Pros: Modern, Picturesque, Lagoon
Cons: On lagoon, not the beach

Villa Gauguin is a fairly new property located along Yal Ku Lagoon in Akumal.   I do not believe the owner, Dominique, currently accepts weddings or receptions at this location, but he was happy to have our wedding party stay there, bringing us special treats and champagne on the wedding day.  We also had several parties staged at this residence the week of the wedding, including the "getting ready" accomodations the day of the wedding.

The official sites for the property reflect the basic accomodations: five bedrooms, two entertaining rooms, a large dining room and kitchen, and backyard with infinity pool.  The descriptions do not do this place justice so I've included some photographs taken by delSol Photography during our wedding preparation.  It is simply AMAZING.  The entire wall facing the lagoon is simply a wall of windows from the bottom of the first floor to the top of the second floor.  Every room has A/C controls (key!), and the entertainment rooms are spacious and trendy.   The upstairs room has a flatscreen television and a _very loud_ speaker system.

The bedrooms are no joke.  The master suite takes up half of the lagoon-side upstairs.  There are two full walls of windows overlooking the lagoon and ocean and you have a private deck to enjoy the air and sound of the ocean.  I can tell you that the night sky from this vantage is amazing ;)  The master has an adjoining master bathroom with a huge walk-in closet ... just in case you bring two truckloads of cloths with you on vacation.   Three of the other guestbedrooms are also located upstairs and each has its own bathroom.  Two of those bedrooms overlook the lagoon/ocean (they take up the other half of the "lagoon" side of the residence upstairs).  The third overlooks the garden, which is very pretty.  The last bedroom is located downstairs and it does not have its own adjoining bathroom.  The room is also fairly small, but certainly serviceable.   For our wedding party, the rooms were first-come and the first-floor room went last.

Francesco and his wife are the caretakers of the property and clean it daily.  They live on site through a separate entrance to a basement home on the property.  They are available for any number of mishaps and are so very accomodating and friendly.  They also double as private chefs should you choose to hire them!  We hired them for one special evening the day after our wedding and the food was de.lish!  Dominique, the owner, provides you with a menu from which you may choose and then they buy the food, prepare it in the kitchen, and serve it to you and your guests.  It was a very cool experience.
