Gran Caribe Real Resort & Spa All Inclusive
I just had the best wedding I could dream of, so here goes with the review
Beach: beautiful white sand beach with crystal clear blue ocean, tons of lounge chairs, trade wind beach bar is very close by. One beach volleyball net seems to be available all the time. (view from our room)
Food: at the buffet was mediocre, better at restaurants if you order the right dishes. I prefer their meat dish over their seafood stuff. Maria's was my favorite restaurant on GCR side, and Asiana Chef's plate was my favorite on The Royal side.
Accommodation: in order to qualify for the basic free wedding, we had to book a Gran Master's room for 7 night, so we booked a Ocean View GM room which was worth it. I loved the jacuzzi looking right out to the ocean view. The living/dining room was separate from the bedroom which was a big plus comes the wedding day when people are getting ready. The only complain was these tiny ants that were near the sinks, also beware of any fresh food left in the room, because they do attract the ants.
Check in: this is about the only real complain I have, because it took an hour. We arrived with a group of people, so they immediately thought we were with them. After awhile they finally brought us to the front desk to do a individual check in (front lobby had no A/C and there were no welcome drinks for us either). The process itself was about 15 minute, plus another 20 minute wait time. However if you do come with a group, they are pretty organized, they lead you to a room downstairs with A/C and check in each person ther.
Wedding
WC: Elizabeth
We made an appointment to see Elizabeth on Monday morning to go over all the details we have confirmed previously. She was right on top of everything. We told her how we like to set it all up. I am pretty organized when it comes to this stuff, and did diagrams of how I want all the placements. She took one look and said no problem. Then I handed over all my wedding stuff, and told her exactly how I want it. I expected some 'but' and 'no', there were none. All she said was okay, no problem. Also, there were no added fees. On top of that we forgot to mention a few more detail such as we want the ceremony centerpiece moved inside for our reception, she was on top of it. Also she printed menu for each table which came as a nice surprise.
On the wedding day, I started with the spa appointment for makeup and hair at 1pm. Because the spa at GCR did not have a hair salon, my BM and I were sent over to the Royal spa for hair and makeup. Our stylist asked about my ceremony time, and went on to do there thing. Initially all of us were quite concern the hairs were too curly, but these ladies know what they are doing, about an hour or so later, the curls relaxed, and all our hair looked great.
I hired Photo in Cancun to do my wedding day and TTD photography. They arrived right on time at around 2:30 an just started to take pictures of all the detailed stuff right away. Since I didn't book a cocktail hours, they asked me to call up as many guest as I can find to join us on the beach for some pictures before the ceremony. This is when we took the majority of our photos as well. Derek and Lorena were so fun to work with, and they were really creative as well.
The forecast said rain during the evening, so Elizabeth did call at around 1:30 to ask us to decide if we want to move the receptions indoor. As long as I had my ceremony on the beach (I didn't come to Cancun for nothing), I was happy, so I told her sure. This turned out to be a great idea, because it was more private and our party was pretty crazy after a few rounds of shots. Plus you can't go wrong with some nice A/C. Our ceremony started at 5:30. Everything went smoothly despite not having a rehearsal the night before. The music was loud enough, the officiant spoke clearly and fluent English. Right after our 20 minute ceremony, we took more pictures on the beach.
Elizabeth then led the guests over to the indoor banquet hall where she manage to still use my decoration and make it look all beautiful. Private receptions are typically 3 hours, but I am so glad we extend it to 4 hours. It all went by so fast, I guess it's true when they say time go by faster when you are having fun.
We booked DJ Doremixx for our reception, and they were mostly great. They played songs we requested and followed the time line pretty well. The only thing they screwed up was our first dance. Originally we planned for a very short fast dance routine to end our first dance, but they forgot about it. It was really no big deal, cause we were so over our head happy, we sorta forgot the routine anyways.
Our wedding food was not bad, I heard the beef was better than the fish. Also our Tres Leche wedding cake was good as well, unfortunately I don't think many people tried it, because it was taken away so fast. The bartenders were great, after awhile they just continuously made shots without us even asking. They did however started to make slushy shots once they realized a lot of us were getting quite drunk. It was certainly a memorable night I will never forget.
Overall, we had a great wedding and wouldn't change a thing. If you have any question, feel free to msg me.
