RIU Ocho Rios All Inclusive
We got married on May 28, 2011 with 30 guests. It was more beautiful than I could have pictured.
Arrival
We were delayed about 6 hours due to an air traffic controller strike in Jamaica. We finally arrived to Montego Bay. The ride from the airport to the resort was about an hr and 20 mins and we napped most of the way from being at the airport all day and night. We arrived at ROR and what a beautiful site as you enter the lobby. The view of the water through the lobby is spectacular! We booked a junior suite. The room was very nice. Clean and no problems. We arrived on Monday, May 23. We met with Keisha on Wed, May 25. Our meeting was about an hour. Went over all details, ordered all flowers and we were done! All our guests arrived within the next three days. One couple had an ant issue in their room. They very quickly changed their room and everything was perfect! We went down to the front desk the day before the wedding to see if there was an available room for Paul to spend the night before the wedding in so we didn't have to see each other and they actually upgraded us to a full suite! The suite was beautiful! We had it for the remainder of our trip.
Steel Drum Band
We originally brought our own music to play at the ceremony. We overheard the steel drum band for another wedding while we were at the pool and they were amazing! I went to Keisha's office to see if they were available on such short notice (two days) and one of the members of the band were in the office. They were available and knew our music so we booked! One side note.. We were quoted the price of the band as $490US. We remembered it not being so expensive. We had our netbook with us and pulled up the Riu site in the office and the site said $350 so they acknowledged that price on the website. The steel drum band is definitely worth the $..we would have paid the $490. You as the bride hear hardly none of it and don't pay attention really to what you do, but it definitely keeps the guests entertained and alot of them commented on them after of how much they really enjoyed it.
Salon
The salon did an amazing job! Myself and my bridal party got their hair done. They did an amazing job on all our hair. I had no idea going in of how I wanted it and I was beyond thrilled with how everyones turned out. I had purchased gift certificates for manicures and pedicures for all the girls in my wedding party and had made their appointments online. When I got to the resort I decided to stop in just to make sure everything was ok. They did not have record of an appointment for one of my girls for her nails and pedicure. I showed them a copy of the voucher they sent me after I reserved the appt and they fit her in. I would definitely recommend making appointments online before you go (they do require a 50% deposit when you book) to guarantee you have your appointment. They get really busy! Just make sure you have your vouchers printed to show your appointments were made. My mother in law went to make an appt when she got down there and they only appt they had was a 3PM and our wedding was 4PM....she cut it really close! Our nails turned out great, too!
Wedding
Our wedding was at the beach gazebo at 4PM. It had rained everyday at that time from the day we had gotten there. I was really worried, but luckily it was perfect weather the whole day! Michael came to my room about 3:30 and the flowers arrived at 3:45. There was an issue with the flowers. They forgot to send the flowers for all my girls, only my bouquet came. They ended up making bouquets from the garden for my girls..luckily the garden has the same flowers growing as my bouquet had. They did an amazing job compensating the flowers. We did run a little late due to the flower issue, about 15 minutes, but it was fine. The ceremony was perfect! I really couldn't have pictured anything more perfect! We waited to do our champagne toast til dinner. They did still provide rum punch at the beach after the ceremony which was really nice. We did pictures after the ceremony from about 4:30-6:30 then it was on to dinner.
Dinner
We had dinner at Mamee Bay. I had my Aunt and cousin set up the centerpieces and favors and placecards for us. It looked exactly how we wanted. The dinner was pretty private. There was a table towards the end of ours, but nothing that was disturbing at all. The dinner was really good! I am a vegetarian and they were able to get me a pasta and veggie plate that was really good. The waiters were great. We had three to help us. They were continually asking if there was anything we needed and were getting drinks for all our guests from the bar. They really did a great job!
We did our toast at the dinner instead of on the beach and it worked out well. We then did the cake cutting. The cake was really good! We didn't upgrade the cake and we actually had the top tier left that we brought back to our room and had a piece the next day.
Reception
We rented out the disco from 9PM-11PM. We brought some of our own music on cds and left about a half hour for the DJ to play whatever he wanted. He announced us in, we did our first dance, father/bride and mother/son dance. It was bigger than I thought and worked out well for the 30 people we had.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. There honestly isn't a thing I would change. The resort is beautiful! My family is actually planning a trip back next summer since they all had such a great time. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] if there is any information you need or pictures you would like to see.
