Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa - Luxury All Inclusive
Alright everyone, it took me a little bit of time to actually sit down and write this out. We have really been enjoying married life and all that comes with it :) We were sooo very sad to leave, I cried. I wasn't ready for it all to be over.
Arival
When we landed in Cancun, we easily and quickly went through customs. They did search all of our bags. We the we told them we were getting married, they no longer seemed concerned. We found our van to the resort faily easily.
Once arriving at the resort, everyone was super nice! They got all of our baggage together as we went to the front desk. Checking in was quick and simple. We really enjoyed having the cool cloth and champaigne :)
Resort
The resort is absolutely amazing! We really enjoyed our beach front room. It was nice being able to walk out on our patio with the view and sound of the ocean. It was perfect.
Some of our guests had the dolphin view rooms. I think my Dad got annoyed because he would hear them throughout the night. They seemed to keep him up at night.
They kept the rooms clean and tidy, which was really appreciated. We did have to call room service several times to get more water. They would only put 4 bottles in a room at a time, and we always seemed to go through it quickly. We only ordered in food once. The menu is limited, but the food was great. I think it took them about 35 min to bring it up.
The entire resort was always picked up! It always seem to be very clean. The hotel staff were fantastic. They would always get people involved in their activities. My mom really seemed to enjoy some water areobics.
As for restaurants, there was not one that I didn't love. It was hard to choose where to eat at, because all of them had great food. All of our guests agreed. They even had a stand out throughout the day that had just fresh fruit, which is where I stopped often.
We really enjoyed the bars as well. The Swing Bar was our favorite! We would close it down then head to the lobby bar. Some of our guests were happy because they could get Bud Light, but it was hit and miss.
Pre wedding meeting
This went pretty quickly. We brought down everything that Cecilia needed. We picked out our cake and some flowers for a table (I had brought all of our flowers for the ceremony to cut cost).
Rehersal
This was a bit of a mess. It was very windy and difficult to understand Cecilia at times. Luckily, everyone in our wedding party was already in other weddings, so they knew the jist of what to do.
Pre-Wedding
I had set up all hair appointments weeks in advance via email. One thing that every bride needs to realize, hair appointments need to be paid for 24 hours in advance or they will fill them with other appointments. Getting them paid wasn't a problem, but this did worry me a bit. Also, they do not take american money, so we had to get it exchanged at the main desk. Everyone liked how their hair was done. I had looked at some pictures they had, and picked one out. My hair looked fantastic and held up very well.
Day of wedding
There was a bad rain/wind storm for several hours. (I was bummed, but obviouslly no one can control the weather.) Two umbrellas were torn apart by the wind. I really hope we do not get charge $35 for each umbrella (there was a tag on them saying that is how much it would cost to replace them).
Our wedding was scheduled for 1 pm, but the rain was soo bad we delayed it for 30 minutes. Our guests and wedding party started to move all the chairs inside so they would not continue to get wet. Eventually, my husband Paul, pointed out to Cecilia that this really wasn't the responsibility of the wedding party or our guests. At that point, people from the resort moved in the rest of the things for our ceremony. We ended up having the wedding inside the preferred tower building instead of in the gazebo.
There was confusion when the wedding party was walking in (only family stood up with us while others sat down). I wish Cecilia would have directed them with were to go while we were waiting, there was plenty of time. It doesn't look very good on the wedding video.
Most of the ceremony went off well. It was difficult to hear the minister because Paul and I were standing in the covered area outside, while he was inside. Paul mumbled over a lot of the vows because he couldn't understand the minister.
I had created a shadow box for our sand ceremony. The sand was outside in the rain and it had all stuck together. Our Mom's came up and were pouring sand, the funnel started to get cloged right away. At one point, one of the groomsmen came up with a stir stick to help push it through, but that only worked for so long. After they replayed the same song for the third time, we gave up on filling it up the rest of the way. We figured we would finish that later, but whoever placed in in our room, sat it down on its side. Well this caused the colors of sand to mix together.
During the ceremony, a lady who worked at the resort was squiging the floors ourside the preferred tower. I did not realize this at the time, but my husband and our guests did. She just walked back and fourth pushing water off the outside area of the preferred towers. It looks horrible in the wedding video. I am glad that she was doing her job and keeping the hotel up nice, but she was only a couple of feet away from Paul during our ceremony. I wasn't impressed.
Sometime during the ceremony some kind of music was playing over the intercom system of the preferred tower. I'm not sure if they did not realize a wedding was going on or what the deal was. I guess I figured that since they do so many weddings at Dream's Cancun, they would have a system down pact. I guarentee that our wedding is not the only one rained out. There just seemed to be a lack of consideration.
We had payed extra for a sound system since our wedding was at the gazebo, they did fantastic with all of our music! I had given them a CD and where each song needed to be played.
I was really excited to show our wedding video at our AHR. Well, they spelled our last name's wrong (yes, both mine and Pauls). It's kind of funny because at one point, they zoom in on our unity sand frame where his last name is spelled out. Yet, at the very beginning it's spelled incorrectly. Along with that , the lady squiging in the background makes the video not look so good. They did do a good job of incorrporating our music into the video, which was a plus.
Cocktail hour
We moved coctail hour to being at the sushi grill, it is covered and our guests wouldn't get wet. Paul and I arrived about 15 minutes after it started and most the appitizers were gone. I had three appitizers and that was all. Paul asked if they were going to bring out more (since the hour had just started) the guy said yes. They never did. Maybe I was wrong to assume that we would have coctails and appitizers for an hour.
We went with a three tier cake. I was really impressed that each layer could be a seperate flavor! The top of chocolate, then white, and the bottom cheescake :) I was ecstatic about the cheesecake! It did not look like the picture of the cake we had chosen. One we chose, had flowers on it, and ours did not. I believe most of the cake got ate, which is great!
I think that is about all that I have. The resort really was fantastic, I would recommend to to anyone! As for your wedding, if you have perfect weather, I'm sure you won't have a problem. Hope this helps all the brides out there!
