Paradisus Palma Real Resort All Inclusive
My husband and I, along with a large wedding party (60 ppl) arrived at the Paradisus Palma Real on Thursday (June 20, 2013) for our Sunday wedding (June 23, 2013). I will write my review in chronological order so that it's a little easier to follow. Like I mentioned I had a large group arriving and no one had an issue at the time of check-in; from what my guests commented check-in was a breeze and the staff at the front desk was very nice. My husband and I were also upgraded to a one-bedroom suite at no extra charge (but we did have to ask for it-- so be sure to ask for it!). The accommodations were great; all of the rooms were spacious and very well-kept. The AC's were working and the mini-bar was always restocked. There were days that the rooms were cleaned on the late side (around 5:30ish) but that wasn't a huge issue for us. The resort itself is beautiful and VERY large so get ready to walk!!!!! The pool area and beach area seemed to always be clean but the bathrooms near those areas could be better kept (again, not a huge issue). The waiter at the pool bar, Ramon, was fantastic!!!!!! Not only does he remember you but he remembers what you drink as well!!!! We found ourselves spending a lot of time at the pool. Making reservations for dinner was a nightmare but that was mainly due to the lack of communication from the romance team (will explain later). The day after we arrived (Friday), I had my meeting scheduled with my romance coordinator, Yessica. Lara from Caribbean Celebrations was also there. At this meeting we went over all of the details of the wedding, but I was surprised when they asked questions about items/services that I had already discussed/confirmed via email. Luckily I brought a folder with all my invoices and emails... I would suggest that all brides do this! It was also at this time that Yessica told me that she had gone ahead and made a reservation for 15 people at Bana Bistro for that evening... I confirmed with her that we'd be there for dinner and we left our meeting. The night before the wedding I had asked Yessica to reserve a part of the buffet to host a rehearsal dinner for my guests (it was the only option that was at no extra cost). They sat my guests in the dark (an area of the buffet where the lights were turned off) and didn't move them until they were asked. This is where I started getting irritated because this was something that should be obvious; it's understandable that the lights might have been malfunctioning or that they were off for whatever reason but to begin with my guests should have been sat somewhere else (they are not good at being proactive and taking initiative). Finally our wedding day arrives and it starts off great- we spent the morning under a hut lounging on the beach. My appointment at the Yhi Spa was great. The ladies there are so nice and are very talented!!! While they work a little slower than we're accustomed to in the states they had us ready on time. The photographers, Arricefe, were great as well too- they were at the hotel as promised. The ceremony was perfect. However during the ceremony it was obvious that the weather was declining (you can see the sky darkening in the pictures). It wasn't until it actually began raining that the romance team decided to start moving the location of the events (cocktail hour was on the beach and the reception was set-up at the Olympus terrace). With that said, everything from the reception got soaked (all the overlays and Chinese lanterns I had paid extra for). In addition, the centerpieces were wrong. During all of the commotion Yessica, my wedding coordinator, cut herself with something and had to leave- Mariela took over. Mariela was rude to me and some of my guests and it was really disheartening. At first I was very disappointed that my overlays and lanterns could not be used because I felt that it took away from the overall look that I was going for- I got over it, decided to enjoy myself and address it with the romance team the next day. On the day following the wedding I decided to meet with Mariela and discuss all of my concerns. Even though I had my invoice from Caribbean Celebrations detailing what the centerpieces were suppose to look like she gave me attitude and questioned me. After consistently harassing them and calling a million times a time I received credit for the error on the centerpieces. I am currently in the process of discussing the issue with the other items that weren't used because they do not want to refund me any money. On Tuesday (FIVE days after arriving) a group of guests that are part of my wedding group attempted to make dinner reservations and were unsuccessful. They were told that they could not make any reservations because the romance team had already made a reservation for that evening for 15 ppl. To begin with, I had no earthly idea that reservations were made on a daily basis on behalf of my wedding party because I was never informed of this and secondly I was with a group of 60 people... all 60 people do not fit in one restaurant so my guests should have been allowed to make reservations even if my group had a reservation for 15 ppl. When I brought this to the attention of the romance team they told me that I should make reservations through them--- am I suppose to be a mind reader?
Overall, I was very disappointed with my experience at the Paradisus Palma Real and it was mainly due to the lack of communication by the romance team, as well as their customer service.
