Divi Aruba All Inclusive
We had our wedding at the Divi/Tamerijn All-Inclusive in July 2011 and spent the week before the wedding there. The resort was the perfect place for us to spend quality time with our guests and celebrate.
The default vibe is chill and relaxing. All room are on or close to the beach. The beach on this part of the island is wide. Because the Divi/Tamerijn properties occupy such a long stretch of beach, there is only 1 row of palapas (permanent, thatched beach "umbrellas"). When you are sitting under one, you have an unobscured view of the pristine white sand and turquoise water. And, regardless of the time of day, it's not too difficult to find a free beach chairs or a free palapa. The all-inclusive concept adds to the feeling of relaxation because you don't have to worry about spending on food, drinks, or activities.
However, there are also lots of fun activities for those who want some more excitement. The activities that are part of the all-inclusive offerings are volleyball, kayaking, snorkeling, wind surfing, rock wall, tennis, gym, bicycling, and activities run by the resort, such as yoga on the beach, pool volleyball, etc. At an additional cost, there's also a 9-hole golf course across the street, a casino across the parking lot, motorized water sports, and a spa.
Aesthetically, the resort is very pretty. The decor is simple and really displays the natural beauty of the island. I believe there have been renovations since the last review was written, so the rooms have improved. Though the rooms are not as modern or luxurious as the high rise resorts, they are perfectly comfortable, clean, and functional.
Other noteworthy things:
- There are many food options for lunch and dinner. The only option for breakfast is the buffet, which we found to be very good and have lot of variety. The a la cart dinner restaurants require reservations, and it is best to make them early. They resort allows you to make dinner reservations 2 days in advance. The only restaurant that we didn't like much was Ginger.
- Though the Divi and Tamerijn span a long stretch of the shoreline, maybe a mile, there are golf carts that circulate and will bring you where ever you ask.
- There's nightly entertainment, usually a traditional dance troop. Then the would almost always be a DJ near the bar. Depending on the crowd, it could be a very lively scene or not. The livelier nights were usually due to a larger group that was there all together.
- We has several reservation problems. There was obviously a disconnect between the travel agency's system and the resorts because both sides showered different information. The resort was able to get all of our guests with reservations problems into a room. Everyone we dealt with at the resort's front desk was very helpful except for one person. She seemed to be the exception.
As for weddings, since the resort is so spacious, you don't have to worry about multiple weddings. There was another wedding the same day as mine, and I didn't even know. Some of my guests had mentioned it to me. There are many pretty spots for the ceremony and the reception. Our ceremony was by the "pelican posts" in front of the Divi Winds Sports Center (gym). Then we walked across the street to the pool at the Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort (not part of the all-inclusive concept like the Divi and Tamerijn, but part of the same family of resorts). The resort was very accommodating for the various aspects of the wedding. The flowers were delivered to my room in a timely manner. A golf cart was provided to transport my bridesmaids and me. Though I didn't eat much at the reception because of nerves, I heard some really greats things about the food. Some guests said it was the best they had during their stay on the resort. Speaking of guests staying at the resort, we were able to obtain a highly favorable group rate for our guests by contacting the Divi's reservations office. We did a lot of research, and it really seemed to be the best value on the island. (Not necessarily inexpensive, but big bang for your buck).
