Ladies, so I went down to MP Riviera Maya to check out the resort for our Nov 2011 wedding. We are having a traditional Indian wedding, so we were looking for some very specific things. I've included my overall resort notes below with a bunch of pictures (sorry in advance for the super long post!) -- my next post will be about the ceremony/reception sites we looked at. First of all, we had no trouble booking our transfer to the hotel (for free) on their website and finding the drivers at the Cancun airport. We stayed at MP Sunrise; the lobby was beautiful!

Everyone was so nice when we checked in, but we were annoyed that everyone has to wear wristbands (anyone going for the wedding will have a white one)! The work around for pics is that you can cut off your wristband, hold on to it, and then take it back to the lobby to trade it in for a new one when you're ready. They told us that we'd have trouble getting food/drinks anywhere in the resort without the bands... annoying, but workable. We're actually going to see if they'd let us wear them on our ankles while we're there so we don't have to worry about it too much and cause the inconvenience for our guests...

We ended up staying in a Superior Deluxe room (the cheaper ones were sold out already). The rooms were really nice -- marble floors, granite counter tops, really big glass shower, jacuzzi for two, balcony w/ a hammock, liquor mini bar... you can definitely tell the resort was built 10+ years ago, but it's still really nice and well maintained.  Also, as an FYI, there is free wi-fi and free calling to the US & Canada all over the resort. And the safe in each room is pretty big (I was able to fit my 15" laptop, wallets, cell phones, passports, jewelry boxes, etc.). Note too that there were NOT iPod hookups in every room; we didn't have one... The doors are also pretty thin so you could hear people talking in the hallways, but it wasn't too bad.

We walked around the resort and noticed that the pools aren't heated, nor are there any hot tubs outside. They said the only hot tubs are in the rooms... The beach was awesome! The sand is white and powdery soft (not rocky at all), and the water is very blue with pockets of turqouise, so pretty!

The pools in Sunrise were HUGE! And there was a lot of stuff to do around/in them (i.e. ping pong in the pool, volleyball, etc). They also had a ton of entertainment, music and of course, the swim up bars -- or you could go over to the Nizuc pool which was still nice with a swim up bar, but much quieter.

There were some fun bars. The pool bars of course are always fun, but there's also this cute bar, called Columpios Bar (or Swing Bar) by the pool area; it's very cute and played hip-hop Top 40 music most of the time... The disco was also very fun, played a lot of fan favorite music and stays open until 3am, so we'll likely head there after our reception for the after party!

Lastly, the food. The food was pretty average (as it is in most all-inclusive resorts). However, please keep in mind that we are vegetarian, so we did not try any of the meats... Other people have said the food's really good! Being vegetarian (and knowing that 75% of our guests are vegetarian) we were looking for options and found some good ones, but it wasn't the best food I've ever had in my life. The breakfast at El Gondola in the Sunrise Lobby was GREAT -- tons of options! Many of the lunch places were very average, but there is a brick-oven pizza spot right by the pool area which was very good as well. For dinner, we took a golf cart over to taste Bambu and La Trattoria in the Golf section. Both of those restaurants were pretty good... here are some pics of the different places.
