Pros: Secluded, pretty, that's it!
Cons: Everything!
AWe stayed at the The Reserve April 14-20 and were married on site. We have travelled fairly extensively and never have felt it necessary to write a review.... until now. We have a difficult time believing many of these reviews that give specific employee names because no one speaks fluent English at the resort, and they only have first names on their badges. Very suspicious of everyone leaving reviews calling out all of the employees by first and last name and doing nothing but praising everything at this resort. Let me preface this by saying we are not elitist ... Just normal, upper middle class 30 something's. We appreciate good food, nice hotels, and a stiff drink;) Pros: Resort is aesthetically beautiful It's extremely peaceful. No noise. Never busy feeling. Rarely any cell reception, so completely uninterrupted. The servers and bartenders were very sweet, although communicating with them was difficult. Cons: Communication: No one speaks fluent English. No one. Not even management. When you have the issues we had, it makes a bad situation worse. You'd think they would work on this considering almost everyone we met visiting the resort was from the US or Canada. Food: The food is awful. Passion was the only restaurant between both resorts that we actually ate any part of our meal. The Gabi Club near reception had an omelette station where we would fill up on a couple fresh eggs and fruit in the morning because we knew we wouldn't eat much the rest of the day. Towards the end of the trip we started going back there during dinner time because the omelette station is turned into a grill. We would have them put some fresh meat on the grill and walk it back to our room because it tasted better and more natural than anything at any of the other restaurants. It was our wedding and honeymoon and we actually came home weighing less than when we left. Bad sign:)! Drinks: The cocktails are awful. The wine is disgusting... Both the red and the white. The mixed drinks are wild...normal drinks that seem somewhat universal, tasted weird and were not drinkable. We ended up drinking Grey Goose on the rocks to be safe and consistent. The daiquiri machines are also good, just have them add a floater. The only saving grace for both the food and drinks, is that they were all inclusive so you weren't stuck paying for something that would ultimately be thrown away. We even went to the grocery next door to the resort to buy a few bottles of wine... And they were all terrible as well. The best wine out of all of them was sadly a bottle of Barefoot Cabernet which we paid triple for. Rooms: We reserved a one bedroom master suite swim up. When we checked in, they took us to a room that smelled so bad we couldn't breathe and instead of a king size bed... There was two full size beds pushed together!!!! We refused this room, it was our wedding after all. They told us that king beds were based on availability when you check in... Ridiculous. They then made us walk to the room with management so they could smell the room... Degrading. Finally we were moved to a less stinky room with two full size beds pushed together for the night until a king size room opened the next day.... Literally two hours before we got married. I should tell you that we attempted to get our money back... $5,000!!!!, and change hotels during all of this, but they refused because we had technically already checked in although we hadn't even spent 5 minutes in the stinky room. STRONG SUGGESTION: MAKE SURE THEY SHOW YOU YOUR ASSIGNED ROOM BEFORE YOU PAY OR SIGN...they know what room they are putting you in even if it isn't available... Make sure it doesn't smell and it isn't two beds pushed together. It took us 26 hours to finally end up in the correct room. We met many other couples during the week that had the same experience... Please spare yourself the pain! Wedding Set Up: Thankfully we are a very loving happy couple or this could've been the end of our relationship;) Do not get married here. The gazebo is in the middle of the main resort and every single room looks down upon you. The gazebo is tiny and nothing like the pictures... The lawn in front of it is minuscule as well. The beach space isn't much better. It's far too windy and it is not a private beach. There is no way of blocking the public from gathering and staring. They also have other things going on at the beach at the same time... Corporate events, etc.... Not romantic at all. We ultimately had the minister marry us in the back of our third and final non smelly swim up suite to avoid the gawkers and noise. They did remind us though that they normally do not allow people to marry in their rooms and they were making and *exception* for us!!! Overall: For this price, do not stay at this resort. All though the staff is kind, it does not make up for the service, the food, and the ultimate anxiety. We ended up staying to ourselves and laughing at the situation... It was kind of like a comedy movie. The master swim up room is a must and because there isn't much to do on the island, you'll appreciate having your own living room and pool area. Don't let them push you around... We could've ended up in a room that smelled like death with two beds pushed together with a gap down the middle!!! Do not get married here. We had an awesome time being together... But for the money, we wished we had done Napa, New York, Atlantis, or St Maarten.... Somewhere where people spoke English, had awesome food, and exotic inventive drinks. PS: We scoured Tripadvisor and the negative reviews, but chose to brush them off as grumpy haters writing negative reviews. Now that we're back, we realize that they were the honest reviews...and the five stars with employee reviews should've been the ones we questioned. Hope this helps! MANAGEMENT NEED NOT REPLY. YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE TO HELP US WHILE WE WERE THERE!!!

I am terribly sorry this was your experience, as no one should have to go through this at their wedding. I just got married here and our experience was quite the opposite. I just wanted to point out that the name tags indeed have the first and last names- not for the bartenders, but definitely the reservationists, management, wedding coordinators etc. Maybe this changed since you were there, but I wrote down first and last names of employees specifically for the sake of reviews. And if you ask they gladly whip out a card with their names too. I speak fluent spanish, but am more comfortable speaking English and spoke it to several workers.

I hope someway and somehow you were able to recuperate some funds for your awful experience and that something positive came out of your time there. : (

BTW I plan on writing a detailed review with pros and cons. It was our wedding in paradise but it wasn't perfect. I mentioned that on my PPR thread and some upcoming brides were not thrilled with the negative things I said but I felt it was my responsibility to be honest so they can better navigate some of the issues we had.
