinner in the free wedding package because it was only for 20 people so the wedding coordinator went above and beyond again and a few days before the wedding allowed us to have a private dinner reservation for a family dinner at the Italian restaurant Mamma Mia where we had an entire back room to ourselves to spend quality time with our family members. Our wedding was truly wonderful and I can't wait to visit this resort again!
