The Royal in Playa del Carmen All Inclusive Spa & Resort
I recently got married at the Royal, Playa del Carmen and have mixed feelings about holding a wedding there. The day of the wedding, everything couldn't have been better and we had an amazing time, but it was the pre-wedding process that was tough.
First of all, the communication from the beginning was very hard and we called and emailed several times without hearing back from anyone. We decided to hire an outside wedding planner to help us with numerous details and thank God for that! She finally was able to get some communication for us.
The Royal does not budge on any of their locations to hold ceremonies or receptions. What they offer is what you get. You can't negotiate different locations or times, even if you want to pay extra. Make sure if you get married here that you get EVERYTHING in writing. We visited a year before the wedding and were promised numerous things, and when the time came they didn't hold true to their promise and we had to fight on so many issues which made for a stressful time.
Don't get your hair or makeup done by the Royal, they made my bridesmaide's look like 1985 prom queens and we had to re-do hair and makeup.
The worst item of all is that for any outside vendor you have for your wedding they charge you $350 which is the most ridiculous rule ever! They "forget" to tell you this before you sign the contract, and then when you want different services they remind you of the $350. They charged us $350 for our wedding planner, photographer and flowers. I reccomend doing everything at the Royal except photographer, that's the one thing you don't want to skimp on. The photographer we used was La Luna and they are the best! Here is a link to our pictures - http://lalunaphotographers.com/blog/gallery/jonathan/weddings/ian-annie
Their DJ, DJ Doremix was awesome! That was an extra $950, but totally worth the cost. They kept the party going and had fun party supplies such as balloons, masks and glow bracelets and necklacces.
As for the hotel itself, the food is good, but it's very very salty. It's nice being all inclusive because our crew (66 people for the wedding) are huge partiers so alcohol being no cost was nice for our group. The service is great at the Royal and everyone that works there is absolutely so accomodating and friendly. Hopfully you won't be there when it rains because our room flooded and there was water streaming down the walls and an inch of water on the floor of our room. Everything is very clean and you don't have to worry about the water, there is bottled water in your room every day.
All in all our guests and family had the most amazing time and many said it was their best vacation ever. The Royal is so close to 5th avenue so that makes it great too because you don't have to stay at the resort the entire time. You can head down t 5th avenue and go to bars, lounges, restaurants, clubs, cafes and shoping. We had the best two weeks of our life and all the stress and poor communication in the beginning we forgot about wile we were there because the wedding and stay made up for it.
