The Royal in Cancun All Inclusive Spa & Resort
So I'm a little behind on my review, but better then never doing it...
Our wedding was On February 20 2013. we left for Cancun on February 17 with an 8 am departure (actually ended up being at 1030 but that was our city airport's issue) and returned home 1 short week later on the 24. Both flight were with Air Canada...so let get to the review
Airline: Air Canada going there A...coming home D
With the earlier mentioned late departure AC did great under alot of stress with a situation in which they had really no control over. Our flight was full and I was one of the last to board the plane because I hate sitting on planes any longer than I have to with my 6' frame along with my husband 6'5 we get squished and wait till till we absolutely have to be on the plane. I asked the flight staff to help me with my dress and because it was a full plane I was told there was no more room left in the closet I laid my dress as flat as I could in an over head bin and it was closed to anyone else. The flight was smooth and the staff congratulated us upon arrival. Going home however we got stuck with a flight director that had something shoved up her behind for quite sometime. I asked for help with my dress and was told to find an overhead bin to put it in and take my seat even though now the clothing closet was EMPTY...I said i would wait a few seconds to see where I could fit it and was then sternly told to go take my seat now. This said flight attendant (who was the one in charge of that flight) continued on her power trip for the duration of the flight and was very rude..this is unacceptable,,the rest of the staff was OK but she overshadows them in this review as well as the one I wrote to AC
Airport transfer A
nothing special really we landed waited about 20 or so minuets for pick up and then took about 20 to get to the resort staff was kind and helpful
Resort: A++ to infinity
I cannot say enough good about this resort I have been raving about it to anyone that will listen. check-in for us was a breeze, greeted at the door with a glass of Delicious champagne and once we had our room number (532) our baggage was carried there for us and the bag guy gave us an overview of our room
The room was gorgeous and they all have a view of the ocean, its a beautiful thing to wake up to in the morning. However the window looking between the bathroom and the bedroom was a little curious but came in handy the night I had a little to much to drink and my husband was able to keep an eye on me as I don't like him hanging around me while I worship the porcelain thrown.
also a little plus our room also came with a reserved cabana on the beach which really was not a big deal as most people seemed to flock to the pool which you do have to wake up early to go get seats there but none the less it was nice not to have to think about a seat it was just there and was really cozy when we did go down to about once a day
The Morning after our arrival we were asked to go to the concierge for an info meeting with yazmin (she is Fantastic and so helpful) find her if you need anything we loved her and gave her an extra tip before leaving the resort. She filled us in on what was happening that week and all our reservations for the week, even getting a sitting at the habuki grill in asiana for our group of 17 to celebrate my cousins birthday...note get your reservations quick especially for chefs plate of your wanting to go, we only got in on our last night there.
The food is great I felt like all the food is made for you ready to order and while the hotel was fully booked the week we were there I never felt crowded (in fact when we ate lunch at asiana one day we were the only ones in the restaurant) service was great! We ate at all the restaurants but I think I liked pelicanos the best. My fave was the guac. and chips and my husband loved the beef fajitas
Before going for breakfast I loved stopping by for a cookie and a coffee/frapicinno (I stopped for a cookie anytime I passed the coffee shop)
Nightly entertainment was awesome everyone from our group really enjoyed the time and effort of all the performers put in
Daily there are things to keep you busy around the resort the volleyball on the beach or in the pool, pool exercise and pottery painting for the crafty person and of course just sitting around and having a drink (my fave was a Cancun beach) is always amazing. Look for a drink menu at pelicanos.
here is a grade for all amenities at the resort;
spice buffet: B+
Pelicanos : A
Asiana: A
Chefs plate: A
Beach/pool Bar :B
Maria Marie; A
Tapas: B (I think just personal preference really)
Spazul: A+ Mariana did an awesome job on my unmanageable long think hair
the gym: (classes also at the caribe which my aunt did every day) I didt go but family did and they had fun so it a A
Real Bazaar shop: A they had everything if you ran out plus some souvenirs
And the wedding center...
..
The wedding, the main event! I have to say the day was better then I could have hoped for
We started our wedding planning journey in April of 2012 by getting in contact with Patricia who then connected us the Katia Nunez. There are some policies about the resort that are a little silly...like the $400/h fee for a break between the ceremony and the reception, and $600 for a minister (come on really) and some of the fees for extra flowers and decor are little much but really it doesn't matter when its all said and done...And there are some things that we had to stand our ground on that we wanted but Katia did great and really tried her best to accommodate our wants and needs. We are so pleased with her and recommend her
Anyways we worked with Kaita until January 2013 when we were passed along the line to flora...I had read reviews on her and had told katia that I did not want her for my wedding day, in fact a few times I told her that and still we got Flora and I put up a fuss and I am so happy I did because then we were handed over to Elizabeth Sotelo. Elizabeth was fantastic and You could tell that she had done this a few times (she mentioned in low season the real resorts do about 35 wedding a month and up to 75 in high season) she thought of things I even did not. and if our information was crisscrossed somewhere she had no problem making the change to what we wanted (I would still suggest bringing a copy of all correspondence with you to avoid possible communication just in case) We had a meeting 2 days before the wedding where we talked about all our details and handed off all the decor we brought from home and told her how we wanted everything
On the day itself Elizabeth was within an earshot the whole day had we needed her but did not really because she did such a wonderful job getting the day together in the month before.
The ceremony was held on the beach at 4pm and took about 15 mins. I had the standard beach decor and brought a few a my own things to give it a little flare.
we had a cocktail hour directly after with champagne and lots of food. After that we were able to give our guests 30 mins to go freshen up before hitting the reception at 6pm.
The Reception was in the real club that is located on the 2nd floor of the hotel it is air conditioned and has a outdoor terrace for dancing and mingling (which we did alot of) the event was private and that gave us 3 hours to do our thing and when that time was up we went for another hour but sadly (or maybe not, see above about worshiping the porcelain thrown) sadly the resort has a noise resriction of 10 pm which if your partying kinda sucks but if your sleeping is awesome.
Also I want to add what decor of our own we brought...
Table decorations..seashells, pearls strands, table confetti square mirrors, 12 votive candles,
cake topper, 6 Photos of us and frames
huppa pom pom
party favors, seating name cards
Finally the Photographers
Victor Herrera photogrphy A+
We got the whole Herrera clan Victor Adrian and Sarah and we loved having them follow us around for 8 hours of our day. This family really looks at photography as an artform and they work well together.
They have an eye for light and ow it will work in your photos and being with them I know has made some incredible pictures. We have recived a sneek peek from them and are still waiting for the whole album to come.
One thing I will say is that their english is not perfect so getting across what they wanted was tricky at times but we got by and did fine, did not really effect the day at all but just so you know
and as soon as I get all my pics I will give a better review!
